So many Autumn Chores to be done in between cold winds and heavy showers. Getting our winter fuel stored safely, painting the house and collecting seeds are just a few of those chores. Seeds are so important to keeping the herb garden going. My herb courses can all be found here - and my course, Herbal Health for Women is here too - www.danusirish...
Of course, the end of Autumn and the beginning of Winter is celebrated at Samhain and if you would like to know more about this wonderful pagan festival have a look at my Wise Woman Way training course. This is a transpersonal course for healing and wisdom and follows the Celtic Wheel of the Year working with druidic and shamanic techniques. You can find out more here - www.danusirish...
If you would like to know more about the wild herbs in our hedgerows, go to the shop and have a look at my books, The Weed Handbooks volume 1 and 2; and our card sets are in the shop too. www.danusirish...
Thanks to Lol as ever for filming, editing and music. Lol is on YT too - / @lolhardiman5247 and this is his website - lolhardimanmus...
If you are interested in having your horoscope cast or any kind of astrological guidance, contact Francis La Manna at noozbuffet.com and here too - noonooz@noozbuffet.com
Thanks so much for watching - have a wonderful cosy week and let me know how you prepare for winter. xx

I 100% agree with you on turf burning. We burn wood which is local to us. We are fighting to stop the windmills in our ocean here in Maine. We have dead whales washing ashore on a weekly basis! The old ways are the best ways! ❤

I sad your government is going for windmills, so ugly, noisy, and definitely not “green”.I live in a forest, and burn wood, at 69yrs, I’m not fond using the chainsaw, but it is electric, so no gasoline, which I am allergic to. Bless you, think your videos are beautiful! I live on a tiny island in the Pacific Northwest of USA, no windmills here, thank goodness!

Good morning Terri!! I so agree with you about having a fire. It is calming; it reconnects you to the past; it provides warmth and cooking as well AND it makes such a great atmosphere for reading another book!!😊 Like you right now is really busy putting the farm to bed for the winter. Putting bedding in the barns ti make them more cozy for the animals; stocking up on hay and firewood. The list goes on. Work never stops but will slow down and anticipating spring births.

Thank you for speaking to the issue of heating our homes. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to this issue. What works for me may not work for others. I live in a state that is 80% forested. We harvest diseased trees and those that have fallen in storms for firewood. Done consciously and reasonably we can help the environment, rather than destroy it. Living small and gently on the land works wonderfully well. I love your videos, they are beautiful and encouraging. Blessings to you both and all the animals!

You are so right! some people seem to think that humans are detrimental to the land or the forest but the truth is, all beings can live symbiotically and can help each other. That is so common sensible, to harvest diseased and fallen branches - a win-win. xx

We have a wood stove, and a furnace mostly for back up. When I was little, we only had a stove and me, my parents and brother would go out every year and harvest, (only what we needed for the winter) trees off our plot of land. My dad was always very particular about which trees to take he would spend awhile accessing the health of the tree, the species and such. He was very good at keeping the forest healthy and being mindful not over harvesting. I learned how to use a chainsaw, split wood with a maul and get a good feel and understanding of the woods from him.🍁🍂

I had to laugh ,I think you and Peter must be kindred souls when it comes to winter fire fuel preparation ,he's never happier than when all our wood storage is full and ready for the cold weather . Local supply is so important our fire wood all comes from sustained(coppicing and managed felling) woods not 5 kms from us . Here in France if woodland is cleared for any reason ,double the area must be replanted . xx

We heat primarily with wood logs. We have 2 woodstoves, and on single/negative temps (F) days, we have an oil backup system. Honestly, more and more, I feel the majority of earth's issues stems from the absurd megalopolis cities and the unsustainable lifestyles of so many. From health problems to environmental problems, it seems to all boil down to a blatant disconnect/uncaring about what is real and what is not. I have moved now to just staying within my own world, living within what I know to be real. Thanks for another wonderful episode!!❤

Another beautiful day at your home, Terri. Nothing is as cosy as a fire in winter, I agree. In the autumn, I bake a lot, especially with apples. October 21st is Apple Day in the UK, and although I’m in Canada, I observe it every year. The birthplace of the McIntosh apple is not far from where I live so I always bake apple crisp with that special variety. The fall is probably my favourite season. Enjoy your turf fires. Such a comforting smell.

It's gorgeous there! I agree on the wind turbines. They are far from being "green". Lots of impact to wildlife and humans. The blades go into landfills along with electric cars. It takes 60 gallons of oil(petroleum) to run those blades. Having turf, wood, solar is an excellent idea! You can't switch to one thing overnight. Ease into alternative energy. Blessings 🙏

Another heartwarming video Terri and Lol. My husband always had a wood stove in the living room of our home, and it served us well for decades. His declining health prompted a shift to have a natural gas fireplace installed. We still have the wood stove as a backup heat source. He would gather the wood, or buy cords for delivery. He used a wood splitter. We would all help stack wood. He enjoyed the rituals of the pioneer experience. The natural gas fireplace was a necessary choice this past year. ... Terri, my grandmother used to have her unpaved country home lane way lined with painted white rocks on the sides, to reflect headlights for safe driving. She also had 2 crab apple trees and harvested these fruits to add to her pies. Such wonderful memories you have sparked from my memories. Take care both of you. Your videos are a welcome start to my Sunday routines. Blessings from Canada.

