Happy New Year! Here's a walkthrough of how to set up a Half Marathon training plan using Garmin Connect (also works for 5k and 10k plans)

Why did you pick the coach option rather than add an event into your calendar and allow the plan to be created via suggested workouts and the event widget?

Cool this is interesting. I used this for my first ever half marathon back in the covid days , (I picked Greg at the time ). I will enjoy your take on the training and will reach out when your done so we can swap notes . Enjoy!

That may have been around the time I did my first HM training plan actually. I’ll do regular updates on the channel, but perhaps not weekly to begin with as not a lot to report from a handful of runs!

Enjoy the training. Those 9 minute benchmark runs seem like such a faff. It's hardly worth putting your shoes on for a 9 minute run 😅

Well, it IS supposed to be running his absolute max effort for 9 min in order for Garmin to establish a benchmark, so logically he should do at least 20min warm up and 20min easy recovery after!!! Oldmanrunner calls them gut busters!!😂

I'm VERY interested in this experiment Dan, I guess you've faithfully followed Garmin plans before have you, with positive results?? Mark G is faithfully following his Garmin too. Me I simply entered my races in the calendar and my suggestions, like yours too, seemed to start off with way too much rest ... why 2 days rest after a 9min benchmark run, it doesn't make sense to me!!🤷🏻‍♀ Well I ignored that anyway! Are you doing regular strength training too Dan?

Indeed, it will be an experiment and one to explore for 2024. I know I could just do my own thing and hit the start line ready to give it a go, but I thought I’d try the training plan to give me some structure. I’ll be adding in extra runs as it is, but I’ll see how things develop throughout the process. I’m rubbish at strength training to be honest!

@@DanRuns OHH that's a pity, especially considering your injury history!! I'm sure it's how I've stayed totally injury free for well over a year now despite almost doubling my volume and distances!! Even just one or two kettle bells at home and a resistance band would have you covered!! Just saying'!! But most importantly, ENJOY Dan!!!

@@bev9708 I’d say there are 2 rest days because he picked a 3 day a week plan? I guess if you choose a 4 or 5 day plan that wouldn’t be the case?
