Dark Deception Bearly Buried - easy S-Rank guide/walkthrough

In this video I explain a simple way to get the S-Rank in the eighth level of Dark Deception, Bearly Buried. There are many different ways and playstyles to approach the game, but here is one that has proven effective for me and, hopefully, for you as well!

There's a softlock in Zone 3 that was missed out on. If you destroy multiple teddies holding the fake ring pieces and there are none remaining, the Ring Piece will not spawn! To get out of this softlock, you can purposefully lose a life which will cause the teddies to respawn. There are some other softlocks this level has as well, but I think that one is the most important. Also, it's the Stun Orb which causes the teddies to get stuck and stop moving. If you don't use the Stun Orb, the teddies should all be working normally. Well, technically that's not the only thing. They may get stuck in some areas of Zone 3 as well. And don't worry, I'm pretty sure you won't need to collect all S-Ranks in story mode in order to gain access to the final level and the true S-Rank ending. I thought this softlock only occurs when you destroy all three at once. Good thing the Teddies split up then lol. Ohh good to know. I wasn't aware of this. So that means that the Teddies that were working spawned in after I collected the stun orb? I guess we'll just wait and see. I've been practicing some of the levels, like DD and CC, just in case I'll have to make another series for that. Also don't mention it, I was so astonished by your performance that I just had to call you out for it. Want me to reference the video?

@@thibbsentertainment Yes exactly, all teddies which get spawned in AFTER the Stun Orb is used will all behave normally. Back when Chapter 4 first came out, the Stun Orb did nothing on the teddies, and I presume that's because they were never given a proper "stun" mechanic, since when we Primal Fear them, they explode. It doesn't seem like the bug has been patched properly and now the teddies get stunned indefinitely. Thank you, I put in tons of effort to get that BB S-Rank tabletless challenge completed. It is definitely the most brutal challenge I've completed so far. But I have no expectation of you referencing the video. I mean, you kinda already did. lol

I think vincent confirmed in his last Q&A that you DONT need to do S rank in story mode, you can do it on Replay, so no need to worry about it.

To be fair, there was still a lot of uncertainty at the time I recorded it, and it was heavily implied by Vince you have to get the S-Ranks through story mode. Now we know this isn't the case, but again, we didn't know that before the latest QnA Stream, which was far later after I recorded this video. Personally I'm glad they decided on this, especially if they lock an entire level behind these requirements, but I've practiced the game enough that I can now S-Rank most of the levels in story mode pretty consistently anyway, so I don't think it should be too much trouble for me to get the true ending either way lol

@@thibbsentertainment S ranking is already Hard enough for normal players, It would be straight up boring. I personaly think that beating the game on the new Hard Mode would be a better requirement for the True Ending, but S ranking is not that bad.

Something else that could make this level better is reverse the approach of Mama bear when you get all shards, so now she runs at you until she gets close enough and then walks until she catches you.

Ooh I would like that. Would switch things up a little and make Mama Bear a bigger threat, especially in zone 3 if you haven't collected the Ring Piece yet after collecting all the Shards

I mean, to be completely fair, it's not the bugs that bother me in this level. I simply don't like the aesthetics and general feel of this level too much. It's a simple matter of personal preference, and I know a lot of people that really enjoy this level

Ikr? Although I must say that now after I've played all the levels a fair amount of times, I gotta say that getting S-Rank in Bearly Buried is actually not as hard as in other levels though. (Crazy Carnevil difficulty is overrated as well. I've played this level many times in both Story- and Replay-mode, sometimes not even trying to get the S-Rank, yet I still get it about 80% of the time lol)

Honestly, i dont understand the hate this level gets. I quite like it. There are a few things i would change ofc (make zone 1 a real zone, make mama bear WAY stronger (as in, not able to be stunned or affected by vanish and such), and prehaps make the first boss fight a thing where her head is always up and always attacking to make it faster. But overall i enjoy it, i like that it forces you to not have your supeer op powers like TK (which is way too op for its own good). Its defently a bit too big for its own good, and kinda rushed. Hopefully, when chapter 5 comes, they improve it (like they did for the chapter 1-3 levels for chapter 4)

I wouldn't say I hate the level, but I find it far less enjoyable compared to it's competition. If you've seen my entire series you know that my absolute favorite level so far is Torment Therapy, because it's challenging, but not frustrating and you have to use each power in tandem to master the level, which is basically just a true test of skill and understanding of the game. The main issue I have with Bearly Buried is that it gets really boring after a while because of it's sheer size and the repetitiveness of it's visuals. The Trigger Teddies are fine for the most part. They can make the level really chaotic if you don't deal with them accordingly, and because they are so small and like to hang out in really dangerous spots, they made me jump more often then I'd like to admit. But Mama Bear is WAY to easy to get rid off. Making her immune to Vanish would help her out a lot already, giving the player the only option of escaping her with Speed Boost, which you don't even have up until zone three, or stun her with Primal Fear, which can backfire extremely bad and put you in a bad spot if you use it in the wrong place at the wrong time or miss it

@@thibbsentertainment I agree that mama bear needs buffs. I was thinking increasing her 'sprint' area, meaning youi dont need to be as close to her, immune to vanish, and primal fear as well. The only way to stun her is blowing up a teddy near her. It is pretty sad how weak she is. I defently agree. However, i still love the level for making you have to play differently. No powers, needing to find the ring peices in the level. It has a very good concept, and i appercaite it for that alone.

