The house I grew up in was a little older, but almost the same style. LORD, nothing is level, nothing is square; not a straight line in the house. I love to see how you and your parents deal with this. Whenever I would wallpaper, for example, I could never use a geometric pattern, or even a stripe would show how crooked everything was. Great job of conquering that. Your parents are gold.

The fireplace and ceiling are perfect. Painting the doors and trim same as walls was a great choice. The niche where the tiny closet was, is brilliant and sophisticated. The furnishings, bed , lamps, ceiling fan are all perfect. This is a curated space with such warmth. Looking forward to seeing the closet covered, the door to bathroom changed out to a pocket door. And I’m sure you’ll find that perfect mirror for that corner. I myself wish I had as great skills as you and your parents. Your father is very talented. I love this comment! Yes me parents and I are very close even outside of the home reno process. I think you are right that it is an American expectation that parents are done once their children are 18… BUT also the expectation for young people that being a successful adult means moving far away from your parents and never needing them in your life. As I watched this I thought that my favorite piece was the Mondrianesque wall hanging because you saw the flaws (broken slats) and created pure art. The fact that you (and your mom and dad) can look at a corner and cabinet and visualize how to hide the gaps with a simple desktop, is fascinating to me. I can decorate, but this level of complexity, and creativity for reusing materials is beyond my skill set or imagination. I never would have thought to add that piece of wood over the mantle.
