Great impersonation of my mother in law spitting out the bones - next time start picking apart the head with your hands for morsels of meat. I do like the crunchy fins when fried whole, they are like kettle cooked potato chips. beef stew in clay pot is just part of stomach muscles near diaphragm with some tendon - soul food. As always, another excellent video. I especially loved the Chinese New Year drums. When you told us the story of your mother eating fish and being able to discard the bones from one side of her mouth. I was also very interested when you told us about jade and the bracelets the are worn to wort of evil spirits. I will miss Tung very much. I hope to see him back soon. Thank you so much Danny for sharing this video with us. You are the best!

Funny video about Chinese meals with fish, bones, and gut. My mom was a nurse in the Emergency Room in Hong Kong and did not serve fish with bones at home. She has seen too many emergency cases with kids with bones stuck inside their throat. So now we prefer boneless fish, too! Love these videos with Steve and Tung.

I like fish with bones. So did my father who passed away at age 94. So now when I eat fish with bones, I think of him. For us children he would lift the fish from the bones, piece by piece, and put it on our plates. He did not trust us to do it right. That we might end up choking on a fish bone.

Lol, the $7.88 is the lunch specials! This usually means rice plates or some kind of noodles. I'm guessing the word you're looking at is 午 and NOT 牛. Prices aren't bad at all considering inflation. In the Bay Area, a typical dry beef chow fun is about $16-18 before tax and tip.

DTM, you should use either MS Translate or Google Translate app to translate the menu or the Chinese newspaper add. With either app opened, you simply aim the camera on to the image and the app will overlay the translated words on top of the characters. It’s not perfect, but you can understand most of it. Give it shot. You will need your use another device to record, unless you have another phone that you can run the app on.

Wow! I haven't not heard Toisan in a long time! Impressive that you speak a little Toisan and Cantonese. That fish that they served you, normally you can eat the fins because they are deep fried so much. Steve is correct when he said "you can eat the bones". The guts looked like beef stew with tendons. Tendon almost like chicken feet. The food looked great! I hope Tung is back home safe. He's get a lot of women fans because of you.

@@mistergrendel32 Generally Mandarin is the language of China. But, different dialects are spoken. Same Chinese characters, but, different pronounciation. Cantonese is spoken in the south and where most early immigrants (pre-1980's) came from. Think of it like English. You have proper English. Then you have Hawaiian Pidgin English, Ebonics, Cajun English, etc. Not a good example. I hope you get what I mean.

Amazing that the Chinese businesses and the community at large in LV are welcome to freely print and erect signage in their own language without criticism yet my hometown of Vancouver BC displayed such resentment and hostility towards the same actions. More confounding ( in regards to the previous statement), is the US has a very strong sense of National Identity whereas Canada is strongly promoted as Multicultural. I am now contemplating following DTM in relocating to LV, NV!

My grandmother who came over from the Old Country (Italy) when she was still in her teens made lots of Italian-style internal organ dishes for my Dad who loved them! She learned to make them because when she was growing up in Italy in the late 1800s her family was very poor. The cheapest meats you could buy were those internal organs. Italians, though, are clever with spices and seasonings and more -- we invented pizza after all -- so, according to my Dad, what my grandmother made with disgusting-sounding parts of animals, was delicious! Personally, like you, I didn't care much about what the stuff tasted like. Once I knew what it was.... once I knew what part of the cow, pig, sheep, chicken, or goat it came from, that's all I needed to know to say, "No thanks, Grandma. Looks good but I'm going with my friends for burgers" or something to that effect. 😁

Seeing the New Year procession reminded me. I'm coming to NYNY for St Patrick's Day weekend and they normally have a bagpipe and drum corps march around and through the casino on that afternoon, passing out green bead necklaces to people in the casino. The NHL Golden Knights are also playing a home game on that day so they should also have the cheerleader and drum procession coming through the casino, too.
