As a pure dm deck this thing is nice, not sure why nobody likes secrets of dark magic, you can fusion or ritual summon, and its quickplay. But the super poly pure dm looks nice man

I almost want to remove my super poly at time for a second secrets of dark magic. the main reason I dont is I like catching my friends off guard and fusing with their monsters

Not sure? Where can I even start? It's because the card is a double negative in card advantage since it is at best it is a quick-play version of the basic polymerization or Ritual Spell. Since day 1 of Yugioh, these have both been -2 or more in card advantage and also tend to be dead in 90% of opening hands. Granted, that percentage has decreased slightly here, the issue still remains. What's surprising is how people (both casual and more competitive decks) run Secrets and the Timaeus Monster, but avoid Eye of Timaeus like the plague simply because it is unsearchable even though it's only a -1 in card advantage. I guess they are fooling themselves into thinking they are actually wasting their search for a polymerization card like the Timeaus monster or Secrets in the one time they are in a good spot with all 5 cards: Rod+Souls+Circle+Souls+Servant/EternalSoul and they somehow have 3 more cards to perform a fusion? Or maybe they don't simply care about things like winning or card advantage even though they would drop DMG if they couldn't get the draws off of Soul Servant and The Dark Magicians? Compared to the monster, the Timaeus Spell is even a spell so if you draw too many, you can send it to the GY to draw more with Souls, but sending your 1 copy of Secrets probably doesn't feel good knowing it's gone for good. And you know what really steals games? Dragoon popping a monster or 2 (see Red-Eyes Fusion, a one for one) for max damage, and then attacking. That's just my opinion though. It did not feel good losing 6k in effect damage and then a 3k direct attack. Regarding the usefulness of being Quick-Play on the opponent's turn, in Dark Magician Decks, you usually want the Fusion on board at the start of the opponent's turn so you can use their effects, so it's only really only ideal at dealing a bit more damage on your own BP that Dragoon could have done with his effect during the MP when there are still monsters on the field. The Timaeus Monster is also a card that screams "negate me!" after you tribute a spellcaster just to summon it for a cost, compared to having no actual cost with Eye of Timeaus. Eye of Timeaus is also a bit more consistent than people ever give it credit for. Basically, you draw it in your opening hand, and it is playable with a few cards to spare, because you run potentially 9 copies of Souls to summon DM (searchable through Illusion of Chaos which is searchable through Preparation of Rites). But that being said, I'd still prefer to go 1for1 with Red-Eyes Fusion since you are once again fooling yourself if you think the other DM Fusions cover anything Dragoon doesn't. Yes, you run an extra brick in Red-Eyes, but those -2 Fusion cards are usually bricks themselves. The single bricks are mitigated by Illusion of Chaos's effect anyways, and summoning Rod+Souls into I:P and DM into Unicorn will always exist as a failsafe option if you don't draw Red-Eyes Fusion. The best way to determine what works is to test it and be willing to drop it if it doesn't work.

I like your list. Its very similar to mine. Since you can't use the Asian English cards in TCG tournaments and I can't justify dropping the cost for Souls in Australia, I actually run Chocolate Magician Girl and Guarded Treasure for draw power, and run triple robe instead of souls

I really do hope Souls gets a good reprint to be more affordable. Even Fusion Deployment has gone up a little. I used to use that as my budget replacement

@@TrainerDell Yeah. I was gonna get a second playset of Fusion deployment for the deck, but it's been sold out in all the retailers I usually go with for my cards, so I opted for something else and leaving the deployments in my other deck

Nice profile, however the DM deck runs way more smoother without the whole Ash blossoms. I guess I'm old fashion when it comes to my DM deck I dont use Ash blossom, or maxx c, or call by the grave like I see most DM users use. Bc it's ruins the deck in my opinion. I still win at least 85% of the time even without em. But we all play different I guess.

Why upstart goblin? Why not just remove it and draw the card (in place of upstart, just regular draw and your opponent doesn't gain 1000)

soul servant can be chained to upstart to grab any dm card in your deck, or to stack the mahad and then summon him, or if you have circle and see a card you want to pick up with it you can place it on top then draw into it with upstart

Bump Secrets up to 3 and bump DMG up to 2, bump Apprentice up to 2 and bump Illusion up to 3. Add in a Branded engine.

Thanks for the suggestions. That def would help the deck be more competitive. I enjoy it being pure and fun for now

@@TrainerDell⁠⁠do not add more secrets or DMG. This dude is notorious for not knowing what he’s talking about. 😂😂😂 The suggestion he made here that was good was the branded engine. That would be a good place to start if you wanted to incorporate another engine. If you did wanna stay the more pure DM route I’d also suggest more blow out cards like dark ruler no more, lightning storm, etc. and maybe some more floodgates, max out on skill drain, Gozen match, rivalry, etc and also make a side deck and add some solid going second choices like Nibiru, maybe some Kaiju’s or lava golem’s. Yes I recommended some going second stuff for the main deck, but you want something for going second just in case you lose that dice roll. But if you don’t you can use those going second spells as free draws with souls or discard fodder for Dragoon I do have some other suggestions. Let me know if you’d like some more input.

