As a Christian who enjoys the show, it’s obvious Danny is not lampooning Christianity and that’s intentional. Rarely are the congregation even referenced, it just focuses on the madness and hilarity of the gemstone family.

I do find it funny that the messages he puts in can be used to imprint the lessons of Christianity to the troglodyte atheist "hur hur christianity bad" crowd who latched onto the show.

@@heathmcrigsby I think this is an underrated aspect of the show. When you break down the stories being told and the messages imparted, it's all parables. It honestly probably is one of the best pieces of Christian media in decades

I loved in the first season finale they play Eli’s sermon on family and love over Jesse going to find Gideon. It’s such a beautiful scene. I dare anyone to say the show mocks Christianity in the slightest.

The Christianity and megachurch aspect are more of a backdrop/tapestry for the madness that is the plot and family. True christians should be able to watch and laugh

As a christian i friggin love this series Theres a certain level of self awareness in some of the areas of every belief system that needs to be realized. And i assure you the vast majority of Christians can take a joke and can even have fun poking fun at themselves and others in the community at all different levels. This series brilliantly walks the line between parody, heartfelt family moments, shocking family drama and all of it within the vein of the christian experience. Its brilliant and a huge hit in my christian family. I would wager thats the same with most of us. Its a great series. Probably McBrides best show imho

I completely love the show and I'm a preacher and an evangelist I adore Jesus Christ and this show is friggin hilarious my wife watch it after our daughter goes to bed I think it's fantastic comedic genius I mean Danny McBride is a phenom when it comes to comedy and he really put something out there that is hilarious and knocks the edge off religion like if anything it makes the outside world see that Christians are human and struggle with real world shit

Although its Christian based, I do believe that a true christian would not watch that due to the insults portrayed and also the naked scenes e.g the sex and drugs tape from season one. I only watched one episode and then I regreted it. We must learn to live holy lives , and keep our consciences clean and led by God's Spirit.

I honestly didn't care to ever watch the show because I consider myself Christian. But I gave it a shot. It's not for everyone, it's got some really crazy stuff going on, but it never comes off as making fun of Christians. To me it's making fun of and pointing out the hypocrisy of Mega Churches and the people that run them. I really appreciate that it never makes fun of the beliefs, or the congregation.

As a writer, this show is genius and well-written! As a Christian, it's not surprising to see hypocrites and degenerates in the church. But it's also not something I wanna keep seeing. It's not something I want to go unsolved. I can't stomach this for more than a season. My curiosity is satiated, and the peek into the mega-church lifestyle is interesting, but I know for sure I can't take any value beyond that.

This comment helps me alot I didn't want to watch it because I thought it was blasphemous. But your right most mega churches are out to get rich, I'd say less than 20% are true believers in Jesus Christ.
