Of course , Darjeeling is one of the best hill station in Bharat which beckons huge chunk of domestic and foreign tourist every year. It is a brand name in the world with its succulent tea production . Darjeeling is a name derived from two Tibetan words , Dorjay and Ling . Dorjay means bajra that Buddhist monk uses during religious performance and mostly hold in left hand . It is mostly made of brass . Ling means place . Thus it gradually spelt Darjeeling by the nepali speaking people who constitute more than 80 % of the total population . Why do the name not christened in the majority local language is the question one need to explore . First of all one needs to go back to the early history of Darjeeling . Early means before the East India Company acquired Darjeeling from Sikkim on 1.2.1835 by the deed of grant . The deed was conditional . This part of history has another long interesting events that requires to be known . Local people are less informed and aware of this facts and truth as hindustanis who knows less about Hindustan . Was Darjeeling a part of Sikkim earlier ? Ans. Yes , absolutely.
