Once Mr.Hand was imprinted with John's memory he himself started to act more human, seeking answers and being curious... about love I think.
@HappyCanMan8 жыл бұрын
I had a very different opinion of the ending. Perhaps it was only because I've seen the film the one time, but for me the ending was sort of... sad. He's still trapped in the 'memories' of Shell Beach, to the point in which he's physically created the place just to fulfil some kind of expectation. And whilst he'll be with Jennifer Connelly's charicters, it's because of the scenario and the world he manipulated. He's a god, he's shaping the world. In a sense, this was what The Strangers had been doing...
@Snyzeru8 жыл бұрын
they could have made a sequel based on this coment
@halfbreed14268 жыл бұрын
Alternatively, chance could still play a part in the end. John may have been happy to stay there on the peer, but Anna asked him to come with her. It's possible that he didn't even know she was going to be exactly where she was. She, as an individual could have a completely contradictory idea of what "the right kind of guy" could look like based on recent memories implanted, but decides to ask a stranger to accompany her to the beach. Choice may still exist.
@dirdib696 жыл бұрын
I see it as sad yes, but also hopeful. I didn't occur to me that he could have manipulated Anna's memories - I don't think that was possible for him - the imprints being how the Strangers did it, rather than just with their minds. Perhaps it is just what was said, that he was a friendly enough stranger and Anna was feeling so uplifted by the sunshine. Imagine a whole city in perpetual night, the emotional issues that would create, even subliminally. I think an interesting story could have been written about the choices John makes for the future. The Doctor inserted himself in John's memories as a mentor, an ally, so that John would trust the 'education' he was getting. It wasn't said, but I'm assuming the Doctor at least is of the generation of original abductees. He could be John's 'partner' going forward. Would John choose to try to maintain the city, to manage keeping the society going and deal with the 'crazies' who figured out that something was very wrong. Are the Strangers truly extinct? Could John use his control of the city to return everyone to Earth? Though, their original memories are long gone. Are the humans in the city somehow evolving in response to the experiment - will there be others with John's powers to emerge? Again, many story possibilities.
@SunBunz5 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean. It is kind of sad, but at least he's giving his kind, humans, a chance to live and be free, and a chance to start over. And John chooses his own destiny.

proof?
@Ψυχήμίασμα8 жыл бұрын
Blizzardesigns I never said anything about the earth. You're the one saying it has a "glass firmament." Why is it that as opposed to "we're all in a computer simulation?" There must be testable evidence for you to say that. Provide it.
@Ψυχήμίασμα8 жыл бұрын
Blizzardesigns I was clear what I was asking: glass firmament. You're not called on to prove negatives, only positives. By definition there is no evidence for the nonexistent, let alone it being testable. You said firmament. So, try to convince with observed and documented evidence for that firmament and that it is made of glass.
@Ψυχήμίασμα8 жыл бұрын
Blizzardesigns I don't care about any of that. I never gave an opinion on the matter. You were the one who said "the earth isn't a planet, and infact has a glass firmament." If you cannot provide evidence to back up that declaration then that statement isn't true. It's not up to me to prove or disprove anything because I haven't claimed anything.
@Ψυχήμίασμα8 жыл бұрын
Blizzardesigns "well you asked for proof, implying that you already believe in the opposing view." How did I imply that? I'm not required to hold any views at all to ask for proof. It's like someone claims there's a creature named the Gjurffyrloth in Canada. I wouldn't know. I've never seen a Gjurffyrloth. So naturally, I ask for a picture of such an animal. This is the same. I haven't seen the glass firmament nor know what that is. That's why I'm asking for proof. "What do you believe then?" I believe that which is supported by evidence. As long as there is proof for something, only then does that thing merit any belief in.

Not just about love, but about everything at once, which is, I think, where he started to truly become a new sort of threat. It's a dangerous thing to have your entire mind transformed in a second to take on a completely alien mindset. Humans, even with the different imprints, still have a basic humanity, a foundation to work from, and the Strangers did not, which is why I think they couldn't handle human imprints. Eventually the overload of new info without that foundation would overwhelm them.

He was hardly lonely, considering that he found company and love (authentic one because the false relationship planted by the Strangers eventually became real. "Emma" was already inclined to love a man like "John", false memories or not. She says it in prison, you can falsify memories but you can't falsify love). About the world, mankind (or this piece of mankind. For all we know, these could be the last men OR a piece of mankind transplanted only God-knows where) knows no other world but the city, and now that every man is free to develop on his own without risking to be reprogrammed into someone else every midnight (or midday), man can call this city its home and not just a laboratory. True, men's lives will restart from lies, from the false memories planted by the Strangers, but what will come, what they could become, can only be genuine.