@@thibbsentertainment I actually disagree that Mama Bear needs buffs, but I can see why you think that way and respect your opinion. The reason I think she should stay as she is is because I don't think she's meant to be the main enemy. She's mostly there to "give birth" to the trigger teddies which are the main obstacle of the level, with the exception of her boss battles. I think making her immune to your powers would not really be a good idea in general, and it honestly wouldn't even make much sense in the first place. The only characters that are really immune to powers are boss characters like Malak and The Matron for example. Though this isn't really consistent as Joy Kill can be stunned. You could also argue that Mama Bear is a boss character considering she has 2 separate boss fights. So I guess it would kind of make sense to make her immune to them considering the game's logic, but as I said, I don't think it would be a good idea because the trigger teddies already are challenging enough. You also have to consider that not everybody who plays this is amazing at the game. Buffing Mama Bear would probably give newer/casual players much more of a problem and could cause them to quit if it was too hard. I think the best solution here is to wait until chapter 5 releases because hard mode will be included in that update. It will give veteran players like us a good challenge while also not making things stupidly difficult for newer/casual players. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk :)

I hate how you don’t even have teleport until after the second bossfight and all the powers at the beginning of the level and by the fact that you are forced to enter this level I wish that when you get the ring piece in the attic it gave you all the powers and not just vanish because only having vanish in zone 1 makes it a lot more hard waiting for it to recharge because all the powers would be so useful in the beginning of the level because the first part is so hard to beat without powers because if you wake up the sleeping teddies they will turn into usian bolt killing you immediately

I agree. I think it would've been better if we got Teleport after the first bossfight, speedboost after destroying the Teddies in zone 3 and Telepathy at the very end. This would give the player a reason to deal with the ring piece teddies sooner because having Speedboost in zone 3 will make it a lot less stressful, and you don't really need Telepathy in this level anyway. My guess though is that they couldn't make Teleport work somewhat consistently in zone 3 because of the uneven terrain, so they decided to ban it from the level entirely (apart from the escape sequence obviously)

Maybe if there is an enhanced version of ch 4, they can hang some teddies around as decoration and make them scream like the murder monkeys when you get all of the shards, that would make the level more interesting (also some torture chambers since this is the execution site of Malak)

Vince pretty much confirmed that Ch4 will get a few upgrades with the launch of Ch5 that are similar to Enhanced. Although it will mostly be quality of life changes and not so much new content, but I think what you said would be a pretty neat addition, and also not too much work to implement imo.

Hopefully bug fixes. Most of the issues with the chapter 4 levels are bugs for the most part. AI getting stuck or trapped easily, not reacting right, so on. If they fix the bugs i think most of the levels will be much better. @@thibbsentertainment

Are you planning to try to S Rank Story Mode in the future?

I am. I currently have a lot of stuff on my plate to work on, especially in my home life (sorry for late reply lol). I'm planning two more Playthroughs, one where I just play through the game regularly, where I will also add my Chapter 5 playthrough once it comes out, and one more analytic playthrough for getting the S-Rank in Story Mode, where I will break down each levels individual parts and give advice on how to approach certain situations. So far, the only level I didn't manage to S-Rank in Story Mode is, ironically enough, Monkey Business, where I usually fail by dying or not hitting the time requirements. Stranger Sewers is also quite a doozy because the Time Limit there is incredibly strict. But this S-Rank series is still a way off because it will be a lot more editing for me to do to make a guide that is shorter, more on-point and generally better in quality, as I have learned a lot with Premiere Pro (my editing software)

It wouldn't be impossible, but it would take a huge amount of time and dedication I feel not many people would have. While I'm at a point where I don't really struggle with any level any more in Story mode, it did take me a lot of time to get consistent at the game, so I think they did the right call saying we can unlock the true ending in Replay mode as well. We have to keep in mind that there are still a few more levels to come that may be incredibly tough to S-Rank, maybe even in replay mode. That said, I do wish there would be some kind of reward for getting a perfect playthrough, getting all the S-Ranks in story mode and maybe even without dying once (although that may be a bit overkill, Idk). Maybe something like secret concept art or other cool extras, maybe an in-game sandbox mode, or turning Bierce's Ballroom into a rave party. Something to reward the most dediacted of players. But it shouldn't be an ending, so therefor I'm glad they decided on making the True Ending achievable through Replay mode. (This also means my guides aren't entirely useless now, hooray)
