I love the boho style for the ethnic influence, especially muted Indian patterns, carved wood and plants; rustic style for the natural muted colors, exposed beams, reclaimed and distressed wood, and natural stone; and vintage/cottage for the soft florals and herbs, pottery and quilts. I would love a video on rustic style.

Me too, I love the Boho Style with Tribal (Ethnic) touches. My home is very small so my Boho design uses a neutral White & Cream color scheme. The Tribal elements add color and rhythm through out. This style is not for everyone but I'm old & have had Traditional, Farmhouse and different forms of Cottage Core.

My favorite styles are at opposite ends of the spectrum. But, they work very well together. I like anything that is ultra feminine, glamorous and romantic with a strong vintage vibe. I also believe that elements of whimsy and exotic add interest and fun to a room. I like Hollywood Regency, Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Cottagecore aka Shabby Chic and 1920s-1940s Chinese. I describe my style as Vintage Romantic Glamour.

I have multiple design style personality disorder (MDSPD) and I don't have enough rooms or money to keep all of my separate personalities happy! I find my condition is exacerbated by exposure to loud or busy wallpapers, checkerboard floors and backsplashes, white or black IKEA furniture, anything that could be described as "whimsical" or "cheery," and Rorschach (bookend) marble slabs. So I went with Transitional/Quasi Mid-century Modern - but with a den done in Late Victorian Servant's Quarters motif.

I am always struggling to define my style. I like cozy, comfortable spaces and wood tones. Copper is my fav metal, though I like some mixed metals. I like warm colors, think fall, but scared of looking like the 70s orange and avocado green.. I like a touch of industrial e.g. metal tables and a few quirky steampunk references but feel that only works w certain architectures. Not a fan of formal layouts. Cozy but no chintz or heavy cottage. Any ideas? Thanks

Susan you sound like me as in I can’t work out my style either. What you have described is similar to my preferences - cozy, comfortable some wood tones. Pleeease no 70s!! Not eclectic, not formal, not heavy cottage. My place is white, beige and touches of blue and black. Looks at bit cottage/coastal relaxed but tidy. Styling is all very confusing when you like elements of different styles. Think I need 3 differently styled house which I can live in on rotation as the mood fits and of course the billionaire to go with it😂😂😂😂

I seem to be a mix. I like light and bright ,my downstairs is painted all white, with a predominantly white kitchen (wood tones and a sea foam tile with shaker style cabinets and gold tone hardware). But in the kitchen I have shiplap and exposed brick with a wooden shelves and in the arch between the living and dining is barn timber framing. So I guess Scandinavian cottage with elements of rustic and traditional.

@DoloresJNurss

Very illuminating! I would like to add two styles which I'm torn between. 1. Faecore. Although similar to Witchycore, it isn't as dark, being eerie rather than spooky, and much more nature-oriented. Walls are of natural materials (or the best available imitation) rather than painted or wallpapered, except perhaps an accent wall. Carvings abound, particularly with a botanical or natural motif, or fairy/mythic/folkloric motifs. The style favors rounded edges and curved lines, and avoids right angles wherever possible (or even angles at all, if possible.) Handmade and hand-decorated objects prevail, or their closest facsimile; for instance, you're not going to find any handmade office chairs, but you can embroider the mesh-back with a twisty tree or supernatural creature. Prisms bring in light and mystery. Houseplants are also good. An overall forest aesthetic cools down the maximalism, and green plays a prominent role. 2. Mexican Aesthetic. Walls are ideally adobe or an adobe-like hand-plastered look, frequently white. You will need wide bare spaces to cool the eyes between all of the different colors and textures. The Mexican Aesthetic is not so much about having a theme as striking a careful balance between opposites--it's tricky to do, but rewarding if you achieve it. Something rough and matte balances something glossy and polished. Something raw and rustic balances something ornate. Spots of brightly multicolored accessories complement wide neutrals. Dark detailing balances light-colored walls. The roof is vigas or beams, the floor tiled, usually plain tiles in clay colors, but brightly colored and intricate tiles can create interesting borders, stair-risers, windowsills, or accents embedded in the walls. Everything should look handmade, with a balance of folk-handmade and professional, primitive and sophisticated. Interestingly, this aesthetic can be applied to other cultures as well, although Mexican-style prevails. I've seen an excellent Japanese tea shop which followed the same rules, for instance. One thing it is not is Southwestern Style, although they often shop at the same stores. Southwestern has a more defined palette, usually in sand and leather tones. Anyway, I feel attracted to the idea of a faecore, Mexican-aesthetic casita, perhaps because my mother is Mexican-Indian of a tribe that believes that we differ from other tribes in being descended of magical desert little people, half of whom decided to grow and become human in order to defend the land from human invaders, the other half deciding to stay small and magical and to hide in a parallel world.

