This is the craziest streetluge race ever! The "Red Bull Streets of San Francisco" was held from 2000 to 2002 (this is the 3rd and last race).

As a kid growing up in San Francisco in the 1960s, we used to make what we called coasters. Basically is was a piece of wood with ball bearing wheels. Brakes were sometimes attached made out of old shoe soles to skid on the street. We would ride them down the 17th street hill. I think that's where this was. But we didn't have hay bales and police to look out for us. It was a blast. Come to think of it, I'm lucky I'm still alive.

I didn't do this but crazy things like it (Colorado equivalent stuff) and yeah, It's hard to believe most of us made it to middle age. Like my dad says, "If I would've known I'd live this long I would have taken better care of myself!" LOL

I lived in San Francisco in the 60's and did the exact same thing. Used to attach the ball bearings wheel into carved wood pegs expanded with nails to hold em. Had a rope for steering.

One of the finalists, Andy Lally, is an accomplished race car driver with major wins and titles all over the world. I had to double check to see that it's actually the same guy. I've been watching him race for years.

This type of luge was started back in the late 70's by a person named Guy Grundy. an employee of Infinity Surfboards in Huntington Beach, CA. He set some records at the time, kicked downhill speed boarding into gear, but I don't know what he has been doing since.

Lol bring um back then, nothing's stopping you. I relive those days about every 10 years or so. Every ten years or so I have serious medical issues oddly enough. Broken arm/wrist then broken leg/ankle high ankle sprain and some botched surgury....fun stuff made me walk all funny. But that's how I want my life to me, roughly... full of adventures. Why sit and worry about the possiblity of something happening. It's that way every day for an infant. Just take caution and be confident. You'll be alright, just remember to roll with it when it goes down. Love peace..chicken greaaassseee
