professor skye - first of all, big fan, i love what you do. second - these songs were 100% pre-recorded during the Quaranta sessions taking place around 2020-2021. there are snippets floating around from way back then where both of these songs (vocally and lyrically, at least) are pretty much 100% finished. the only thing that changed is some of the details on the production side of things, and the mixing / mastering on Keep It to Me. i don’t know how aware you are with the whole situation with Warp Records releasing Quaranta, but they shelved it, for years. it was looking like we were never going to get it, and when we finally did, these two songs were missing (most likely to reflect Danny’s new sober mindset, like you said). Keep It to Me was replaced by Shakedown (which was also a track that was recorded in 2020, proven due to a livestream where he premiered it around that time), and Bass Jam replaced a very ugly and depressing track called “Numbers” that originally was going to end off the album. the truth is, especially watching Danny’s podcast as of late, i really think Danny is sober for good. at least he seems like it to me. he is seeming sharper than ever before, and really isn’t giving off the impression that he has any intention to relapse, even with going on tour and everything else that he’s been working on lately. i know relapses can be spontaneous, but i really do have hope with him going on several tours and staying clean thus far. this is coming from a long time fan. hope this context helps a little bit! ps. there are two other tracks (both are fucking hilarious) left on the cutting room floor of Quaranta that ended up on TV62 by Bruiser Brigade. they are called “Welfare” and “Dylon”. i highly recommend giving them both a listen and seeing what you think, i also think they recontextualize the album a bit, since it sounds like Quaranta was going to be more of a XXX type of tracklist, half of the tracks being hilarious and half of them being very dark. obviously leaning more towards the dark side of things. AVAA

Idk about cheaters but Keep It To Me is definitely an older song. I heard it a few years back. Danny played some REALLY dark tracks on Twitch a few years ago that never made the album

cheaters is old too, i have a friend who sent me a snippet of that song years ago. that track never really hit the internet like Keep It to Me though.

@@alexanderanahata4496ah okay. I’m not surprised he left some of the tracks he previewed on Twitch off the album. Was lowkey almost uncomfortable listening to them because they were so personal

AVAA! 6:01 I don’t think drugs are the most destructive force in hip hop though. People don’t like when you use this word, but, it’s Patriarchy. Our interpretation of who we must be as men in order to survive is what kills us. Just in my own opinion, as someone who has both struggled with addiction and lost friends to it. I believe masculinity and our allegiance to certain kinds of masculine expression is what drives most violence. I see addiction as a kind of slow self directed violence. Trying to “be a man” ironically gets a lot of men killed. Love your analysis on all these videos by the way, I just normally have no idea what to comment

He said very early on he messed up with his advance money, you may not be able to find the interview but I remember him explaining that he had no idea he was on the hook for producers and additional creatives associated with his content and he probably doesn't want to be stuck in this deal anymore.

Avaa. Deluxe editions aren’t a cash grab, bc for most artists there is no cash in streaming. It’s part of the way things are rolled out now bc of how music is consumed by us. Singles drop, then the album then later on the deluxe. This is bc most albums only chart for a week or two after release, if at all. Repackaging and re releasing it with new material increases the total streams but it also increases the length of time spent charting which are all metrics their labels will consider when deciding whether or not to release any future projects. Fwiw all of this could be wrong but it makes sense to me.

20:45 Aww mannn I gotta disagree again. All love but gotta understand harm reduction if we’re talking about addiction. There’s a ton of evidence that medical cannabis can help recovering addicts stay off of opioids. Plus I’m from California! New York may be new to it but we’re true to it. Also, a lot of people with disabilities or cancer patients get a ton of benefits from using weed
