Oh, this game is great! The track "Sad Freedom" has a permanent place in my work playlist. That song is seriously beautiful! Another SNES RPG with a near-identical combat system is "Dark Law: Meaning of Death"

The sprites look just like the ones seen in Seiken Densetsu 3, Legend of Mana, and SaGa Frontier. Especially SaGa. They had to have been done by the same artists.

The battle system looks quite unique! Pretty cool they did a slightly different twist on the typical sRPG genre. Since you said it is only like 15 hours long, I'll definitely have to check it out. I love shorter RPGs. I don't think how long to beat an RPG doesn't really matter, look at Chrono Trigger for example.

Gorgeous graphics! Not much of an SRPG fan but it IS released by Square, pre-Enix. Looks a lot cleaner than most SRPGS regarding the grid. What's up with monkeys in Japanese games and the Ukiki, or Kiki sounds? There's Kiki the monkey in Zelda LTTP, htis monkey character says Ukiki..and I'm pretty sure the monkey in Mega Man Legends makes that sound too. Or was it Zack and Wiki?

Good review! I love some Strategy games, and I've played this before and it was fun. However I wasn't a big fan of the story, which is mostly why I play RPGs. One thing that always turned me off was the character sprite for I think it's Red, he looks like he should be carrying briefcases in both arms because of how far out they are. I know its because he is probably supposed to be buff, but it always bothered me.

I'm so glad you took the time to look over this one! I just played it recently, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I actually think one of the greatest strengths of Treasure Hunter G is in the characters; I don't know if the dialogue was like this in the original Japanese version, but I thought some of it was genuinely funny. Especially that monk in the temple that says “I’ve been here meditating for over 50 years. Where’s my goddamned enlightenment?” I also really liked how much the four characters interacted with each other throughout the adventure. I think even some of the best RPGs for the console can be a bit dry when it comes to that, but I really felt that these characters bonded over the course of their journey. Every time you would go to an inn, the characters would have a small, unique conversation. If you went up to a sandcastle and tried to interact with it, the characters would all help to build it. It's little details like that which really helped me finish the game as opposed to just playing it for a while. (Of course, its brevity and the battle system certainly helped.)
@DariaPlaysRPGs8 жыл бұрын
I liked the old guy that was "Yoyoyoyoyoyo.... what? When you get to be my age you want to try something weird." But yeah while I thought the overall story was meh, but the conversations were great.

Heya Daria. How's it going? Life treating you well lately? Anyway, you've sort of opened Pandora's box here. I've long been interested in videogame board games. Like Mario Party, Beauty And The Beast on GBC, Sugoro Quest, and now apparently Dokapon Kingdom. I do like adaptations of existing games like Clue or HeroQuest but mainly I'm looking for original games done in the style of board games. Is there a resource you can recommend to help me find as many of these as possible? Do you use a certain site for research? I've been looking but can't seem to find one.

This reminds mean more of old school PC RPGs like many Ultimas and the D&D goldbox games more then an SRPG but it would have been fun. And I never understood why Super Nintendo publishers yielded the SRPG front of the North American 16-bit wars to Sega with so little effort Super Famicom had some great SRPGs but outside of Ogre Battle they never made it to the US except for some that got ported to a later system in America.

If the story is like the original Breath of fire game or Lufia then count me out. If its at-least a little more inventive then i might consider it. Like something more attune to Secret of mana (pretty straightforward story but also with a few interesting twists and meatier translation) I do like the visuals and gamplay elements however. I need a bit more input though before i decide to purchase it.
@DariaPlaysRPGs6 жыл бұрын
If it helps, I hate the first Breath of Fire and Lufia but really enjoyed THG. But unlike those other games, it has excellent gameplay to keep the player engrossed. The story's ok. Nothing you're really going to think much about after the adventure's over, but I think it's entertaining enough while you're playing it. Certainly has its fair share of funny moments and high action points.
