@@watchmedo635 Exactly, she knows to put her foot down when it's jeopardizing her health. These was an interview where she was asked whether she wants to be like Sasha landing 5 quads, or Anya winning Olympic gold with a clean skate. Her reply was "healthy limbs", which made me laugh at the sass but also give her tremendously respect. It's unfortunate that her personality would partially be what caused her not succeed under the Ttuberidze system for over a year, she's not willing to put herself in danger, and as a consequence, Eteri overlooks her for others. Still bummed that covid denied her the chance of becoming the 2020 world champion

Re: Daria's hip injury/sister's injury, there are some genetic components to risk of hip injury, specifically abnormalities in the hip bones or surrounding soft tissue which can lead to much higher risk of serious injury in chronic overuse settings (ie. youth competitive sports). A couple anecdotal additions; a friend of mine played competitive football, and experienced severe hip pain from it due to a slight malformation in his hip joints which he was born with. Also, in hockey, you'll often see certain players struggle with ongoing hip issues and labral tears from very early in their careers (without ever having an initial inciting incident), meanwhile, other players can play 15+ year professional careers as adults, and never run into the same issues. The wear-and-tear of skating seems to impact peoples bodies pretty differently

It's so sad to see what has emerged among these talented young Russian female figure skating phenoms. Including Kamila Valieva, Sasha Trusova, Alena Kostornaya, Maya Khromyk, and Daria Usecheva who have all suffered such a devastating fate under Eteri Tutberidze. The woman appears so cold and unfeeling. She just moves on to another young aspiring female figure skater whom she can exploit. Meanwhile, these young women continue to struggle to get their lives back into shape after years of enduring abuse at the hands of a demanding coach and tyrant. Eteri produced two back-to-back Olympic champions but her legacy will always incite suspicion.

@@NG-ue4th Eteri is the most celebrated coach in figure skating and she is beloved by the Russian people. However, she is contributing to the climate of child abuse that emanates throughout the field. Julia Lipnitskaia was the first casualty of her stern and demanding coaching tenure. To this very day, she still hasn't recovered from the perennial injuries that affect her both physically and mentally. She excoriates those who rebel on social media including former student, Alena Kostornaya, and rarely talks about the ones who have earned top honors. Including gold medal winner Anna Scherbakova whom she literally abandoned on the most important night of her career during the 2022 Olympics. What kind of memories are these girls supposed to hold onto especially when their careers in this once-celebrated field are dreadfully limited?

Fact-checking. According to Eteri Tutberidze in an interview with TASS, Usacheva tried to take care of herself before the NHK Trophy and "didn't even train until that first six-minute warm-up" in which she got injured. In fact, Usacheva was at practice on Thursday, where she performed a full free skate, and at Friday morning's practice, where she performed a short routine. (From random fs videos)

so hip injuries themselves are not genetic but hip dysplasia is (basically is when the hip socket isn't deep enough to fit the femur all the way) and that can increase the risk of hip injuries. also maiia may have broken her arm but sometimes casts are used after any arm surgery to help it heal.

"If we'd known about her sister's injury, we would have treated her with more care" Hi! Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome patient advocate here! Hypermobile EDS is incredibly common in athletes gifted in flexibility-based sports. It's a condition that causes hypermobile tissues through defective collagen. We tend to tear, dislocate, and rupture all sorts of things, and it absolutely runs in families, enough that having an already-diagnosed relative is in itself is listed in the diagnostic criteria. Similarly, my mother and I had to have the same surgery on the same knee at the same too-young age. For those in the know about EDS, which I would hope skating trainers would be nowadays, it's absolutely something that would be factored into training and checkups if they'd known to be on the lookout.

