Busta leaving the group was not the disaster that people are making it out to be! It was inevitable, but what really killed LONS was the "Shift" to more "Street and Hardcore" Hip Hop! They got phased out like a lot of groups did from the late 80's and early 90's! Battle's with Labels and "Bad Contracts" also sealed the demise of a lot of groups! Charlie, Dinco, and Milo were good enough to succeed without Busta, but just couldn't adapt to the change of style in Hip Hop and succumbed to groups like Mobb Deep! EPMD/Das EFX and many others also were phased out!! The Industry is ruthless. Just my opinion.
@Diggy22Ай бұрын
@@gregorywesley7456 I disagree. The T.I.M.E. album would have easily held its own if L.O.N.S. could have gelled as a group. Busta was already moving away from working with the Leaders. He was spending more time with ATCQ, getting feature with Heavy D and Biggie, and starting Flipmode Entertainment at the same time. Busta brought Rampage on board the T.I.M.E. album and got him on the "Flava In Ya Ear" remix right after. Tribe excelled with Midnight Marauders, and L.O.N.S. were in the same vein. If C. Brown wasn't beefing with Busta, that crew could have done big things.

nice convo! But, 2nd album ...wack? hmmm ..i always thought their second album was totally slept on and actually a bold direction, sonically, for that time. "Whats Next" is a classic track, the most pop friendly but great, and alot of the album's beats seem more on the experimental (futuristic sounding, perhaps not as commercially viable, not bad, certainly not wack) and underground b-boy side of things. You can't really tell they're breaking up on the album, though perhaps some of their flows may have seemed a little disjointed, like they made the album in a cipher and pressed record, but looking back that type of live sounding, unpolished take is nice to hear. And Charlie Brown was total showman in his own right, essential to the combo of the Cacka lacki whammy bars delivered on Scenario. Great to hear the backstory though! props for the interview as it brought me back.✊
