I know it’s not the main point of this video Dan, but your comment about having to pay for seat selection in Club seats is spot on. Got an Orlando flight planned.. choices from £89-£117 pounds a seat selection. This means for a couple to fly return picking seats can add a whopping ~£450.. crazy money grab !!

Ive just booked an American airmiles long range business class trip 1 BA 4 American flights. BA want between £95- £111 for me to select my seat. American all free (and booked). Screw that. I'll just see what i can get when i check in at T-24hrs.

flew LAX to London on maybe this exact plane in Dec. 2019. Economy in this plane is awful. Most uncomfortable transcon flight Ive ever taken. Not sure what plane your flying on.

I took the A380 back 2017 and don’t wanna fly anything else. It was a dream. Super smooth, lots of leg room and plenty of space to stash your belongings. The flight staff were wonderful

I MUST fly this plane! I had a Gemini Jets model of this one back in 2012 which I don't have anymore but it looked beautiful. To be honest, I don't like the new business class layout that BA will bring to their A380's from their A350's and B777's but I'm better off giving it a try to see if it gives me any satisfaction. Either way, I'm glad to see them back in the skies.

I managed to fly the BA A380 business class cabin from Johannesburg to London and it's a great space (though not quite as nice and cosy as the old upstairs cabin on the BA 747-400), and as you say, it is supremely smooth and quiet, even when the plane is busy. But BA's nickel and diming of passengers is infuriating; the price for seat selection is crazy and it just gives the impression of a budget airline with premium prices.

Yup - I had to pay $350 round-trip ($175 each leg) just for seat selection fees in my BA A380 Club World seats from Chicago to London. I booked early, so I managed to snag seat 53k both ways, which is one of the 4 bulkhead window seats on the upper deck with direct aisle access - 53 a/k, 59 a/k, 15 a/k (lower deck) all share this setup. Having that seat made all the difference, as I felt like I had my own private suite once the dividers went up, and I had direct aisle access. The only downsides were that the storage bins on the window were dirty inside, and were hard to open - clearly, the aircraft had been in service a long time, and seen better days. I didn't eat on the eastbound leg, as it was a red-eye flight (21:15 - 11:00) and wanted to maximize my sleep overnight. I got almost 6 hours of sleep and ate in the arrivals lounge after retrieving my baggage. On the way back, I did stay up for most of the flight, as it was an early evening flight was delayed by a few hours (19:00 - 22:00, originally 15:35 - 18:00). Food was delicious on the westbound, including both the evening meal and the pre-landing "snack". Due to the 3.5 hour delay, I ended up having a large meal in the lounge at 13:30, but was hungry enough for dinner when it was served at 20:30. I couldn't decide between two of the appetizers for the main meal, and the flight attendant ended up serving me both of them!

I’ve flown British Airways A380 a few times and am delighted that the airline is keeping these beautiful aircraft flying for a very long time to come. The investment in refurbishment confirms that. The days of “The Worlds Favourite Airline” have been over for decades but BA are still good. It’s no good comparing them to Middle Eastern airlines. They are what they are.

Flew back on the first A380 departure from Frankfurt on November 8th and had a amazing time, brilliant crew and such a amazing plane for a short flight. I much prefer this club world seat to the tight and cramped club suite seats but that is just my preference. Looked forward to flying this beauty to LAX next year on the upper deck

I liked the old club world seats - if you had a window seat. Especially on the top deck of a 747 before they were taken out of service. Great privacy, like a private room. Far better and more comfortable than the hard reverse herringbone seats on American.

The gap between the next rear facing seat and the same row forward seat can still give you direct aisle access. And rear facing seats give you better sleep due to your head being higher than your feet.

Airbus aircrafts have side-sticks ... but this system has a major flaw: the side-stick for the captain's seat it's positioned in his left ... but the majority of pilots are right-handed. To make high precision maneuvers with the left hand ... when you are a right-hand person ... that's an important inconvenience. So ... the side-sticks should be removable ... in order both pilots to be able to position their side-stick ... in order to operate it comfortably ... with their main hand.

If you can find me any accidents that are attributable to the pilot screwing up flying with a hand with less dexterity it might strengthen your argument; there’s thousands of Airbus aircraft landing every day with captains flying with their non dominant hand. It’s simply not a problem whatsoever. You don’t fly with two hands on the control column in GA aircraft so almost every single pilot who has learned to fly in light aircraft has learned to fly with their left hand.

Lets be honest, if you're regularly flying BA Prem Econ or Biz long haul you'll be bronze/silver so you can choose to select seats free of charge. Also, charging for buisness seat selection might be a cash cow etc. but these discretionary costs do help lower costs in business.

The best part of the BA A380s are the “secret” seats in the back of the top deck. You get a storage area, and you’ll often not have a seatmate so you can spread out.

To be honest, snooty FAs and stodgy food is far from being a BA thing. US Airlines are FAR worse in my experience. I may not refer to their FAs as "snooty" (that might be more of a label suited to the British) but I would say they can frequently be bad - and generally worse than BAs in my experience.