Oh lord, I felt that Evgenya story in my soul. Years ago I was volunteering in France, and I spoke French, but not very well at the time. My boss asked me something and I meant to say something along the lines of "Whichever, I don't mind", but what I actually said was "Je m'en fous", which means "I don't give a fuck". Honestly by this point Eteri has more broken junior skaters than European and World Champions along with Olympic champions. What shocks me is the lowkey gaslighting she is doing as if she has been the saintly mother figure, who did no wrong ever and only thinks of her athletes. Though I do think we are coming to the end of the Eteri era. This season has been like a cleanse and I personally have no desire for the previous time to return On Daniel - I'm 50/50 on this. Should people send hate to a skater through DMs and @? Hell no, Jesus no. However did Daniel actually think there would be no backlash and people would just be like "ok cool?". What did he expect? His blind ambition might have switched off his brain and yeah the backlash grew very hateful, but actions have consequences and he needed to face them. I am sure Medvedeva had the same happen when she went to Canada, even if her choice was a healthy one. The Medvedeva thing - okay sorry, but when you don't have excessive access to English, media and the complex history of words you can mess up. Now coming from Russia, where the whole LGBTQA+ community is repressed to say the best, it is even harder to get the finer details down and also sorry - the physical trainer should have spoken up too. Medvedeva struggled with English, so just take her aside and explain what she did wrong, have a chat and mend ways. Expecting everyone immediately know the sensitivities of a culture, so teach them.

12:12 'you can't fight with a parent.' Actually, I think that's the opposite in Russia. Rafael Arutyunyan (Nathan's coach) used to teach in Russia, and mentioned once that when he moved to the States it was a culture shock to have to have parents get involved. Unless things have changed, I don't know, but didn't Eteri also isolate Alina from her mom? I think she's just using Daria's mom as an excuse.

In one interview, Aliona tells "There was an episode on the rink. Gleikhengauz was training and lecturing young skater for some mistake, meanwhile the skater's mother was near the rink but she was looking at her phone and didn't pay attention on the child. Suddenly, Gleikhengauz moves to her and begins scolding: "Why are you not looking? Did you see what she (the skater) have done?" " So, they want parents to be involved but as an instrument of pressure. Eteri made Medvedeva compete with a foot fracture and Aleona train with broken arm(s). I find it hard to believe that she didn't put pressure on Daria to compete I saw a guy skate over his hands once. It was just recreational skating- so no pressure in the environment and rather blunt skates. He just stumbled and his skates slid forward before he could get his hands out of the way and the toe pick shredded the hand. There was blood everywhere and he couldn't use that hand. He was a construction worker and had his career ruined because he severed the tendons.

Chronic hip injuries (and other chronic joint injuries) can be genetic, most of the folks in my family (myself included) have sacroiliitus, chronic ankle sprains and most of us end up needing double knee replacements by age 50 (though I was an artistic athlete so my level of arthritis in my knees would have qualified for replacements by age 20 but knee replacements only last about 15 years so I'm trying to push off that surgery until my mid thirties at least which is the longest my ortho says my knees could possibly last). So if multiple family members have had the same injury, it's best to take extra precautions and undergo physical therapy for injury prevention.

Maya having convulsions makes me wonder if she had a long term severe nutritional deficiency in addition to being in a dangerously high stress environment. Obviously just a theory, but we know this program is abusive, and how mentally and emotionally severe the abuse is likely varies from athlete to athlete, but we know that lasting severe stress in and of itself can result in a wide variety of weird symptoms which can vary significantly from person to person. They are also obsessed with maintaining their idea of an ideal weight, which is quite low and may have been much too low for Maya, resulting in her having to under eat significantly, possibly avoiding certain food entirely and not getting key vitamins or minerals her nervous system needed.

last february i was skating at my local rink and i got into an accident. i found it funny at the time and i still think its a little funny. i caught my toepick on the ice and it cut into my right thumb. i blacked out from blood loss twice on the ice and went to hospital by ambulance. i ended up severing my tendon along with the nerves and an artery in my thumb. they had to cut further into my thumb and into my palm to repair the nerves. i lost around 25% of movement in my thumb and i had a cast after surgery for around 2 months. i completely understand how maya feels.

There are certain hip conditions that are congenital but a competent doctor should be able to identify the issue without knowing about the family history. Specifically, cam deformities are pretty common and can cause in increased likelihood of dislocation/subluxation. Add to that the prevalence of ehlers-danlos in figure skaters (because it makes you more flexible) and repeated hip injuries are likely. Basically it could be likely that she was partially dislocating her hip every time she jumped/landed and each dislocation would make the next one worse. It is something that coaches and doctors should have picked up on long before she was injured in competition.