One of my favorite of your videos. Thank you so much for the content. I struggle marrying my design aesthetic, and my boyfriend’s design aesthetic. He is more modern minimalist. If he could have everything white, he would. To me, his design preferences look very cold and uninviting. I am more English cottage. I love warm, I love cozy., I love comfort, I love inviting, I love wood and patterns, and all those delicious accessories. As I watched your video, I noticed that I do like other design styles as well. So I know I’m more open to modifying my choices to work with his. And I know he’s more flexible than just having white everywhere. I just don’t know how to merge those two styles together into a happy, cohesive space. What are your suggestions? Thank you in advance.

My home is colourful compared to a neutral palette. I favour jewel tones with a muted undertone, dark velvet green, deep magenta and burgundy. My furniture is a range of mixed wood tones and materials such as leather, rattan and velvet. I do have a blend of contemporary and vintage large pieces of furniture - roller desk, Scandi inspired leather sofa. So l think my overall interior design style is eclectic with influences from MCM, Scandi and transitional. Does that sound right?

I'm planning to renovate my home soon and this was so helpful. It's so nice to put names to my style leanings. Now, I know that I need to look at things leaning very heavily toward British and Scandinavian Cottage design. I love warm, cozy details. I have an eclectic collection of furnishings and decor, but as a whole, they all call on those two cottage designs. It is nice to know how I should refine in places that seem less harmonious.

I recently found your channel and I'm super happy about it as I LOVE the topic of Interior Design & décor. For me it's one thing what style I'd like to be surrounded by and what's the reality of it - mainly because I don' t get to decide anything most of the time. My family's always been stuck in Traditional/modern Rustic I guess. And while I do like parts of those my personal preference is a mix of Industrial, Scandinavian Cottage (less white, I REALLY dislike huge areas of just white) and something warmer and cozier both as colors/vibes and materials. I really can only explain that third one: with "on the border between Traditional and Rustic"? I like to play around in Roomstyler & imagine different things together 😅

@dantierandbalogh
@dantierandbalogh 3 ай бұрын
Wow ok. You're right industrial can come off quite harsh, therefore add cozy elements : blankets, candles, plants! Lots of plants! Also soft materials are your friend here: rugs, blankets, linens, cushions, curtains etc. lighting helps too- only using warm bulbs, led strips in hidden places (shadow gap lighting) that can be controlled by your phone usually for a dimmer. I find industrial style EDISON bulbs can look quite cozy and create warm whilst also staying on brand for the style. But also fairy lights hung around will always create a sense of coziness to me - probably the least harsh lighting in my opinion 🤗 hope that helps & congrats on your new property 😊😊

I believe I'm modern rustic. I had all neutral but after a few years it became dull and meh, so I added some colors of stone like rust, slate-blue gray, black and small touches of brass. It gave it life. I like modern clean lines and large statement pieces and pictures (not a fan of alot of small items). I love natural touches of stone, baskets, aged wood, plants, exposed beams, brass and rustic ceramics. The rustic you last showed though seemed more rich cabin to me (too much wood).
