Dante’s Divine Comedy is one of the greatest works ever written and this powerful retelling with artwork is really thrilling, made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck! I don’t think Dante meant it 100% literally, he used it as a vehicle for social and political satire and a wake up call to repentance. The main point of the punishments is to get people to repent: these sinners have got to realise fully the pain they’ve inflicted, the grief they’ve caused, and the righteousness of God’s justice, otherwise they’ll just go through eternity feeling terribly sorry for themselves. Some of them, such as Paolo and Francesca in the whirlwind of lovers, would do it all over again if they were alive, so they’ve not really repented at all. 😢

It's and incredible, immortal piece of artwork. Shame on those who judge without thinking, and deeply understanding.

Very well done! I can't help but marvel at the historical figures. Like Cleopatra, Judas, Ceasar, etc, etc, etc. And how their names & deeds are so remembered. Another interesting fact about the neutrals is that they were also being punished by being forced to chase a banner that was moving insanely fast.
