@@ardentynekent2099 that’s easy. I’m 73 so anyone can pick they’re back in the day based on music, patriotism, respect, clothing styles etc. I served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. I love my country. How many young people can say that?

This lady could sing! Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. "Me & Bobby McGee" is one of my favorites by her but she had a lot of great songs such as "Piece Of My Heart", "Cry Baby", "Down On Me", "Little Girl Blue", "Ball & Chain", "Summertime", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over" & her original song "Mercedes Benz".

WHAT A TIME THAT WAS TO BE YOUNG, PRETTY CAREFREE AND STILL WITH SO MUCH MORE INNOCENCE THAN WHAT KIDS HAVE TOTALLY LOST TODAY! I LOVED GROWING UP BACK THEN! AND I DO BELIEVE THAT ALL OUR MUSIC OF THAT ERA, WAS THE EPITOME OF MUSICAL EXPERIMENT AND CREATIVITY!!!! TO ME, NO OTHER DECADE COMES CLOSE TO MY GENERATION'S MUSIC..THE MUSIC OF THE 60's AND 70's! GLAD IT IS BEING APPRECIATED ALL OVER AGAIN! I LOVE THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE AS YOU LISTENED TO THIS!

Janis has been my favorite all time artist since the late sixties. She and I grew up in the same era and had similar life experiences. We both attended University of Texas, she a few years older than me and so she had moved off to San Francisco before I could catch up with her. I love all her songs, my favorite is "Little Girl Blues". She was a white girl living on the Texas/Louisiana border and often took off deep into Louisiana to Blues Houses where she fell in love with the Blues. She was a complicated person, very insecure, very intelligent, not very attractive and was criticized for her looks. She made it big in San Fran with her band. While at the top of her then career she did a little too much heroin and we lost this beautiful woman at 27. I really have never gotten over it.

Janis Joplin lived her short life at full intensity. I heard an early recording of hers that sounded like she was copying the vocal style of Bessie Smith (a Black blue singer who was famous in the 1920s and 1930s), but she eventually developed her own distinctive style. She was one of a kind. Nobody before or since has sounded like her. Recommendations: "Me and Bobby McGee" (of course), "Ball and Chain," "Mercedes-Benz," and "Piece of My Heart."

Janis Joplin was one of those unique bright flashes of pure stardom who left this earth waaaay too soon. Born in 1943 and died in 1970, she was only 27 years old with a big future in front of her. Alas, as many other great artists, the drug addiction took its toll. Trying to live a whole lifetime into just a few years. I still miss her.

That, was Janis Joplin & her band - "Big Brother & The Holding Company" check out Janis singing the Chris Christoferson song "Bobby McGee". She was fist found by Agent Clive Davis at the Monterey music festival in 1969 & she died at age 27, making her part of the 27 club of artists who all died at that age, who include Kurt Cobain & Jimmy Hendrix amongst others. She is the pinacle of female vocal artists, no one holds a candle to her. Elvis would've bowed at her feet.

Who's she? The voice that showed a few generations how it's done, how it feels, and was silenced too soon. Mocked and virtually exiled from Port Arthur, Texas as a teen, she found refuge and a 2nd home with the folk and nascent rock and blues scenes in San Francisco, getting her big break before her unsuspecting peers at the Monterey Pop Festival in '67, which also broke Jimi Hendrix in America after his return from England, and soul star Otis Redding before his untimely demise a few short months later, even before the release of his biggest hit, posthumously. Lotsa great selections here, I'll suggest 'Move Over', 'Down On Me', 'Half Moon' and 'Cry Baby.' Also Janis with Tom Jones on his late 60s TV show. Cheers, young brother, glad you get it. Enjoy the journey.
