Vincent D'Nofrio's Wilson Fisk/aka Kingpin, truly is one of the most outstanding comic book villain performances Ive seen, as he just embodies Kingpin perfectly with so much terror and menace but so much relatability and yet a soft-spoken innocence to him that makes him much a fascinating villain.

Matt 1000 percent has super powers. His other senses aren't heightened to the degree that a normal blind person might experience, his sense of smell hearing touch etc. are hundreds of times more acute than the rest of us. His balance and equilibrium are also borderline Spider-Man levels, although this show didn't quite have the budget to show that consistently. The show is very grounded so it doesn't put a big highlight on it, but it's best to think of the radioactive goop that blinded Matt as the Spider that bit Peter Parker. It did something to him to result in these changes.

Episode 4 is a masterpiece in showing how to introduce audiences to a villain. First we see Wilson Fisk working up the courage to and then finally asking out Vanessa. Then we see him go from smoothly from managing his crime syndicate to going out with Vanessa. And finally when he kills the Russian gangster for embarrassing him in front of Vanessa he becomes a truly terrifying rage fueled animal and doesn’t just kill him but decapitate him by slamming his head with a car door MANY times. No one, not even Gus Fring from Breaking Bad, one of the all time greatest crime bosses in tv history, has had that much of an impactful debut before or since.

Back in the ‘90s when “Amalgamam” came out and Meshed Marvel and DC into new heroes and villains, I so wish they had melded Daredevil and Batman, so the League of Shadows and the Hand were melded; it was the entire reason why Batman was melded with Wolverine to make Darkclaw: so the Joker would meld with Sabertooth to make “the Hyena”. Another great meld, though he wasn’t a hero yet, would have been Batman and Venom: imagine him floating around on Symbiote wings, superpowered senses, inherent invisibility, his grapnel gun and webshooters are exactly the same, and, oh yeah, the Symbiote also can duplicate all his gadgets.

34:30 Marvel was 200% setting up Daredevil to be in the MCU way back when this came out. The "incident" they were mentioning in the first episode was what happened in the Avengers movie!
@LightStreak5677 күн бұрын
In the Complete MCU timeline, Daredevil Season 1 takes place in January - February 2015, a few months after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, during the first few episodes of Agents of SHIELD Season 2 before the episodes that reference the events of Avengers Age of Ultron, Jessica Jones Season 1 and Avengers Age of Ultron. Marvel decided to make Daredevil a tv show set in the MCU because they did not want to water down the character like the 2003 movie did. They decided that it is best that the MCU version of Daredevil have a low budget tv show instead of a high budget movie because he's a street level superhero unlike Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and all of the Avengers. The Avengers defend the USA and world from threats law enforcement can't possibly handle while Daredevil and other street level superheroes like him protect their neighborhoods from threats the Avengers think are "below their pay grade" to deal with.

@LightStreak567 I thought they eventually decided the Netflix Marvel shows weren't going to be canon? Which is why after Daredevil season 1 you don't see anymore MCU references 🤔
@LightStreak5677 күн бұрын
@@generic_sauce They never said that the Netflix Marvel shows were not going to be canon, that was the rumor spread by people that believe that the Netflix shows never had MCU connections to begin with. At first in April 2013 Marvel was going to make an Daredevil movie, one that is in the MCU, but they did not want to water down the character like the 2003 movie did, they wanted the MCU Daredevil to be true to Frank Miller's Daredevil comic book series. They eventually realized that it is best that they make an MCU tv show of Daredevil and other street level superheroes like him that will not be associated with the Avengers (At least not for the foreseeable future) because while the Avengers protect the USA and world from "Avenger Level Threats" like Loki and Ultron, threats that law enforcement and the military can't possibly handle, Daredevil, Spider-Man and other street superheroes defend their neighborhoods from "small" but significant threats the police can't handle and the Avengers think the police and FBI can handle because they are nothing like Loki, Ultron and Thanos (which is why Spider-Man turned down the opportunity to be an official Avenger in Spider-Man Homecoming, he wanted to be able to protect the streets of NYC, something the Avengers do not do. Marvel made a temporary partnership with Netflix because they did not have Disney+ yet. That should be obvious now. The MCU references in season 1 and other seasons of other former Netflix shows like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are there, you just got to stop listening to what naysayers say and do your own research. Case in point, the reason why the the fight between the Avengers vs Loki and the Chitauri is called "The Incident" is because the US government, Avengers and SHIELD did not tell the general public of NYC who were the aliens that came down from the sky and attacked the city and why, they kept all that info to themselves.

