I hoped that in the second season their twins would be together, because the twins embody all the most secret desires of a person. Perhaps Daria is simply not ready to accept her feelings for Miki and hides them even from herself, while in a double these secret feelings would certainly have manifested. (That's why she hastily found something to replace these feelings by starting a relationship with the first person closest to her. For she started dating him too abruptly.
