Fun story: i was in first row of a hives gig and caught one of his picks after he threw a bunch of them into the crowd. Never even knew his name. I just called him the "Super Mario looking bass player", whenever the hives came up in a conversation. Solid player though, put on a great show. They all were.

I played bass in a function band for a short while and Hate To Say I Told You So was a staple on the setlist, for one reason alone. I used the song to let off some steam after playing shite crowd pleasers for a bunch of drunks. Out comes the pick, the ProCo RAT gets deployed and those four iconic notes get downstroked to oblivion!

One thing for you guys watching this to note, a big part of Matt's tone comes from the fact that the Walk Idiot Walk riff (and almost all of his riffs) are all downpicked, Dee Dee Ramone style. Danny doesn't do it here, but this lick has no upstrokes at all. It sounds a lot meaner and more aggressive while also being more consistent.
