I'm old and disillusioned. Every time I see another contrived story arc, my eyes roll. But Rob has an infectious excitement. And many times I've wondered what modern comics has done to deserve such an effort. So while you may see a callback to Nightwing's roots in this story, I think some of us probably see parallels to a real life guy. Whose tireless joy at sharing these stories can soften the most stubborn of golden age fans. So thanks for still being around, Rob.

Thanks for this. I kinda zoned out on the Dark Crisis after a while. Dick Grayson deserves the props that he's been getting and I'm looking forward to how his story unfolds in the future. I agree that Slade's behavior was very out of character. But the simultaneous outer conflict with Black Adam and inner conflict with Nightwing was interesting storytelling. The reason this whole multiverse thing persists, aside from the marketing gimmickry, is that it provides a convenient form factor for the writers to leverage the popularity of the established characters without being bound to events of the past and play with ideas that would never happen in the main continuity. Which can be fun sometimes, for example DCeased and Injustice. The problem is when it happens all the time, its too taxing on the reader. Aside from the difficulty of being able to follow all the different story arcs, everyone has to relearn all the characters and their connections with each other rather than relying on what you already know. And the reader cannot rely on any newly learned information because in the next universe it changes again. I think a better approach would be if they provided more onboarding opportunities in the established titles. As a kid I could just buy whatever and pickup the gist of the character and cast of characters. But it feels harder to do that now ... I don't know if its because one tends to be more naive as a kid regarding what to read or if there is too much history and continuity now. I think if they mixed and matched epic arcs with some smaller self contained arcs, people would have more jumping on points to the various titles. And they are still free to introduce new characters with the personalities, abilities, and histories the writers want to tell the story they want to tell. That is the better way to transition on to the new generation, rather than restarting characters as young versions again. And over time some of those characters will establish themselves to take the baton from the Dick Graysons.

And I always wanted DC’s multiverse to be infinite. 52 worlds is interesting but it can be limiting for the kinds of stories comic books like to create.

It is nice to see Dr Light (Sexy Asian ver.) Actually doing stuff again. Considering she actually saved the day in the *original* Crisis on Infinite Earths too. It just kinda sucks she essentially does nothing but show up to save the day during a major cosmic crisis. And then just kinda fucks off to do street level stuff until she needs to become stronger than everyone else combined again. She's the Jean Grey of all of DC except with even *more* potential power. But hopefully we can see her more often.

I've been racking my brain for years about this. I'm not a regular comic reader. At least current issues. I read a lot of graphic novels though. Years ago I read a DC graphic novel that I can't remember the entire story. But what stood out was police and a few superheroes were searching this seemingly abandoned facility. Then they find a hatch in the floor and open it. At first you see nothing. Then you see a hand. Then the line "IT'S SOLOMON GRUNDY!!!" . Then the police, even the superheroes that were there ran for their lives. Ring any bells? Like title? Issue? I know it's a long shot, but I gotta try. This is years I've spent trying to remember. Thanks.

The issue is that characters like Jonathan Kent are explicitly stepping into their predecessors role. Jonathan can't specifically even uses the same name, as long as DC calls him Superman he's not going to be accepted. The Dick Grayson and the other Robins always get accepted is because they get their own unique name.

Where was Kismet in all of this? DC's version of Eternity. The one responsible for the original Strange Visitor Superman that you can never find if you Google him. The original Strange Visitor Superman was a blue skinned Superman assumably with big time power due to being powered by the Strange Visitor aka Kismet in the body of Superman's friend Sharon. Try Googling him. He won't come up. Only one that comes up is the Strange Visitor Superman that was from some other comic.

