Michael Lucero my brother showed me a clip of Busta as he did with so many young artists he worked with and I remember him telling me Busta was magical in front of the camera and through the lens. We talked about different camera angles and shots that would highlight his amazing energy and animated movements. Michael was amazing and I miss him dearly. He helped so many young artists with their start and first videos. I have often wondered if people who worked with him remember him. This was really nice to hear. Sometimes I wish I could talked to them and just ask question about my brother and their journey in this time. I still have some raw footage of some of these shoots. Thanks for this post!

I just listened to T.I.M.E for the first time the other this past Sat & Sun. And listened to Buju Banton's "Voice Of Jamaica" Which Busta has Executive Prod creds on for the first time in that same week. It's crazy to think what he had accomplished so early in his career, and how he hasn't slowed down even today. I heard Bust mentioned as one of those rappers that's gotten away without saying alot, or is a flow master, but not much else. Those L.O.N.S albums and even him as a person have proven to me that ppl often just paint you with the brush that's in reach, and not the one that actually brings who you are as an individual and a human to life. Thanks for sharing this information, it means alot to us that tend to experience this time period after spending hrs & years digging for it, and/or through are loved ones who were there and lived it.

I once saw Charlie Brown walking holding a box of pizza in Uniondale, NY around the time when Busta was first making big time money records. Sad. No car, just walked to the pizzeria and I'm assuming back home. Busta is a poser, he went to the same junior high & high school I went to in Uniondale (Turtle Hook & Uniondale High School). It's written on the back of the first song's vinyl cover. The first few videos were filmed in Uniondale. Busta's family lived on Birch Street in Uniondale until he got signed and maybe graduated, but his parents eventually sold the house to my friends parents. His younger brother Paul was like the black sheep of the family cause he was left behind to continue living in Uniondale and going to Uniondale High School. Paul lived a normal life while his brother was a star. Sad shit. Last time I saw Paul was at a small bar in Baldwin, Ny in 2012 sitting in the booth behind me drinking with some woman. Obviously he wasn't rich, he was just another local guy spending a few bucks on a regular weekend. Why doesn't Busta ever mention Paul?

You know what I notice about both Busta Rhymes and ODB? They were so easily marketable. It's no wonder music A&R would be pushing them to go solo. There was a RZA quote from back in 96-97 somewhere around there, he said "other rappers can't fuck with ODB, he'll beat you on style alone..." After watching this little clip I flashbacked to that famous friendly batlle between Dirty and Busta back in the early 90's. It all makes sense man, the early and mid 90's were about the solo rapper and the late 90's were all about those rappers building label "crews." He could have brought them back LOTNS with Flip Mode Squad, but im sure there's underlying reasons why.

LONS was a hip hop -pilot group that was a like a lot of hip hop coming of age groups and artists at that time. They were the offspring of the likes of ATCQ Jungle Brothers, De La just to name a few. From their very first appearance and song “Case of the PTA,” you could easily hear that Busta was the most talented lyricist. His unique rambunctious wordplay -rhyme style, delivery and voice to a C Brown’s more chaotic-choppy with lil screams here and there that appeared a bit disjointed and out of sync at times was unequal and unmatched in energy to Bustas. And while Dinco D’s style was more mellowed and smooth flowing, he and C Brown’s lyrics had no major sustenance that made their rhymes enjoyable nor memorable. You can hear in all of their songs from their first album and even in their second album “ The Inner Minds Eye” which I like more so, that Busta overshadowed his group mates with lyrical creativity and style. Yes Busta may have been loyal to the group at first, ( especially on the come up), but when others in the industry only notice the sheer raw talent of his to who’s the weakest link of that LONS group, it’s easy to say that Busta stood out and spit fire on anything he touched like a dungeon dragon 🐉 literally, it burn-branded his name and guaranteed his solo success. In fact an honorable mention, it really wasn’t until Busta’s appearance on ATCQ’s -Scenario that really sealed the deal and foundation towards his solo career and success. In hindsight Busta was already a solo artist waiting for his chance and opportunity in a group that wasn’t unfortunately substantial enough to last long anyway, due to lack of creativity and talent. And C Brown hated that so much of fact that Busta was just better than him lyrically no matter how hard he tried and Dinco D knowing this wasn’t gonna last forever but seemed just appreciative to be a part of hip hop history at a time when Hip Hop was at its best!
@91Definite8 ай бұрын
I feel sad that instead of C.Brown being jealous of Busta? Why couldn't he be happy for him? Busta loved his group but C.Brown made that shit difficult for him, they would fist fight and all? Busta had to be really depressed about that, he wanted to be about unity of something he loved. I'm sure the others felt the same way too but C.Brown was a problem! If you look at certain pictures of them especially one in a limo? You can tell C.Brown mind was just somewhere else! This obviously reminded me of Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers and Busta's Frankie! Everybody just saw Frankie but not the group as a whole, that's when Frankie and Herman Santiago fought maybe more than one time. But luckily Busta wasn't on heavy drugs and career didn't went spiral like Frankie's but I'm saying that Busta was the star of the group.

@@91Definite Maybe C Brown felt some type of way becuz he knew Ross was snaking them, why couldn't they make money together? Why do rappers have to go be movie stars? Ross admitted he was putting it in bustas ear to leave. I heard that story before with many bands. Thats how the industry does. Now Busta looks wild suspect after the whole diddy situation, its sad but it was apparant puff was "passing the Courvoisier" to him. But Charlie deserves credit, he was just as animated as busta, I would say much more lyrical, but you know, that doesn't matter to so-called hip hop fans anymore. Its about "who marketable" who has that "it" factor. LONS were dope, unfortnately, another industry exec ruined something GREAT
