i'm assuming the Mirage backstory for April's true origin is no longer considered canon because that is truly messed up; to find out that you aren't technically real and are just a living drawing is truly dark.

I mean... it is kinda canon for Mirage? Because it's vol.4. But I am pretty sure no one in their mind *considers* cockroaches orgies as canon. I want to think of vol.4 as same as vol.3- it's a fever dream. Classic TMNT are Tales, Vol.1 and Turtle Soup. Maybe Vol.2, but I kinda don't like it neither. If you mean canon by now, then obviously no, since IDW is entirely different universe.

The story is by the original creator (Peter Laird) and It's canon in Mirage TMNT. And it's not out of place at all, OG TMNT was always a dark and wierd series with things like the revived worm Shredder and the unsuccessful clones, or Splinter committing cannibalism in City at War, etc. Or even The River storyline, which is technically not canon, but it was the part of the original Mirage run. The horror element was always there.

By far a few dark moments I remember from my childhood from 2012 are, 1) Splinter’s vision/nightmare of Rat king- “Darkest plight” 2) Jei kills all of the turtles- “Osoroshi no Tabi” 3) Earth’s destruction- “Annihilation: Earth: Part 2” 4) The Thing draining Raph’s mutagen- “Within the woods” 5) April scatters Donnie- “The power inside her” These moments stood out to me the most in 2012 but they’re not the only five, there are definitely more.

Fun fact Raph getting demutated is from the original comics, issues 24-26... but the villain was called Bloodsucker. But it was Rick Veitch, not Laird or Eastman, who created that villain so knockoffs were made to avoid having to pay royalties. So instead of Bloodsucker we now have Wyrm and the Thing thing

I mentioned this on the previous video, but in the original Mirage comics, Casey accidentally kills a kid and is _heavily_ tormented psychologically by it for pretty much the remainder of the original Vol. 1 run.

The last story is the only one I hadn't seen myself and it's been described to me in a derogatory way by friends who explained what it said about April's origins... I'm pretty amazed now that they skipped over the cockroaches and the vanishing babies.

That mutant creature in the 2012 series was officially called "Chimera" by Donnie after the monster from Greek mythology because it was three different animals fused together by the mutagen: a falcon, a fish and a worm. Mikey was the one who had thought of calling it "Turducken" because he was a dork. And yes, that was pretty disturbing. How many people had Chimera already killed and eaten before it fought Team Turtle?

*Spoiler Alert in this comment* I actually consider that Shredder's deth in TMNT 2012 is much darker than in TMNT 2003. Not only the fact that this wasn't a robot and we all knew it, if I remember correctly Leonardo even held Shredder's head when he decapitated him.

while the show is overall really lighthearted I can't help but think of the rise of the tmnt scene where shredder ruins their lair. I know it happens in the other versions as well but there's just sumn about how this one's done. All of Donnie tech being destroyed, Raph learning being leader is possibly not it for him with all the pressure, splinter and draxum staying behind to fight the shredder, them all watching Karai die right in front of them, idk man. It's heartbreaking. And everything after that like Raph's mental breakdown. Not different from other versions you could say but just seeing this version of the characters in these situations is really dark.Great stuff.

Even though TMNT is a Franchise marketed for Kids,in reality is has some of the Darkest Moments you wouldn't believe it existed,also can you put on the next Video Baxter Stockman's suffering in TMNT 2003,Scarecrow's Illusionation on Leonardo,Leonardo fears in 3 Episodes of 2012,April losing control to the point that Donny disappeared from Almost Existence,Splinter being Mind Controlled and losing his Sanity in 3 Episodes with the Rat King in 2012,Leo defeating Super Shredder once and for all,Bebop and Rocksteady killing Donatello,the Fugitoid's Origin in 2012,the Krang Mutating New York,Karai becoming a Mutant,losing her Sanity,and being Brainwashed,the Fast Forward Episode when everyone becomes into Night Monsters,Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki Rivalry that leads to the Death of Tang Shen in 2012 being in my opinion the Darkest Origin Story of Yoshi and Saki,the Triceratons winning in 2012,the Crystal Event in 2003,Casey Jones Backstory in 2003,April's Mother in 2012,Rahzar's Death by Leatherhead,Slash beating up the Turtles one by one so that Raphael could be his Partner,Tigerclaw and Alopex Backstory,Alopex's Origin in the Comics,Fugitoid losing himself by Technology with his Friends in 2012,Armaggon's Death in 2012,everyone thinking that Mikey's Death in 2012,Leatherhead's Backstory in both 2003 and 2012,The Grandmaster's Son demise in 2003,Pizzaface,the Demodragon events,the Mad Max Apocalyptic World in 2012,Mutagen Man in 2012,the Fly Transformation in 2012.and I think that's about it and yes I'm a huge Turtle Fan myself so don't Challenge or Test Me.

Goddamn, Mirage April... I can't find a way to express into words what she went though being horrible, especially given the time passage in the comics mentions weeks to months, she probably spent so long as a cockroach I wouldn't doubt if by some magic fuckery and they had their human lifespan still, their minds would be so warped they wouldn't want to change back especially since she already gave into instincts. Worst part is since she uh... Mated with cockroaches... She most likely has offspring of her own.

Thanks for this amazing content as well you truly know how to please a TMNT fans. We are definitely need this cuz the turtles are truly amazing and deserve to to shine just like these Marvel and DC superheroes. A lot of people only know about their stories on what they see on the Animated Series but they don't know about the comic lore and how dark these characters could be. I don't know if you put this on the list but Casey Jones backstory is very dark. The story about how he was affected when the Purple Dragons and Hun burnt down his family business and k**led his father then seriously beat him as well. It was kind of similar to the 03 TMNT series. And the other story about Casey and what happened to Shadow Jones mom. And the Crystal that belongs to Kirby was also was in the 2013 TMNT series giving a nod to April's backstory.
