I’ve once seen someone theorize that “your choices don’t matter” is to Deltarune as “Kill Or be killed” is to Undertale. True, the game is confirmed to only have one ending, but there could be multiple ways to get to that ending. Your choices do still matter, even in this alternate world. Also IIRC Toby once said the ending will be based off a fever dream he once had so…chances are that it’s gonna be wild as hell.

I think it was still pretty popular; there was a lot of fan-art and such when it dropped, especially of the playable characters. Also the memes, like "Kris, where are we?" Though I also think it wasn't as "loud" as Undertale probably because of that reason in and of itself. Undertale was EVERYWHERE on the internet for a while; fan art, videos, fan animations, etc. So that could have also induced burnout of the IPs and people wanting a break.

When Undertale released, you couldn’t escape it, even I knew all the characters names, and even saw the Asriel fight. Was basically spoiled on it. When Deltarune released, It barely crossed my mind that it’d even be related to Undertale, and just thought it was something else, untill 2020, when i was bored one day, and decided to download whatever was free on the Switch eShop, and saw Deltarune. I played it, and since then, I’ve played all routes of Undertale, played Chapter 2 of Deltarune, played Undertale Yellow and a bunch of other Undertale and Deltarune fangames, and am currently patiently waiting for Chapter 3 and 4 of Deltarune.
