Really fun fact: In chapter 1 and chapter 2, on noelle's father hospital room, there is a little angel made by noelle and dess, and when you interact with it, it says "The lack of facial features is unsetling", i speculate that it had to do with the vessel (who also doesn't have any facial features) and was created by the PLAYER, once again creating a connection to the player and a angel

What I love about Deltarune's story and this video is that it isn't focused on lore implications, but the message. More 4th wall breaking games need to realize that shocking the player that "this is a game in a game in a game..." isn't enough for a story. It can be a really creative and versatile tool for more interesting stories, but it won't have weight. Yes, the implementation is usually really interesting, but a message is an integral part to stories.

I think susie is the key. Everyone else is susceptible to the players commands but susie is the only one that can refuse the player through rebellion so her role may be as important as noelle who is the lost lamb. Noelle is most susceptible and susie is the least making her the breaking point for us.

One detail about the snow grave route: Birdly is really dead. After awaking in the light world, not only does Birdly just seem cold and lifeless, when you investigate the library's side room, it's told us the player it's somewhat the perfect hidding spot for Birdly 's body.

here's my theory on why kris opens a dark fountain: so he clearly slashed toriels tires after leaving the window, which caused her to call the police, he left the door open, and turned on the TV. this all connects to 1 thing, kris did this intentionally as a lure, to get undyne to enter the dark world, so she actually believes it's real.

I have a feeling that starting with Chapter 2, there will be more options and choices opening up to the player via secret routes. We will break out of the initial "your choices don't matter" thing in chapter 1, bathe in our freedom, and then feel extremely terrible about what our freedom has done to the characters and their lives.

And that's what both worries me and fascinates me the most about Deltarune. Even on a normal route, everything is still revolving around us, the player. We've been shown that Kris actually cares a lot about their friends. But, in the end, they're not Kris' friends. They're OUR friends. We've managed to get them to like Kris, and we know that Kris has been somehow ignored their whole life. Our choices made Kris likeable, as sad as that is. Even if Kris despises the player, do they really want to get rid of us? Kris knows pretty well their friends like them because of the player, except for maybe Noelle. So is Kris really interested in separating from us? Great theory btw, I was starting to miss your Undertale/ Deltarune theories.

A few things that might be relevant to deltarune in the future: the files save some really bizarre information, like how many enemies you spared, pacified, froze, killed with fatal damage(fatal damage means they actually die, if you abort snowgrave at the berdly fight you can use snowgrave on 3 maus in the cheese maze which gives a special animation for fatal damage), and forced to flee. I think I remember hearing that it saves the vessel you create, but take that with a grain of salt.

As a small point of nuance, i think playing the "normal" route is relinquishing freedom. While yes we do make decisions, like where to walk and such, we arent controlling the characters so much as guiding the journey. The snowgrave+ whatever else in future chapters is forcing control, whereas the normal route is relinquishing it.

Something I think adds on to this is after fighting Spamton in the normal fight against him, Ralsei asks Kris if he's alright. Saying he's fine has Ralsei ask why Kris is struggling to say "I'm Fine" but saying he isn't fine has Ralsei ask why Kris is screaming.

Something I noticed about this is that there are options that Kris seems to prefer over the other, like in chapter 1 where Susie asks us to fight and the SOUL moves to the “let’s not” option for a split second even without player input, and the reactions of Susie and Ralsei to the different pose options in the acid lake ride with Kris’s “rude gesture” being described as more confident. I think the final ending we get in deltarune changes based on if we choose Kris’s options or our own.

I personally think that the ending of Snowgrave isn’t different because we (the player) are slowly freeing ourself from the game’s constraints. We’re proving more and more that are choice do matter and it will start to have much bigger consequences than 1 or 2 dead characters by the end if we continue to choose the path of violence in chapters 3 and beyond.

This may be already happening with Ralsei as when Ralsei wonders what Suzie might be up to and our perspective shifts to watch her when we get back to Kris and Ralsei it looks like they just wrapped up a conversation but nothing comes of it. What i really love besides Matt doing a deltarune theory is how much the player is like Asriel in Undertale. After being bored from doing a choice we will change and go for a more evil route for more content, and to see more just loke how Asriel as flowey killed and talked differently for different outcomes. Like how a player wouldn't do the same thing over and over and instead opting for a different outcome for more content.

Also, another thing he didn’t mention that I noticed is that Ralsei’s story says “seal the fountains and banish the angel’s heavens” This is shown where Kris, Susie and Rasei first seals the dark fountain and then the important part comes along. Kris takes out his soul and “Banishes” it somewhere. In chapter 1, it was the cage and in chapter 2, it was the sink cabinet and the couch. Ps: Love that detail where for which chapter you are in, it happens twice, sealing the fountain in Neutral and Snowgrave “They are different because Spamton shows up at the portal in Snowgrave” and Kris banishes you, the soul in two spots instead of one.

I think it’s more likely that the Angel is the voice from the start of the game and the player is something they sent to the world. Maybe they’re a mediator between the real world and the deltarune world. That way I think the ending where you fight for the freedom of the characters is more likely to end in a fight against the Angel. They’re also likely the one who made spamton the way he is and would explain why he is aware of the player
