I have been playing drums (kit) and general percussion for almost 20 years but never properly learnt the darbuka, or even most hand percussion. Since moving to the Middle East from the UK around 4-5 years ago, the darbuka has sort of been thrown into my life and I've only ever really played it instinctively. Now, with both your videos so far, I know how to properly hold/rest the darbuka and I now understand the dum-tek-ka concept which a drum student of mine tried explaining to me. Your instructions are very clear and easy to understand.

el mejor tutorial que he visto; la gente solo enseña lo bien que toca; tu enseñas a aprender no a lucirte, you are the one!!

I'm 37 years old and I just got my 1st Darbuka. I have always wanted one but I don't know how to play it. That's when I found your video's on KZbin. I plan to use all your clips to help me get better since I'm from Jordan and always wanted to play it. Thank you so much for offering these videos. I really appreciate it. Rania

I did not get more serious about learning till about mid 30s! It is tough finding time and space to practice with 2 young kids. I played it a bit on a camping trip. It is not easy. I will keep learning and not giving up even if it is slow going.

Thank you so much for these videos. I've had this Darbouka from Tunisia sitting at home for 25 years, and never learnt to use it. The other day I took it outside to make noise for health workers in my area, and thought it was stupid that I couldn't use it properly. Two days later, I am familiarizing myself with the maaqusum rythm and already love it! Your 2 first lessons are very didactic and you make it sound approachable, it is very motivating. THANK YOU!!

Great videos, thank you for sharing these. Just one request, can you make the "blackboard" animated? Something, anything, to make it easier to follow where exactly you're at. Like it's done with karaoke, a little bouncing ball to show where you are at that moment or something similar.