This guy said bump DMG up to 2??? Lol he's trying to make you brick. Even DM to 3 would be a better suggestion since Circle can add it and it has better Fusions. The problem with Illusion of Chaos to 3 is it's a HOPT, so if you draw 2, it's basically useless until next turn unless you can Ritual Summon it. Instead, to add the same level of consistency, add a 3rd Preparation of Rites. Because Illusion can always shuffle itself back (you'd have to go through all copies of Rod and Souls and Apprentice, Magikuriboh, etc to not be able to), plus you can send duplicate Preparation of Rites to the GY for Souls effect to draw more cards. If you want, you can add in Sauravis as another card to search from Preparation of Rites if you find Veiler and Impermanence annoying since it seems like you might just basically end your turn if Rod gets negated.

@@Goblin_Handsno. Actual ratio is 2 DM, 2 DMG, 2 Apprentice, 3 Souls, 3 Rod, 3 Illusion, 1 Timaeus, & Mahad for the Branded engine. The list came from Konami itself and why would it brick IF YOU HAVE ALLURE OF DARKNESS? You players are jokes.

Pure means you only play DM cards, it isn't a pure DM deck.. Few flaws 1 deck is too small for draw and search pwr less cards hurts the potency of the deck,too reliant on handtraps,skill drain hurts it more than helps it(evenly matched or imperm are better options)major weakness omni to spell negate, if that happens deck has no recovery options,no backrow protection or removal. Extra deck is ok bit too realent on fusion summoning though drives home the point if threy have omni spell negate your extra deck is pretty much useless.

I disagree on your definition of "pure". By that logic, Kaibaman's Blue-Eyes deck isn't pure solely because he included a copy of Pot of Greed. There is either Pure or Hybridized/mixed decks. This deck's only main deck engine and victory condition requires DM and it's support so it is about as pure as you can get, even the extra deck is pretty much pure somehow. If you made the deck better, it would be less pure. Deck's don't become hybrid decks because traps and hand traps are thrown in. These generic cards aren't even engines or victory conditions, just 1 for 1's or help you play your engine/stop the opponent. Nobody is going around saying they have half x deck/half hand trap deck, because hand traps aren't a win condition except maybe Nibiru or the opponent surrenders. However, I agree with your assessment that the deck is far from optimized as most decks are.

~40 cards in a DM deck is ideal in my experience. Soul Servant/Illusion have plenty of search power to get whatever card you need to continue your combo, and as little cards as possible increase your chances of drawing what you need to continue or drawing Soul/Chaos when needed. More cards hurts the potency. E V E R Y deck is reliant on handtraps, if you let your opponent full combo for free, DM loses 99% of the time. You can be cheeky with Skill Drain because the draw effect of Magicians' Souls can remove it from the field on your turn. I've completely locked opponents out for two of their turns because I started with two Skill Drains and got Souls. Dragoon and DM the Dragon Knight protect the back row just fine. Dragoon and Dark Magical Circle allow two pops per turn if unhindered. Three if you work Red-Eyes B. Dragon into the deck to fuse to Dragoon. I agree, this guy's extra deck is pretty lacking but "Too reliant on fusion summoning?" Branded relies on fusions and that is a very potent engine with DM, or at least as potent as DM can be compared to meta.

imo a pure deck is just a deck that mainly uses the engine of that deck to do its plays, and if its playing outside archetype cards; they are used for your archetypes plays rather than a dif archetypes plays, and its related to the deck in some way. an example of this is red-eyes black meteor dragon and red-eyes fusion. meteor is used to send dark magician to the graveyard, and then be link, xyz, or fusion material along side dm cards for dm lines of play, then later in the duel it banishes itself to grab red eyes fusion which makes dragoon, and dragoon is why they are related to dm since its a dark magician boss monster that also relates to the red eyes archetype, because dark magician is the only required material.

@@Goblin_Handsat that point in time it was a staple in every characters deck, that's also the anime so that's not really making a point. Yugi never ran ash blossom lol so it has no connection to the series or deck. It's not a problem he runs these most players do but it doesn't make it "pure", pure means cards solely tied to the character or deck and you can disagree with me if you want. That's your rightful opinion but to me a Pure DM deck is all cards are related to the character or the deck Arc-type. Dragoon is fine because it's tied to both DM and Red Eyes.