Virgin never had A380s but used A340-600s instead and they weren"t bad either. They also had 747-400s. If you want to fly the 747, fly Lufthansa or Korean Airlines. Add to this some charter flight like those with Air Atlanta Icelandic (they have, between others at least two former Air France 747-428s).

Actually, the pandemic has retired 19 A380s and 6 A380s are retired before covid and here's the list : 10 Air France (1 retired before covid) 6 Lufthansa (LH A380s are prematurely retired but not confirm) 4 Singapore Airlines A380s are retired 3 and a half years before covid) + 2 A380 are retired and scrapped locally at Singapore in 2021 2 Emirates (1 A380 was retired days before covid) 1 Hifly

We just flew in British Airways, A380 business class from Chicago to London Heathrow. We got the upper deck club world seating with 2-3-2 configuration. The interior of the plane looked like it was falling apart. Lights were flickering, 2 overhead bins were “out of service” and one bathroom was not working and closed. Seat controls were worn out and a struggle to get working. Lighting was dim, looked gloomy. Service was average, staff was moderately attentive. They canceled our connecting flight to Rome from London at the last minute, was a nightmare to get to Rome, reached almost 2 days late with lost luggage that arrived 10 days later. Overall British Airways is rapidly deteriorating if not already at the bottom of the ladder. Asian and Middle Eastern airlines do a much better job with their business class, I would never fly British Airways again. That is certain.

What a relief.....If you are an Avios junkie like us ( we bank about 250K pa plus at least 3 companion vouchers ) then the A380 offers the best First product BA has to offer. Using a voucher to grab a couple of seats in First on the BA A380 is actually a reasonable deal even taking the £500 tax into account ( we HATED the old Club World cabin and avoided it like hell ) . Having said that, now the new Club Suites are being rolled out across the fleet maybe we would consider Club on the A380. We have flown several times long haul in the new Club Suite ( on A350's ) and thb it's fab for a daylight flight but tight if you want to kip the whole way on a night flight. And of course, half the benefit of getting into First is the Concorde Lounge which really does deliver. Just need to conquer Covid first.

Whilst the older business class set up is bad and outdated, the new cabin is a major improvement and I think is better than similar priced alternatives such as virgin upper class and emirates. I think there is a little BA bashing here

I’m guessing that when they refit the A380s with club suite they have to use the upper deck because the 1-2-1 configuration of club suite wouldn’t work on the lower deck, there would be a lot of wasted space. The old club world seats though really are very out dated now, there are a few seats that are ok in it but that’s about it, it’s a bit embarrassing for the price of a business ticket. The club suite is fantastic, there are slightly better business seats with other carriers but it’s just down to personal preference IMO but it’s excellent, not really any bad seats, save the usual stay a couple of rows away from the toilets or galleys advice but even then it’s not really troublesome. A shame for economy and premium as a seat on the upper deck was always the one to go for. An A380 is generally so much more comfortable and quiet than other planes though that I think it’s a reasonable price to pay.

I guess the all premium upper deck is the norm; as emirates, Qatar, Etihad and Qantas usually have it this way. But regardless, I will definitely miss the upper deck economy class as it really felt like an upgrade to premium economy. But really glad to have the 380 back in business!

I flew upper deck many times with Emirates and always choose it for the extra space by the window. When seeing the configuration of Business, does that mean that the person seating backwards needs to walk above the legs of the person in the aisle (in case that person is fully reclined) in order to reach the aisle?

Not sure that PE passengers really lose out - I've flown PE on Singapore Airlines A380s which have the same config BA is getting (all first and business upstairs, PE and Y downstairs) and being at the very front of the lower cabin has its own benefits. And it's a massive win for business pax - I'd never consider paying for business on BA with the old seats - they're just too much like a PE seat with extra recline.

I’ve booked for the 27th from London to Madrid, but they changed over the plane for a regular A320fam aircraft overnight unfortunately so I missed this experience I wished to live so much

Really amazing what they offered you to eat there on just a one hours' flight. I've just been on a Lufthansa Business Class flight from Munich to Seville v.v. - flight duration approx. nearly 3 hours each way. Imagine what I had been offered there → a small cold snack (of not even 50 grams) consisting of 1 thin slice of ham on a salad leaf covered with a couple of cold white beans accompanied by a desert of some kind of pudding. And that's LH's highlighted new European catering concept which they call »TASTING HEIMAT (home → some typical dishes from several Germany cities such as Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Munich etc.« - really frustrating which I would just call »TASTING RUBBISH«. Being quite astonished about this lousy service I complained with the cabin crew who told me that Lufthansa had to reduce their Business Class service in order to save money - full and warm meals are now only served on flight sectors of more than 4 hours, i.e. from FRA or MUC to TLV (Tel Aviv). So I would suggest you to fly yourself on a LH Business Class sector somewhere within Europe now in order to share your own experiences and impressions with us here in a video.