To be honest, even though I don’t really like it, I think the era of Tutberidze is not over. Her students already are the best in the world. We just don’t need any international competitions, because we will definitely have gold and silver medals. And Kamila Valieva is completely fine right now, so it’s much more like she is the star of her group. Kamila is an example of an athlete who is not broken, who is still doing hardest elements even though she had problems with puberty(she gained some weight and grew a lot), but she is still there, being the best in the world

I'm not a doctor either, just a bitch with screwed-up hips. Apparently, they are shaped wrong or go outwards I can't remember, but my dad has the same issue and we have both been warned (especially since I am an artistic roller skater and my dad is a speed skating coach) to take care after falls because our hips make us more susceptible to injury.

This Ukrainian war has more side shows attached to it then most people want to admit. Let me explain, there are the main stream news that tells the world one story, then there are independant news outlets that tells something totally the opposite. Then there are journalists, and people working and living in the Ukraine and Russia who give their accounts on this war. Question is, what is the real truth? My personal opinion is, keep politics out of sport. Let athletes compete every where they want. May peace and love surround us all😊

Do serious research into why Putin targeted certain labs in the Ukraine. Those are political. My point is, why must innocent athletes be withheld from competitions? There are a lot going on behind the scenes and in government corridors that are kept from us all. This Ukraine/ Russia war has a worldwide horrible ripple efect

Regarding injuries that might be "genetic". I don't know what they meant here, but for example I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which is genetic disorder that brings big issues with joint, In this case it is likely that me and my sibling with also same genetic disorder will have similar injuries. But in such case the skater also should have issues with conective tissue for example that has genetic background

She withdrew from the more important half of competitions; while she did get medals and her Ainsi Bas la Vida is extremely passionate and entertaining, and would be great for a show program, her scores aren't competitive for Russian nationals or their own Grand Prix, so it's understandable that she would focus on her injuries instead. Dunno why she missed this week's show program though. I guess ... because combine her fans to Mark's fans was a successful strategy to win the prize?

Levito is next big thing for US ladies, she will most likely be winning US Nationals, named Olympian for Milano and is best shot at medal for US in international competition for ladies event. Paola literally named her "next big thing" in video about US NATIONALS. Team T is dying, because their streamline of girls has ben broken, there is nobody in juniors to fill empty spots. They had such a big group and now most of them left or retired. "Next big thing" for Russian ladies after Akatieva and Petrosyan is likely be from a diferent coach.

I hope we see Maiia and Daria back on the ice again, but wouldn't be surprised if not. It would be a great move for Maiia to skate for Italy, like how similar moves have enhanced the careers of Katia Kurakova and Anastasia Gubanova. Really, I hope we see an end to this punishing of Russian skaters for political reasons they have no control over. Major international events are now held in half empty arenas, which I have to think is largely due to the top athletes not being in attendance, and the absence of all the Russian fans. Figure skating is already having trouble staying relevant, and the ISU is simply exacerbating that problem.
@90Rush

Looks like even if Russians are allowed to compete only one spot would be available for the ladies at least for this Olympic cycle. With age limit shenanigans Akatieva wouldn't be able to compete, and Kamila is extremely overscored in the last two events. Petrosyan would be their best skater in the coming two years.

medvedeva's story is not really a big deal for me. its a honest mistake that even I do today. It stems from english not being your 1st language. I still confuse "concrete" spelling to "concreate" today. "F*ck" & "Pack". B*tch & Beach. I bet she knows what it means... but she probably accidentally jumbled the letters and how its spoken. Maia's accident shocked me. That's legit scary.

I laughed so hard at Evgenia (happy to get news rven if it's cringe anecdotes haha), grabed pop-corn on listening to Aliona's onz, and felt like crying for Daria and Maia added to the list of Tutberitze "casualties", obviously not giving à damn about her athletes health. We could also see that sometimes parents are rightly protective, sometimes absent and sometimes the worst pushers for their child. I'm happy the Tutbetitze era comes to an end bc of her, but I wish her student e.g. 3A go on their lives healthy and have fun and let us the them skate for more years to come. I watch for the art and I'm never aware of shows outside of international competitions. Can you discuss them both and help the public find them maybe ? And about "meaningless competitions" - you should do two things: - compare money that this season give to TeamTut girls and to non-russians girls - compare public exposure that TeamTut girls have this season and exposure that non-russian girls have (viewers numbers for russian girls alone tell you a story, and amount of fans that they got will tell another - and yes, i said this even about a younger TeamTut girls, who by your words are "unknown")
