how do you take on tracking and kerning in revival cases?

Fantastic question! The answer is that it depends. I know some folks prefer to space only so that using the digital typeface mimics when it was used in metal or wood (when kerning wasn't an option there). Others prefer to modernize it and kern pairs as needed-and that's the route I took. As far as tracking goes, I think most people try to get it as close as possible to the original specimen, especially if you can find letter pairings that wouldn't typically require kerning.
