13:27 Grace Jones is a SINGER! The model/actress are secondary and tertiary. She is an amazing musical performer and she is still touring at age 75! I saw her in concert last year and she did the encore while Hula-Hooping for the entire song! If you only know her as model and actress, you are missing out. I have some videos from her concert on my channel.

Thank you for the suggestion! Yeah I mainly learned about her as a model in my fashion history classes and I was first introduced to her in the James Bond film she's in but will definitely will look into her music 🖤 either way we can all agrees she's extremely talented overall

Anjelica Huston as Morticia was always an icon I wanted to imitate, but realistically, Yvonne De Carlo is probably a better muse for my essence combo. I had long assumed I had gamine essence because I am short and have a mix of soft and angular features, but after lots of trial and error, realized my primary essence is Romantic, with Dramatic as secondary. I have been slowly incorporating more Dramatic style components into my wardrobe over the last few months and feel like it’s really improving my day to day style. I noticed a long, sharp jacket over a fitted dress, angular, low cut shirts, or a long skirt with a high slit is much more flattering than the cropped jackets, short hemlines, or high necklines typically recommended for gamines.

Amazing suggestions! Thank you! .. I have quite some dramatic essence in my mix (prominent nose, thin lips and overall cut lines) and since I decided to throw away all aspiration of being the "soft girl", buzzed my hair and threw away almost all my make up (just a little bit of a blush sometimes) I finally feel like me - am I startling people sometimes, yup, do I care? nope .. it all feels a bit unfinished, but that is the way we roll .. however I still struggle with pairing that with my outfits (hello super wide shoulders and weird proportions) - but that is the fun and the heart-ache :D

i love what you said about focusing on the main three essences, it's hard enought like that lol i recently did my essence analysis and it turns out i have a very balanced combination of gamine (35%), ethereal (35%) and dramatic (30%), so i always make a conscious effort to honor all three of them at the same time.

Once again my friend, you've explained things & many fashion elements in a surprisingly inordinate amount of fine detail. You really need to be involved in film & television costume designing. I'm sure your designs would be _BEYOND_ amazing for anything that is filmed as a Gothic horror or even an action/horror hybrid. Truly! Also I see French actress Eva Green in a still at the 9:55 mark. I've always had a fascination with how she looked. Was curious if you're a fan as well? Cheers!🦇🖤🐈⬛🕸🎃🦇

Thank you so much, I appreciate that I actually am currently a graphic designer full time but working on costuming for dark, horror or any apocalyptic films would be amazing but I don't have a desire to work in hollywood - I prefer to have freedom in my career but thank you still! As for Eva Green, actually I mention her quite frequently in my videos (she's my Classic example in my Dark Essence intro video) and mentioned her as an example in this video lol so yes definitely a fan!

@@silkymochi Ha ha I'm glad ya caught my obvious Eva Green jokey question since I've seen her in your past uploads as well as made mention of. I also dig her a lot. She is _SUCH_ an inspiration!! She rocks. What an amazingly (if that is a word?) original actress. Glad you liked my silly joke, heh heh! But oui, I love the lovely French mademoiselle. 🥰💗 To be sure: While Hollywood is amazing yes, it can be alas _VERY_ corporate and "film making by committee". So yes, there's also budget limitations & the like. Having said that, if you ever work on a project in the future, I would be first online to snap up a copy of the Blu-ray. I'm not lying. You truly _DO_ know your Gothic & darkly-inclined fashion sense! Amazing.🦇🖤🐈⬛🎃

I have a hard time embracing my dramatic essence (secondary, I guess), because I feel like my personality has more natural/ethereal traits. But your suggestions like a statement piece in outerwear (like a huge bold fur-like coat and combat boots) are working really great. It’s hard to shop for the little bit of *extra*. 😂 But so worth it, everything simple/plain looks kind of boring on dramatics. It needs a lot of self-confidence though. Thanks for this series! 🖤

Great video! Dramatic is my dominant essence, so I was delighted to hear that some of the things to which I gravitate are in fact staples for a Dark Dramatic look (leather, boots, trench coats, basics with a theatrical or avant-garde twist). I will say that balancing all of that with pregnancy has been an interesting exercise--thus far my favorite pieces are long and sleek, accommodate my changing body, and come in unusual colors or cuts or both. As far as, say, makeup? I like the way I instantly look finished with a bold lippie; meantime my hooded eyes will not take anything more complicated than a sweep of eyeshadow and a simple (film noir-ish) eyeliner look. Again, thank you!

Thank you so much! This is actually why I started this series because I never resonated with any of the examples some creators would propose & I didn't like how they would say dark styles can only be achieved if you dress the opposite of your Kibbe or essence

There is this telenovela, name "Chica vampiro" (2013) wear vampires have their own world, so everyone in the vampire world dress alternative and is so freaking funny to me, you should check it out. Some of the outfits are questionable, but may you can find something good in it, I trust you can.

Interesting video! I may be in my early 20s but I get told I look much younger despite Dramatic being my main essence. I've been a bit nervous to try more trad goth makeup to not look costumey but I guess I'll try it out some day. Since I have Ethereal in my mix I like using glitter and keep it simple with using eyeshadow like eyeliner. Other than that, it has been amazing following this series it has been very insightful.

im a soft natural but i've always been so jealous of dramatics cuz i love dramatic fashion and i've tried wearing it in the past but it always looked too much on me. i do think i have some dramatic essence in my face but not in my body. so it's a bit of a struggle cuz my face is kinda dramatic but my body isn't, so if my clothing is too soft/feminine it looks off but also if it's too sharp/masculine it looks off, kinda hard to find a balance.

I love your content and the mindfulness that you approach these topics with! As a Wasian, also excited to see Karen O as a style icon 😊. I'm stuck on the difference between Ethereal and Dramatic essence. I know they're on opposite sides of the spectrum in terms of angularity v softness, but they both present so similarly to me. Ethereals are associated with an otherworldliness that can give off a sort of "unapproachable" vibe. Dramatics meanwhile tend to have a commanding presence that seems to cause the same reaction. What are good ways to tell the difference between a Dramatic and an Ethereal?

I think I have a dramatic body type and I thought maybe facial essence but I don't know. Being blonde and a true spring it feels like dramatic and dark essence makeup looks clownish on me. Maybe I am more the Hunter Schaeffer or Tilda Swinton type. Or just a Natural, lol.
@silkymochi7 ай бұрын
If it doesnt feel obvious then maybe Dramatic either is a secondary or tertiary essence! Like Tilda she has some Dramatic in her face but her Etherealness takes over lol

I loved this series so much! I am curious about how much an essence can be present based on demeanor only (can dramatic be dominant solely because of personality and how someone carries themselves?). Although I have very dainty features, I have a rbf, and I've been asked so many times If I'm upset; when in actuality I was just keeping my face neutral and relaxed, nothing more. Also-I have tried quite a few different styles before realizing how comfortable and at home I feel in darker styles; and even then, people have told me they found me intimidating. So despite the dainty features that would technically make me look approachable (based on the ingenue essence), I am quite the contrary. All this gets me confused when trying to assess the order of my essences; not sure if dramatic would be more dominant than ingenue/gamine in such an instance. Any insights?
