It did feel strange for me too while I was working on this video lol, but I think it makes sense based on Russia's significance in the recent centuries.

Because untill Ivan the fourth russia hadnt existed as a united country. It had been separated into many little kindoms ruled by a Rurik's (the viking who had been asked by slavs to rule them) descendants, who swored with each other (there where even the kindom, which were ruled by a special soviet and which hadn't one ruler,many years before democracy even existed!). This disconnection caused the mongol invasion, which prevented Russian development for many years. So yeah, Russian history as a country starts from the Ivan the Terrible :).

Funfact about the russian flag. Its based on the dutch flag. Peter the first liked the netherlands alot. Its why saint peterburg has a canal, they founded a navy(also modeled after the dutch navy from the time) and also why you can find dutch style forts in russia

2:11 the russian empire flag with yellow coat of arms in upper left of the flag was only used in ww1 from 1914 until the collapse of the empire in 1917. there were three flags used during Peter 1' reign, the blue cross with white upper left and lower right with red upper right and lower left (Ensign of the ship Oryol 1668-1693), then normal flag of russia with the bronze imperial eagle in it (Flag of the Tsar of Russia 1693-1700), then later in 1705 the normal flag of Russia was used until the creation of First official State Flag of the Russian Empire (black, yellow and white 1858-1896).

Before the Bolshevik uprising, the February Revolution took place and Tsar (Emperor) Nicholas II was forced to abdicate in favor of his brother Mikhail. But he immediately refused and appointed a provisional government (the Russian Republic was formed). And then the Bolsheviks started the October Revolution, and then the civil war. But the Bolsheviks really killed Tsar Nicholas II. After the overthrow of the tsar, he was sent to Yekaterinburg, where he lived quietly with his family. Thank you for the comment, yeah, I realized the Russian revolution clip was off because before the communists there was a period of a Liberal government, but I simplified it. Mostly because the liberal government lasted for a short amount of time and doesn't have much significance today, while while the Bolshevik defined Russia's 20th and modern history.

A couple of fun facts: 1. Through the fault of Ivan the Terrible, incomparably fewer people died than under other progressive rulers of Europe at that time (More people died in France during one St. Bartholomew's Night than during the entire reign of Ivan IV) 2. Napoleon was not defeated by winter - by the time it began, he had already lost many soldiers after Borodino and sitting in Moscow. The final defeat was predetermined by his defeat in the battle of Maloyaroslavets, because of which he had to retreat back outside Russia through the devastated areas. 3. It is hardly possible to say that someone won the Crimean War, given that the restrictions imposed on Russia were also imposed on Turkey, and France and England together suffered almost equal losses to Russia with a much smaller army at their disposal. Well, in this war, the Anglo-French troops were defeated by Russian monks in the north and ordinary citizens in Kamchatka. 4. Russian Russian-Japanese war was started by JAPAN, without declaring war, firing at the Russian Port Arthur. Can you do a history of Spain? I would say that it is very interesting, from the Phoenicians, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, reconquest, conquest of America, the inquisition, the wars of the 30 years, the war of succession, war against British pirates, Napoleonic invasions, independence of the Americas, civil wars, frank, etc.