In my humble estimation? Multiples. I'm guessing the whole point of this was that now every popular Parallel Earth now has SEVERAL backup worlds operating on the same theme. For Example: Justice Incarnate is back, but now there's likely a handful of other worlds similar to, but not the same as Calvin Harris's home. So several ways that world can turn out, all of them canon. Same as with "Earth-2" as concept, same as with the Crime Syndicate world as concept. Now the counterparts have counterparts and everybody gets a taste of the clusterfuck, not just Earth-Zero. :)

The reason for DC's original crisis on infinite Earths is that there were too many different universes and it was confusing to new readers, because they all took place in the same comic book lines. So in the Superman comic book line you had Golden Age Superman, Silver age Superman! Bronze Age Superman, and so on. Then you also had all the different flashes and other similar things that were just confusing. And at the same time some of the older Heroes were unbelievably overpowered. CoIE allowed them to reduce everything to one of each in a single universe and grow it from there. They've since expanded it and now they're going back to being able to have infinite worlds, so that they can tell all of these stories again but this time they will have different titles for the different comic book lines.

thanks for the story summary man the choice of slade is obvious once you think of judas contract and what he did to his own kids and other kids (especially terra and she was 15). hes a main titans and nightwing villain. its not incompatible with johns run, black adam shares his power like the power was shared with him, then he says he'd die with the heroes. dick was literally a batman for a time. yes, never mentally batman, but he did don the cowl.

To fix Dark Crisis, I would have the Justice Incarnate team up with the Justice League (from the OGs to the Satellite Era) to fight against the Dark Army (who was led by Darkseid instead of Pariah, with Psycho Pirate and Anti-Monitor as his allies). After the battle, Darkseid would use his omega beams to send the JLA into their dream worlds (referencing For the Man Who Has Everything). This would lead the Justice Incarnate to warn all the heroes of pre-Crisis Earth-One that the JLA supposedly died. After Earth-One’s heroes attend the JLA’s funeral, they would be told by the Justice Incarnate that they haven’t died. So, all of Earth-One’s heroes go into three groups. The three groups would each be led by Dick Grayson Nightwing, Tim Drake Red Robin, and Damian Wayne Robin (referencing Earth-One’s second, third, and fourth generation of heroes). Nightwing’s generation would fight against the Dark Army while telling the people to have hope. This includes Wally West and his family looking for Barry Allen, since Wally knows that Barry isn’t dead and that he is the only one who can save the JLA; and Deathstroke (who is an antihero) going with Nightwing’s groups because he wants his kids to survive the crisis and hope that they would be okay with or without him. Red Robin’s generation (i.e. Young Justice and first-generation Young Titans) would travel throughout the multiverse to find and locate the members of the JLA and bring them back to their earth. During all of this, they would talk about their histories of how they became heroes, run into Mickey Mxyzptlk (who aided Red Robin’s group because they were responsible for making his father the way he is), and have fun and lighthearted adventures along the way. Damian Wayne’s generation (i.e. second-generation Young Titans) would go fight against the Dark Army and search for anything from the House of Heroes and other places to defeat the Dark Army. During all of this, the Justice Incarnate would recruit all the heroes from pre-Crisis Earth-Two, Earth-Four, Earth-S, and Earth-X (i.e. JSA, Seven Soldiers, All-Star Squadron, Marvel Family, Squadron of Justice, Living Assault Weapons, and Freedom Fighters) to help all the Earth-One heroes fight the Dark Army and defeat the Great Darkness. After Tim Drake’s group and the Flash Family found the JLA, all of the heroes would have a final battle, which results in all the heroes defeating Darkseid, the Dark Army, the Anti-Monitor, and the Psycho Pirate; and freeing the Great Darkness from corruption. After Dark Crisis, all the heroes would be proud of the generations of heroes to take up the mantles, forging their paths, and creating a legacy for themselves and others. The JLA would disband after the Dark Crisis because they want to take a break after all of this. By Dark Crisis, Earth-One’s first generation would be in between their mid-50s and early-60s, the second generation between their late 30s and mid-to-late 40s, the third generation between their late 20s and early-to-mid 30s, and the fourth generation in their teens or early-to-mid 20s. That is what I would’ve done to make Dark Crisis a little better.

Before I start viewing this, I just want say, I stopped collecting DC Comics in 2008/9 after the failure of my local comic store to save me "Blackest Night" issues and tie ins, Power Girl series and Buck Rogers series. To be honest many of the characters I cared about have been brutalised, killed and often replaced by tick box, central casting replacements. Because of this I haven't collected back issues. And I dread to think of what has been done to them.
