Played the early playtests on steam before the nexon debacle and it was absolutely amazing. A friend of mine who has never in his life played a single extraction shooter/game fell in love and is obsessed. I've been looking forward to this game's early access like no other in recent memory. So unique. All they need to balance out is the burst damage meta and it will be perfection

FINALLY some who talks about the extraction shooter genre and mentions Hunt. It's like, whenever someone makes a video about that they talk about Tarkov, and maybe, if you're really lucky, briefly mention The Cycle or Marauders, but not Hunt. I mean, yes, it doesn't have a stash system, but in return the character itself is way more valuable, with the trait system and all. And I personally like this system more. Which is (aside from the ABSURD learning curve) a reason why I didn't try Dark and Darker. I wish more games would delve into the trait idea. It gives you clear progression and advantages without making it for new players nearly impossible to kill veterans. Like in Tarkov. Where, if I would go back now, needed to grind at least a few hours to get to a point where it is actually viable to defend myself instead of running as soon as I see the tow of a high tier player. And for DMZ...honestly, I play it and quite enjoyed it at the beginning. It got the spirit of an extraction shooter. But the thing is, after some time it started to feel more and more like a death match with an escape mechanic. And the biggest cause for that is, that there is no real progression, and no risk. And no, faction missions don't count as progress in this sense. It just lacks the depth a game in that genre needs to really count as an extraction shooter. Sorry for that rant but yeah. The genre definitely needs more entries. I love the idea but the games that are out there are either really empty or too hardcore/grind-heavy for my taste. I would love to have one with a more accessible approach. Call it casual if you want, my point is that I like the tension and atmosphere in those games but I don't want to have to grind for hours to be able to compete with other players.

dark & darker also has a leveling system that unlocks traits/perks for your character that drastically change and improve gameplay with said character (although they are permanent once unlocked until wipe) they have also altered matchmaking so that newer players dont get matched with high level players already. the issue i always had with hunt was that it was far too easy and anything but an extraction shooter. i had 0 issues getting a 5star rating and got to 4star within the first two days of playing the game. you barely ever bear a risk, i never faced a shortage of currency - always had an abundance of it and could play my favorite loadouts. the perks are nice and all, but in the end - a headshot is a headshot, and a extraction shooter definitely needs the feel of losing something when dying, which for me, isnt the case in Hunt.. you mentioning the deathmatch feeling is exactly how i feel when i play hunt - just with the gimmick of having unspectacular bosses as well in every round the only real progress there would be your account level i guess, which kind of is the bare minimum of a progress system any game should have. it just lacks the main point of extraction games, that being actually losing progress / actual value when dying. dark and darker isnt much less casual than hunt, hell id even say theyre both just as casual as one another. if you like the game, go for it - youll enjoy playing it, even casually (especially as a 3 man team)

@@s8n.. Well, then you are just far better then me. My friend quit the game entirely because in the matches other squads regularly wiped the floor with us. Admittedly, we usually play a more risky play style, but camping at an exit for 30 minutes to headshot the bounty carriers isn't really fun to me. So maybe you have another perspective and that's fine. But one shouldn't forget that this isn't the norm. People like me who roam between 2-4 Stars are probably. Sure, you can design a game with totally unforgiving mechanics, a Rouge-LIKE, were you loose everything you ever got and archived upon death so it's a real lost. And accordingly make the combat system an absolute hard-core experience, that only real skill and knowledge of strongs and weaknesses of each piece of gear will secure you another victory. But the question is, for whom would you make such a game? When, let's say, only the top 10% or so can really enjoy it because they escape regularly, wouldn't anyone else stop playing? Loosing is part of the game. And often it's my own fault I die. But the thing is, as someone not as skilled as you, extraction shooter can get overly frustrating really really fast. Even in Hunt, I increasingly got killed in situations and ways I had no control or chance to fight back. And it sucks. Sure, you can argue I could've done *thing*, but when you get sniped 200 meter from the exit with 1 second dark sight left, when a guy shoots you through a crack in a wall or just guesses and fans a full volley through a door in your face despite you doing your best to stealth...idk, that's not fun for me. And nor is knowing the chance it could happen adrenaline inducing after it happens the 20st time. It just becomes really annoying and predictable. BUT! At least I know that in THEORY those 6-star lone wolf's and living bushes can be killed as easily as me. Bullets in Hunt don't discriminate. And then I look at dark and darker and all I can think is: I will probably fail at this game. Horribly. Because I'm just not a good player. I am just some fresh meat the other players will chew up and spit out and at this point, I think I better stay with DMZ and Hunt. Were I at least sometimes survive.

Doesn't has to take away from the importance of loot but it would add another factor of progression and it allows you to have several builds (granted you can have more than one character at a time) to switch things up. Instead of having your whole inventory tied to just one faceless grunt.

My very first character was a Warlock. For context, I bought the game maybe three days ago at this point. I played it almost all day, and got my Warlock to level 15. I successfully made it out of the Goblin Caves _maybe_ five times. Now I'm working on a Ranger, and I'm getting out more often. This game is incredibly frustrating, but also rewarding as hell. It would be cool if the Druid had animal themed spells, but not rhe cool type of animal, but stuff like bugs, rats ans bats. A spell to see in the dark with echo location, but it causes some monsters to zero in on your location, plus it would look weird because you are seeing with your ears. Or cockroach's stomach thay would allow you a small healing by eating rotten flesh. It would be on theme and would make the Druid mechanically different from the Mage...
