Very cool and interesting concept for a series! Would you be interested in making a series or video about the win32 api in which you show how to use windows controls and such things?

Does Microsoft have a Win32 API C programming cookbook and a C programming primitives user's manual that microsoft insiders use to write Windows C programs?
@MorningSkyMay3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing...

I don't know what insiders use, but normal users use msdn, which has a pretty decent description of many APIs

@@stewartzayat7526 I don't know what kind of programmer you are, but here is an example of how crappy msdn documentation is for beginner programmers.Forget everything thing that you know about Windows programming. Now write a win32 c language empty project program. The program should be able to save and open a file. The purpose of the program is to write a program that take input from the user that generates notes for a piano simulator using the built-in windows midi library. You should be able to save the user's input and output as well reloading it into the program. Please only use msdn and don't call upon other programmers to help you program this project. Please note that this is a bare bone project, which you can make as complicated or as simple as you want. The purpose of this project is to point out that without a programmer's cookbook, it is virtually impossible to write a Windows application. That being said, this is why Boeing 737s crash and hard drives lock up. Happy programming.

I imagine that a DLL injector would indeed trip many antivirus programs for good reason, especially with exe and dll files. I would love to see a tutorial that goes into great detail with creating win32 gui apps in general and special sections about common controls, dialogs, the common dialogs and creating custom controls.

I can do that. I have to warn you though - doing WinAPI GUI by hand in C is of course totally possible, but it is VERY tedious. So keeping the episode interesting is going to be a challenge!

There is still a very good book available for that: Programming Windows (Developer Reference) (English Edition) Petzold it's from 1999 but still, that'll do!

Very Interesting. You make it look easy. I'm wondering if I can craft a new dll to extract more info that is happening in a 3rd party app. I'd like to add additional logging for said 3rd party app. I also wonder if the privilege problem is causing the error the third party app has trying to open another app that has a different architecture like 32 bit app opening 64 bit word via com, or opening 64 bit fax software.

Interesting stuff. I guess this is how in the game CS 1.6 someone found a way to add an overlayered aiming crosshair, which I think was a DLL. Anyway I learned a thing or two about Unicode. 😀
@ryanries093 жыл бұрын
It's quite possible. I remember playing CS back when it was just a mod for Half-Life, back in the '90s. Ahh, things were so much simpler back then. :)

The only thing you need to know about Unicode is that no C nor Windows can properly work with it. 😢

Does anyone out there know if visual studio comes with a midi musical instrument library that programmers can use to compose music with visual studio?