Consider this an incentive to watch all of the series in season release order. 😉 - Did you notice in Ben Urich's office the framed newspaper headline articles behind his desk: "Terror in Harlem" (from "The Incredible Hulk") and "Battle of new York" (from "The Avengers"). - When the brothers were in the Siberian prison, the "present from Alexei" wasn't hidden inside his body, it was a rib bone torn out of his body that they were going to use as a weapon to stab guards to escape. - Also, when the brothers were in prison in Siberia we can see the tattoos on their chests. The stars on both sides of each one's chest above their pectorals indicate that they were both lieutenant or captain rank in Vory v Zakone. - The actor playing Wesley was one of the spoiled son's handlers in "John Wick". John drowned him in a sink while infiltrating the Red Circle night club.

After the big incident at the Oscars where Will Smith went on stage and slapped Chris Rock, Vincent D'Onofrio made a post on Twitter about how it was embarrassing and shameful for a grown man to behave like that and how we as a society need to do better, how masculinity shouldn't be purely aggressive behavior, etc. Someone replied to him, referring to his performance as Kingpin and the art dealer in this episode "What if he had spoken like that and insulted Vanessa?" 31:53 You'll have to see a film made between 1968 to 1990 to see a film that was actually rated X. The X-rating was replaced in 1990 with NC-17. (The MPAA forgot to copyright the "X" rating. They didnt' make that mistake with "NC-17") Here are some films that weren't strictly pornography: - Medium Cool (1969). Years after release it was re-rated as "R" - Midnight Cowboy (1969). It was downgraded to an R a few years after release. - Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970). Roger Ebert wrote the screenplay. It was X-rated until replaced with NC-17 in 1990. - A Clockwork Orange (1971). The original theater release was X-Rated. It was rereleased as R-Rated - Pink Flamingos (1972) Like Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, it was changed to NC-17 in 1990. I've heard too much about this film to actually want to see it. - Last Tango in Paris (1972) Now NC-17. If the allegations are true, this film should probably be banned outright. - The Evil Dead (1981) Yep, that's right. Bruce Campbell's first appearance as Ash Williams was rated X. I think it was the tree attack scene that did it. Although there is some debate about how much it actually made, Deep Throat was considered the highest-grossing X/NC-17 film ever made until Ang Lee's 2017 Se jie (Lust/Caution). Apparently Se jie is a WW2 spy thriller.

I found the conversation about how your own life experiences change how you view things really interesting. One of the weirdest viewing experiences I've had in the past few years was watching the semi-rebooted Halloween movie that came out in 2020 or thereabouts. I've never been much for slasher movies in the past but that one came recommended by a teen girl that I'd gotten to know at the time. While we didn't have anything resembling a father/daughter relationship, she was the first person from a younger generation than me that I'd interacted with, so I ended up feeling very paternal in a way that really screwed with my head (because, as someone who is very much not a father and has therefore never felt "paternal" before, I didn't know what was happening). Anyway, I ended up watching the movie, but it ended up being an extremely different experience compared to when I'd watched teen slashers as a, well, teen. Back then, it felt like the killer was chasing "me". That was perfectly manageable. However, watching it as an adult thanks to the recommendation from someone who've just awakened your paternal feelings, it didn't feel like someone was chasing me; it felt as if someone was chasing her/my kid. Man, was that a completely different experience! I don't think I've ever been as uncomfortable watching a movie before. I've had movies where I've gone "Okay, this is not for me," but that has mostly been for artistic reason in one way or another. I've never felt that something has absolutely fucked with my internal life before. It was extremely unsettling. Going back to Daredevil, I love the fourth episode. While we saw them briefly in the prior episode, this is where we're properly introduced to both Fisk and Vanessa. One thing I love about Fisk is that, yes, he's a brutal criminal, but his courtship of Vanessa is respectful af. If you take away all of the violence that he inflicts elsewhere in the episode and just focus on his interactions with her, I love how he's both awkward and nervous, but also treats her with utmost respect and doesn't try to bully her into something. Like she said, he could just buy every art piece in order to clear up her schedule, but he finds that idea distasteful. At several points throughout the episode, he gives her the chance to bow out of his courtship of her. My reading of the situation is that he would definitely respect her choice if she decided that she didn't want to go out with him, and I genuinely appreciate that about him. I think that makes him a much more interesting character than if he'd just been the typical gangster who tries to brute-force a relationship with a woman he fancies.

