There are two resistors. The one in series with the LED is 470 Ω. The other is 100 kΩ.

For a brighter light, use 330 ohm resistor

Hi why is it that the led lights on when the surrounding is bright but then when it's dark, the led lights off? I even followed how you made the circuit

Could be that you're using a PNP instead of an NPN transistor. What's written on your transistor?

or does it turn on when its like bright

When it's dark, its resistance is high. And when it's light its resistance is low. It's not 100% correct to say it turns on or off, but I understand what you mean - so it "turns on" when it's light.

The LDR configuration deppends on the resistor you put in series with it, basically you can high the resistence of the LDR with a highier light source, or the opposite.

It depends on your LED. It might be too little voltage for the LED, or it might be just enough.

The transistor is there to turn the light on when the voltage between the resistor and photoresistor passes a certain threshold.
