Thanks for Part 2. It was just as interesting as Part 1. I bought some takeaway dim sum items in Chinatown L.A. on Friday. The har gow dough was stiff and cold, but the shu mai was tasty. The egg tart and sesame ball were the best items that I purchased. I went to the dim sum shop at 2:30PM. Earlier is always better. Since I don't speak Chinese, I try to order the items that I know, in the dim sum restaurant. I ate the soy wrapped item once before. Now I know what they use the soy bean wrapper for. I usually cook the soy bean stick.

Dim sum is traditionally served early morning in southern China. In our place, 9:30 am till mid afternoon. Mostly Cantonese restaurants offer dimsum and some even during dinner (from the menu).

I actually like my Har How and Siu Mai dipped in the rice roll ( cherng fun) sweet soy. The Siu Mai definitely looks better today. I wonder if the sourness from the cherng fun has to do with the filling going bad? The prices are much cheaper than in Boston. I'm shocked 😱

Hahahaha, the world saw you pocket the soy sauce! My momma always took sweet n low packets and whatever else could sneak out. She took the mustard and catsup single bottles from room service at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco...she was raised during the Depression and felt it was paid for in the meal.

🎶 Lee Kum Kee 🎶 Yes, I think the ‘mild shrimp taste would be from less fresh quality shrimp 🤔.... ‘Phoenix Claw’ 😂 We love them (yes, quality of preparation matters alot) . My Papa’s favorite was Chicken Butt, she loved the fatness of it. I always thought the head was just for decoration, ... u eat it 😯? ... 😮 Not the good Sauce! I love THAT sauce, its special to that dish but i use it for all the other dishes teehee ... Wow, look at the FÛN .... 10:05 - haha omg, so, now that i live further up in northern va, getting closer to DC, there are a lot of asian stores and restaurants and that is where i saw raw chicken feet for the first time. and yes, they look like a very old person’s hand and it has fingernails. its freaky, i agree. lol

I usually do straight to the point. It depends on how society is around you, in places where there is nothing going on, you can dance around your point all you want, what else ppl gotta do? but in a real situation, where things matter and time is precious, to the point is the best... no wasting anyones time.

I grew up on LKK oyster sauce. Definitely was all in on the har gow wrappers until I learned to appreciate the shrimp inside as well. Used to always get the chicken feet for dim sum. Nowadays I don't bother ordering them. I don't dislike them, but I've grown indifferent. Sauces, I like having sriracha and chili oil. And the seasoned soy sauce they use for the cheng fun. Speaking of cheng fun, I don't think the cart lady cares one bit about spilling the soy sauce. And I gotta say... I expected more of a markup since the restaurant is at a hotel/casino. Still a little pricey, but not as bad as I'd feared.

I never knew LKK was a big brand other than Oyster sauce. Hmmm...I've never seen their soy sauce packaged. Seems like it took a lot longer to get all the dishes you wanted this second time. I guess I'll be skipping the shrimp wrapped in rice noodles at this place. Thanks for confirming.

@@dannythemedic Jasmine tea is not tea lol. Bo lay is good but next time ask for goon yum(guan yi). It's an oolong and it's delicious. Sau mei is also delicious. My whole life we always ordered bo lay but in the last few years we discovered those 2 I mentioned and are our new regulars.

Regarding dim sum condiments: I am partial to the side-by-side dish of spicy mustard and red ketchup-like sauce that dim sum houses in my area offer. It's served automatically without asking. I'm not sure if this practice is widespread or perhaps old-fashioned, but with dim sum, I prefer it over soy sauce and chilli oil. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Yes! Here in Vancouver that's quite common. The red sauce is a mild hot sauce, not sweet like ketchup at all. I love smearing my har gow with the mustard sauce and then dipping it into soya sauce!

Over here in Aotearoa NZ, something called Prawn Toast is served up at Dim Sum restaurants and they are my favourite menu item. Just wondered if they are authentic Cantonese Dim Sum? Cheers Danny!