I have the day off so catching up on my CinePals and indulging myself with sharing some minor comic book geek trivia I went down a rabbit hole on; Rosario Dawson's character is an old school Marvel Comics character named "Night Nurse" who had her own comic book series back in the early 1970's. It was a romance comic back then about the love lives of three nurses working the night shift at a General Hospital in New York. Marvel later retconned them as a trio of nurses who specialized in treating superheroes with one of them working mostly with Dr. Strange which was the version of her (the Dr.) that was his love interest in the MCU who got married in Dr. Strange 2. Netflix version of her was other one from the comics who was sometimes employed by Luke Cage/Iron Fist, Daredevil, Spiderman (before his retconned unofficial healing factor), mostly Marvel's "street level" heroes. Not sure but I think the other one ended up working for the Avengers and/or SHIELD. Love watching with ya'll! Sincerely, You're friendly neighborhood comic book fanatic.

In the comics she is known as the Night Nurse, who attends to lots of injured superhero’s.

Loved the reaction. Wilson Fisk/ Kingpin is one of those characters that is complex, but really good. Wilson Fisk is not only tied to being Daredevil's main villain, but he is also a villain for Spiderman. There are a few comics where Fisk and Spiderman fight. He is the main bad in one of the animated Spider-man movies(Spider-man Into the Spider-verse). He also appeared in one of the recent Spider-Man games which came out in 2018. Insomniac's Spiderman.

ITS HIS SUPER POWER!!!! Blind people can’t just move and hear like that

His sense of hearing, smell, touch, taste are all hyper enhanced, to the point that he is certainly more aware of his surroundings any any person with eye sight. He is basically a walking criminal forensic lab, as well as being able to smell someone 6 stories away and hear a heart beat. He can even read normal printed words by running his fingers over the print. It helps to think of it as a kind of all spectrum radar. So yeah, if he wanted to use a gun he certainly could, and would be very good at hitting the target. In the comics he is perhaps one of the top 3 people on Earth in terms of hand to hand combat. And the reason he is so reluctant to take a life is because he is a devout Catholic. He takes the whole "thou shall not murder" thing seriously. The harder he is pushed to do it, the more morally conflicted he feels.

This was made entirely separate from the MCU team since it was a tv series on netflix. They weren't allowed to make too many references or name stuff from MCU. Same with MCU and netflix marel stuff.

I can relate to seeking distance from entertainment that's too dark. Sometimes real life is dark enough already and you just want your entertainment to be entertaining escapism. If you surround yourself with darkness you'll go blind. And then you'll gain cool sensory powers and have to sleep in a sensory deprivation coffin like a vampire. Thats a depressingly funny thing about the Affleck movie.

Top 5 MCU villains. 1) Kingpin, 2) Thanos, 3) Killmonger, 4) The High Evolutionary, 5) Loki (in phases 1 and 2).

I feel like Killgrave should be somewhere on that list. They didn't use him to his full extent, and Jessica Jones was a hit-or-miss show, but the powerset and David Tennant's performance alone had me terrified of him from the jump.

Vivian was right. Yes, the gory aspects of this whole show it´s what made Wilson Fisk/Kingpin the villian that he is. Other than prove how brutal he is it also tells you why is he the final boss of the show

1:06:40 That’s fair, Kristen 😂 I wish I could go back to a time when R-ratings affected me enough to turn off my screen. But sadly, my dumb teenager self went through a horror movie obsession phase, and now nothing phases me when it comes to blood and gore. We must treasure purity when we can

I’m not sure if anyone has told you yet but you should probably know with some stuff you’re going to see. Fisk has been said to have less than 2% body fat, he is almost pure muscle.
