I thank the Lord, that my childhood was in the 60's and 70's. It was such a great time. A freedom that is hard to put into a few words. Every teen loves the music that's live around them.... But the live music of my teen years 1969-1975.... I wouldn't trade that for anyone else's "teen" years... It was generationally special, meaning it's appreciated with enthusiasm by generations that followed. A true Golden Age.

This is THE American rock anthem without a doubt. The riff by itself is one of the modt unique and unmistakeable riffs of all time just like "Smoke On The Water" & "Mississippi Queen." This was the Golden Age of Rock (1969-1974) and no period could match it for the number of power bands, music composition, or quality.

Lyrics Out on the road for forty days Last night in Little Rock put me in a haze Sweet, sweet Connie, doin' her act She had the whole show and that's a natural fact Up all night with Freddie King I got to tell you, poker's his thing Booze and ladies, keep me right As long as we can make it to the show tonight We're an American band We're an American band We're comin' to your town We'll help you party it down We're an American band Four young chiquitas in Omaha Waitin' for the band to return from the show Feelin' good, feelin' right, it's Saturday night The hotel detective, he was outta sight Now these fine ladies, they had a plan They was out to meet the boys in the band They said, come on dudes, let's get it on And we proceeded to tear that hotel down We're an American band We're an American band We're comin' to your town We'll help you party it down We're an American band We're an American band We're an American band We're comin' to your town We'll help you party it down We're an American band We're an American band We're an American band We're comin' to your town We'll help you party it down We're an American band We're an American band We're an American band We're comin' to your town We'll help you party it down We're an American band We're an American band, wooo We're an American band, wooo We're an American band, wooo

Did you know that before GFR, Mel Schacher played bass for a Bay City, Michigan Latino garage band: " ? and the Mysterians "... (their big hit in 1966 was "96 Tears") -- although Mel played with them after that song was released, and then only for a little while until their regular bass player got back from Viet Nam. BTW, the lead singer ?'s real name is Rudy Martinez, and he was brought into that band for his dancing ability! Go figure. And while I'm on the subject of Michigan rock stars, how about James Newell Osterberg Jr. (born in Muskegon in '47) -- known now as Iggy Pop. Apologies for my digressing, GF was huge in the '70s and one of the best!

Yes it is....ya gotta learn to auto pilot your drum parts and get back on the mic after every fill. If ya try to think too much while doing it...the band is GONE and you're left in their slipstream wake turbulence! LOL!

They were not fake or overdubbed. This is what they did all the while they were coming up as teenage boys. They lived out the dream of being true rock stars, wote and played and sang the songs. And they were one of the very few fastest rising rock acts of all time. They really WERE rok stars.

The Rock and Roll of the '70's we're good times. Great time to be a teenager. Maybe every decade is a good time to be a teenager, unless there is a draft. Honor our veterans. Without them, we have nothing in this U.S.A.

♪♫ This Day in Music: September 27, 1973 - No. 1 Chart Toppers Pop Hit: “We’re an American Band,” Grand Funk. It was the group's first #1 single. Written by Don Brewer and produced by Todd Rundgren, its huge chart success broadened Grand Funk's appeal. It was sung by Don Brewer rather than Mark Farner, who usually took lead vocals. My first concert was Mark Don & Mel at Pirates World amusement park Dainia Florida 1973. When they played Footstompin Music i knew life for me would never be the same again. I was badly hooked on this band at only 10 years old! Farner slid across the stage on his knees, hair swirling around and whaling on his guitar and it was officially the coolest thing i ever saw. Today im still a #1 fan. Love you guys!!
