The 2012 hipster barista what's kind of like emo light, he had a beanie a flannel shirt, probably Vans on. Basically they all dressed up like they skate, but none of them ever did. Like some cross between a lumberjack and a skateboarder. Usually a big beard. Nowadays you don't see the beard as much at least for hipsters.

the millenial's entire aesthetic can be summed up as "safe chaos". they're probably the most domesticated generation of them all, lacking the out of touch and proud aura of the boomers, and the dissident counter culture of the zoomers. to compensate for this, they created ironic dirtbag culture, a way of acting too cool for the current zeitgeist while ironically being an offshoot of the current zeitgeist. this grungy, no-fucks-given aesthetic gives off the vibe that it *should* be offensive, yet doesn't actually offend anyone. it's basically a way that someone too scared to actually go against the grain can feel like they are without actually risking social consequences.
@jurassicarkjordanisgreat17783 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I have seen a lot of former edgy zoomers also adopt something similar to this since 2018, "I've grown and matured from 2016" But really they just followed what the algorithm brainwashed them into the opposite extreme, because they lack any form of real thought. They still have the desire to be edgy and offensive. but they can only do it to "acceptable targets" as the ideology they follow makes it so they aren't allowed to make fun of alot of things so they use safe edgy as a way to cope with the desire to be offensive. Which is why you have them saying "racism jokes aren't funny" Than they make a bunch of jokes about how much they dislike the french and british. They really are algorithm monkeys and with the way things are trending this year, twitter being owned by musk was a big loss to the safe edgy people because the censorship they got protected by was removed. I am expecting them to go back to the way they acted in 2016.

This style is definitely the evolution of the "nice guy". Before we used to see the nice guy as a nerdy loser, who was very clean and pleasant, always in the attempt of having a girl. They'd whiteknight them, listen to them, be there, and then be mad that they weren't chosen because they are the nice guy and women always go for the pricks and dirtbags. These guys are still nice guys, everything about them illustrates a man that is trying to appear extremely safe and approachable to women. They whiteknight them, they defend their feminist causes. But these guys were able to identify the nice guy trope and they saw women mocking this stereotype. Because they knew how a nice guy looked they tried to shape themselves into the opposite, to camouflage their nice guys-ness. But in the end it's still very much about women, about appeasing them and trying very hard to be liked by them. They just adapted a survival mechanism to not get rejected right away for being the nice guys that they are. But in time women will update their nice guy stereotype to be Noah Samsem look alikes and then they'll have to change again. It's like watching NatGeo.

Most of the "irony" they do is how they actually act but they want to mask it as being a joke to get away with being an idiot. Post ironic zoomers are the most annoying creatures on the internet right now and deserve mockery. They act so smug and morally grander than everyone. They act like they are so smart because they can use words like "unironically" "literally" any useless word filler to make their sentences appear intelligent when they follow whatever the algorithm online tells them to think based on nothing but emotion. They can't even defend their stances half the time. Most of the time they say "bro be (insert emoji here)" in response to any argument because they can't actually defend the things they stand for. They also talk in an annoying politically correct version of ebonics as well. they also have safe edgy memes. They talk about how unfunny and bad racism or sexism is. while they make memes talking about how much they dislike men and whites. Its the same with safe horny aswell. They always have to act like they are so morally better than everyone and its annoying. when they are no better than the things they criticize. Its always the same tale with these people "oh I grown and matured from 2016 and I was saved by the alt right rabbit hole" while they do the same things they used to do. just with a different ideological coat of paint, all because the algorithm changed and told them to feel that way. Thats why I call these people algorithm monkeys because they do whatever the algorithm tells them to do. What pisses me off more is that these people get all upset with gen alpha humor, I've seen them even label all gen alpha kids as "incels" For liking skibidi toilet and calling it brainrot. When the stuff they like is no different than all the dumb and annoying post ironic slop they follow. They are morally grandstanding people who project how much they dislike themselves onto other people to feel better about themselves.

it's a west coast thing. it comes broadly from silicon valley and from seattle. it's hard to explain but it's essentially the idea that you are a new man of sorts and you don't need to dress up like the suits who stick to their old ways etc etc. this is slightly hyperbolic but i'm trying to describe the essence of a thing which is hard without making generalizations. this is an extreme and specific manifestation of the casual west coast aesthetic in the same way that the tech guy with jean/sweatpants and hoodie is. it's a very specific look that attempts to look like it's not attempting, but it's rooted in the same overall category. you can see this similar thing crop up in the bohemian look of the 60s and how that eventually became a trendy way of dressing as opposed to an actual grassroots thing. this is really just another cycle of modern trend-capitalism, but in this specific cultural sphere. idea within a small group -> becomes more broadly adopted -> mainstream industry notices and commodifies it -> thing loses initial meaning and slowly dies -> years later that thing is revived in zombie form targeting people who have a vague idea of the thing and it's meaning but never experienced it's original 'arc' or only the very tail end of it. in this case industry is social media in addition to the older clothing manufacturing industries and traditional methods of advertising.

Definitely a western liberal thing. These people talk about hating the rich, but they have mcmansions and free rides through college. Looking unkempt is just a facade to fit in amongst multiple groups.

damn its true actually. Someone who dosen't actually care would just wear simple clothes instead of trying to achive some sort of aesthetic

The fact that Trevor the proto hipster can get the greasy mullet and creeper mustache makes this quote even more poignant.

@@ExpertContrarianwhen most people say that they don't care, they mean they don't care what others think. And if you don't care what you look like, you should at least care about how you feel. Wearing disgusting, loose clothes feels like garbage.
