I'm going to start using these concepts with the Lofi Hip Hop instrumentals I create. Really awesome approach to this well regard composition technique. Laid out by a very incredible musician and composer!!! Darcy is a true gem!!!

This is very interesting...thank you. By the way, a row doesn't have to have 12 tones, nor does the vertical columns have to be made from the inversion of the row. There are many ways to organize intervalic materials, for example triple diminished . But this is great how he explains the idea of a circle makes sense - enter and exit anywhere....this expands possiblities......I would call these cosmograms...

Very interesting but that circle only gets you the row and the retrograde. Don't you need a separate circle for inversion and retrograde inversion? Or is it so obvious it doesn't need stating? Or am I totally missing something?

Thanks for watching! The circle is another way of seeing the individual row, to get more possibilities out of it than we might find just by looking at the grid. Making a circle for the inversion, or whichever other degree you're using, would be helpful as well. Darcy did a great full-length masterclass on the website where he talked about how he did all of that for his album Real Enemies. www.jazzcomposerspresent.com/archives

I like the use of numbers, Schillinger, and the row can be any numbers you choose. 2+3+1+4…..there are only six intervals……” jass “ chords……stop that.

Thanks Ralph - fascinating stuff! Miho Hazama did a mini-lesson for us recently (and a full-length event) where she explored some of those ideas - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGqXkImwppV8iNk
