I looked up Daphne in my mythology book, and lo and behold; these are not the only two loves of Apollo who die to become plants: Kyparissos became the cypress when he died of grief, Leukothoe was buried alive by her father when he discovered she was having an affair with Apollo, and an incense tree grew up from her grave. Her rival Klytie, also a mistress of Apollo, was made into the sunflower for revealing her tryst with the god. So at least five counts of plant-based murder. He is a botanical serial killer. Or, as the always flowery misters Bloch and Secher (1882) tells it: "In these tales, Apollo appears as the personification of Death, who abruptly annihilates life: young and old alike fall by his deadly arrows like the flowers that shrivels in the scorching rays of the summer sun." Apollo is now officially frightening.

Johan Kristian Milde Clytie and Apollo never had a relationship....she was rejected by him. And in some versions, it's Helios who is involved with Leucothea and Clytie, not Apollo. And Cyparrius literally asked to be turned into a flower because he was overcome with grief on losing his pet deer. (And of course Apollo is connected to death, he's the god of diseases; he and Artemis are protector and destroyers of young men and women resp.)

no god apollon is not frightening . Can people stop making fun of him and his love stories ? he's simply someone who is looking for a love and i believe he's a great lover :) so what if not all his love stories didn't go like " they lived happily after " way doesn't take away the Beautiful moments spent while those relations existed . while Daphne didn't want to do anything with apollo at first because she was shot with a hate arrow but I'm sure after the wonderful act of God Apollon taking her leaves and making a wreathe of it and crowing it in his golden locks I'm sure her heart would have been melted and about hyacinth the boy loved god and he was turned into a flower as a souvenir of his love for him by the god . Stop painting the god as some sort of Playboy he isn't and even if he is what's the problem dude ? He's beautiful and good looking i don't think we are in any sort of position to judge him at least HE IS NOT A RAPIST STILL BETTER THAN YOUR FAVES LOL 😂😱 !!!

What's interesting here is that Iris (as I'm sure Dael and many of her fans know) was one of the Greek deities, the goddess of rainbows and the messenger of the gods. What I did *not* know, until just now, is that she was the (or, at least, a) wife of Zephyrus...aka, the god who killed Hyacinthus in a fit of jealous rage. Mind. Blown.

Wasn’t Apollo under a love poison when he fell in love with Daphne? He kind of pissed off The son of Aphrodite and he promptly shot apolo with an arrow That inflicts love, and shot Daphne with another arrow that dispels love. That’s why he randomly fell in love with her and wife she wanted nothing at all to do with him.

Fun fact: hyacinths actually need to be turned 1/4 a circle everyday to keep them growing straight. If you do not turn them everyday, they have a natural tendency to lean towards the sun, and I find that lovely.

Isn't there a version where Apollo squabbled with Eros about who was the better archer? Eros then hit Apollo with a love arrow and Daphne with a very special do-me-a-favor-Hephaistos hate arrow. And then proceed from physically chasing, but it seems ... less terrible? In regards to how terrible Apollo is behaving?

This is the version I am familiar with, and find even more disgusting. Daphne is punished with a race that she can never win, Apollo being a god and all, for wrongs she never committed. Eros is punishing Apollo for being a haughty douche, and Daphne is hit with collateral damage, ultimately suffering the most.

I've also heard versions of the Daphne story where Apollo was making fun of the love god Eros and so Eros shot Apollo with a love arrow and that's what causes him to fall desperately in love with her. Also in some stories Eros shot Daphne with an arrow of hatred. I like this version because if the god of love just doesn't like him it makes sense Apollo has such bad luck with romantic love (apart from the fact he's kinda apollo-ish) But I also like this version with the hunters so whatever floats your boat I guess.
