Sounds like Helen never managed her Finances or skills enough. Same skillset but different outcomes? Or maybe Helen is 30-48, and is building the skillset to breakout on her own. How about. Helen didn’t want the headache of liability or startup cost. Helen never had any contacts in the industry. Everybody in a company is equally important.

My company hired a Helen who was a stock broker doing all of the work while her more senior partner getting a higher percentage of the commissions was doing nothing but vacationing. Our Helen took nearly all of the clients, because they haven’t even spoke to the other guy in years. I promise you, if you make someone else do all the work and they aren’t being fairly compensated - they will resent you.

Lot of pessimism in the comments, I’ve read all of Richard Bransons books, the guy he is referencing. He essentially frontloaded all his work in effort in the first half of his life and now franchises his brand to other companies he aligns with. Props to Helen but Helen wouldn’t have a job unless Richard spent countless hours and years building his companies and brand. Once you’ve made it you can hire people to do your work for you to “buy back your time”.

I had to go through my dad’s executive assistant to talk to him.. I was in England and my passport was stolen I called my dad to help me, when Nicole answered and I told her what happened and I needed my dad she said you’re not bothering him, he’s in board meetings all day I will get it sorted.. and she did!!

You have to outsource. Don't underestimate that, don't try to do everything yourself, higher good people or at least a person who is smart and can think outside the box and that you gel with. It will save you countless time and make everything more efficient

You need to start somewhere. Also there are periods of huge storm the stress from which could handle very small amount of people. For example during covid everyone had to work 16 hours per day, 7 days per week just to keep business afloat. Lots of business owners went bankrupt who wasn't able to adapt to the changed environment.

I get the point being made and I don't necessarily disagree . I would offer that there is a lot of value in nothing . De- scheduling your life . I see most people , rich and not so rich with a over packed life full of obligations and scheduled fun . Leave room , where you can for randomness , no plan , just improvised activity . Spoiler: that assistant earns like 45-60k/y for basically being the CEO. Spoiler 2: All those companies run absolutely fine without either Helen or the CEO, because „executive decisions“ are already made and informed by dozens of people before they even get up the chain and largely are just per forma anyway.

I think he got his money the same way any other billionaire did: he inherited a smaller but still life changing amount and could afford to start businesses and fail until one of them succeeded.