I will gladly change my weather here in SanFran with you ... Today, and the next few days, we have another insane heat dome wave hitting us. high 80s peaking 90s, dropping into high 80s, ... then 92, 100, 96, 92, with a long period of mid-hi 80s in the non-Autumn, non-Fall days ! I keep having to remind (ahem !) "a higher source" that this is NORTHERN California, it is coastal COOL, CHILLY, WINDY weather, and all of these equatorial screaming-hot Sirocco temperatures need to GO !!!! Return the weather dial back to cool, chilly, windy, and refreshing. And ... if anybody (from some other birth origin location) is praying for their birth weather and climate here, screw that ! Either put on more clothes, SHUT - UP !!!, stop praying for insane weather, ... or go back to your hell hole ! I can't peel off any more skin ... or drink and bloat up with cold drinks ... to keep cool !

Fire IS Life. That's what people have forgotten. ...been made to forget... For Us: Free, unlimited, independent & regardless of weather, electricity, government or a bill owing to a mega corp - Cooking. Heat. Hot Water for bathing & laundry. Water purification. Light. Entertainment & Comfort...and exercise! Connection to Life outdoors while stuck inside all winter. All contained in a few pieces of wood, or turf. It's amazing really. ❤ Also some species of trees and plants that repopulate old forest require fire to germinate first. Not necessarily the insane fires of these days, but throughout history.

And dead trees and branches are best burned as then we don't have to harm any trees for fuel. All the old stories tell us that people went foraging for wood, for branches. Woodlands need to be managed so that when the fires come they are effective rather than destructive xx

Good afternoon from Spain. Here it's very warm 🥵, I've been on the beach ⛱️ having lovely swims. I agree very much with you about putting on your chimney in winter. It makes you feel happy, also it used to be our ancestors TV. You can use it in many ways, such for cooking, having always hot water on the stove, you can also put fruit peelings that will give a delicious aroma to the house. I think that "wind farms are more contaminated than lighting the chimney, they cost a fortune and they are not sustainable, that's what they want to makes us think. Lots of love and happy October. On the second they will be a solar eclipse 😊😊.XX

I have an open fire albeit I don't use it often, I burn 'smokeless fuel' and I love collecting kindling from fallen trees etc. It brings me warmth and fresh air while collecting it, warmth whilst cutting it and warmth sitting in front of the fire. That carbon that it omits barely makes a dint in the atmosphere as opposed to private jets, speed boats, the heating of 4 houses etc. 👀 by those who shall not be named! 😂. ENJOY your lovely traditional cosy fire Terri and Lol. ❤

They tried installing those off shore windmills where I live in New Jersey USA, and we had so many washed-up dolphins and whales. Many of us prayed against it. Thermals, bed socks and maybe my motorcycle balaclava in bed just like in times gone by. It's usually warmer outside than inside my house in winter or that's how it can seem. I'd love a turf fire but I have to make do with my Himalayan Salt lamps, one of which is even in a little basket and actually looks like it's burning coals! Even use one as a bedside light. I got given an electric blanket but have never tried it as I am usually warm enough in bed. My mother wanted to buy me one when young and the ice used to form inside on my bedroom window but I didn't like the idea of it though obviously they are popular so must be something good about them? Maybe I will try it this year? I bet that you have one of those bed pan warmers with a big lump of turf burning in it. Absolute bliss. A lot of maybe richer houses did used to have fireplaces in the bedrooms I think? That must have been cosy.

I remember the ice on the windows - so magical! Made us tough😂 My mother made us wear old cardigans over our pjs. We had an old house with some working fireplaces - fantastic when you were in bed with a cough or heavy cold and a little night light paraffin lamp burning. Made up for being ill. Unfortunately, today I have no fireplace in the bedroom and have to make do with a rubber hot water bottle. Your lamps sound cosy xx

Hi Terri, everything looks lovely! I think it's very interesting, burning the turf. It's worked for centuries so it's a good thing! We use our wood stove for heat, and we will be cutting dead trees or trees blown down from storms. We are lucky to have hard wood trees in our area. We used to heat with oil, but it got so expensive. Several years ago my family put in a pellet stove in the once barely used fireplace, and now we only use the oil for the hot water heater. So we've saved a bit of money, and we have a nice cozy fire in the stove all winter. I've always heard of folks burning peat to heat their homes, but I live in southern New England, so I've never been able to experience it. I also understand the unwanted industrialization. We're not dealing with the windmills, but the town I live in paved over a large field to build a shipping warehouse that no one wanted (except those who were gonna benefit from it). Before they plowed it under it had been largely untouched, so it was covered with wild grasses and flowers, and you could see deer grazing with their fawns on your drive to work in the morning. It was so pretty.

That is so sad! They must have hard hearts. They are building digital data centres here that are going to drain our rivers to keep cool and that is why they want all these windmill farms everywhere - nothing to do with so called climate change. Where are you in the south? I was in Glastonbury a few years ago and in the museum they explained that they used to cut turf there but they stacked it in a different way to us. Was interesting xx

We don’t have turf but heat my home with wood and yes I have been preparing the same and going through the same process of obtaining, storing and consistently moving it to the shed and as it will, will be carting it to the house for burning…in the winter it is the heart of our home….if and when it is not burning, there seems to be something missing …temperatures here are still too warm for the need to burn.
