John Beaudin has been in major market radio (Edmonton, Vancouver & Calgary) for 35 years and a music journalist since 1989. He graduated from Broadcasting school as a newsman so he would have the skills to write about the artists that inspired him since he bought his first Elton John album as a teen. In the '80s Beaudin was the host of the syndicated radio show ‚”The Cross Canada Report‚” which had two versions (Rock and A/C). Beaudin was also asked to be a judge at the Juno Awards (Canada's answer to the Grammys) Twice. He has anchored every position in radio including morning and afternoon drive and was a Program and Music Director for The Breeze and California 103 in Calgary. He currently hosts the popular Lovesongs at QM-FM in Vancouver and on iHeartRadio.

I promoted several of Danny O'Keefe's first few albums on Atlantic Records and they were so intellectually written and extremely well produced that most astute music lovers began tuning-in to his work and began following this pied-piper of songwriting genius.

O'Keefe's songs are addictive melancholy. They are often sad (The Drover, Goodtime Charlie, Magdalena, Just Jones, The Road), but you can't help to go back for another listening.

Perhaps one of the most underrated American songwriters of the '70s. He never achieved the commercial success his peers, e.g. Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, et al , but at the same time, he never became a top 40 commodity.😉

There are two measures of whether or not a song is good. One is time. If they are playing your song at least 50 years after you released it you it has something worthwhile in its DNA. The other is the number of covers done by others. Danny is a one hit wonder to most Americans, but in terms of covers he's a one man Brill Building. His stuff has been covered by: Elvis, Gary Stewart, Jackson Browne, Judy Collins, Sheena Easton, The Cowsills, Andy Williams, Cab Calloway, Leon Russell, etc. What really shows Danny's talent is when other songwriters like Jackson Browne and Judy Collins cover your tunes.

I like his songs. But it seems like hes tired of talking about his work. I dont know if hes frustrated with what he is writing now or maybe hes in a block... Of course, maybe I am completely wrong.

Never like Jacksons version. Dannys original version was the one I learned. that album of his, not sure if it was his first one is the best, not a bum cut on the whole record. I saw him at the Paramount in Portland Oregon, did a solo set opening for Procol Harum if you can believe that. He was captivating.
