I loved the film, and it was actually remarkably close to the comics considering that it was hampered by having to take place in the film universe. A mission in space where Jean sacrifices herself, absorbs a cosmic force, dies and comes back? Getting rejected by her father in her childhood home, leading to her attacking the X-Men? Joining a sinister Inner Circle in opulent NYC and fighting the X-Men before 'waking' and striking out on her own? The X-Men lose the fight against more powerful aliens who want to kill Jean, causing Phoenix to re-awaken and defeat the aliens before sacrificing herself to save the world from Phoenix? This all happened, just in different ways, in the comics, despite how the MCU interfered in the film's ending, and how they didn't have access to the Hellfire Club or Mastermind because of previous films. It was even kind of genius to have the villains be the D'Bari, coming from a planet that Phoenix destroyed, as the godfather of all Dark Phoenix Easter Eggs. In the comics, Vuk is a surviving D'Bari leader who comes for Jean. I wish they'd taken more time to develop the D'Bari as better villains, but... This movie wasn't perfect, it did have its problems - including pacing, and just feeling kind of rushed, and while I thought McAvoy acted the hell out of Charles's facing his own ego I didn't like that they revisited The Last Stand's story of him interfering in Jean's childhood - but it was far, far better than the critics said and if you're a real fan of the comics you can see how hard Kinberg was struggling to retain the original story with the circumstances he was in. For me, it was a great place to leave these films before the inevitable reboot a few years from now.

Legion is by far one of the best shows on tv...it sucks it’s coming to an end, it’s an incredible X-men adaptation/vision. If you haven’t watched it & are an X-men/Legion fan, I HIGHLY recommend it, it’s just so beautifully done. Noah Hawley is a genius & as a fan I’m thrilled with what he’s done. It’s so much better than the majority of the X-men stories we’ve got. I wanted to like Dark Phoenix.....I really did, it’s one of my favorite stores & it turned out to be trash. The writing & directing was awful & the story was all over the place. This story alone should’ve been at least 3 movies long. This should’ve been an origin story (I know its impossible with the studio bullshit) don’t even get me started on how screwed up the timeline is. It’s a shame this is how the current story goes out.

I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. It’s far from perfect, but it was fun and the final train sequence was pretty good considering it wasn’t the original ending. From the beginning, this movie was never gonna be great though because they didn’t build up Jean Grey enough for the audience to care about her turn to darkness.

In this universe Magneto was born in 1930, making him about 62 years old in 1992. Xavier was born two years later so 60 for him. Raven was born in '34, she's 58. Hank McCoy is 52. And so on. The timeline makes no sense as they all look the same in all the movies. BIG suspension of disbelief = BAD writing. At least for the last two movies as the first two are only eight years apart.

Honestly, the way I see it, Patrick Stewart made Xavier likeable. This Xavier is painfully similar to a good deal of his comic persona, & I was surprised they pulled it off (in a good way.) Stuff like that felt so close to the comic storyline; even though the circumstances were different, the HEART was there, man! That ending was a huge detriment to the flow of making this story work. I don't doubt it was a quick patch-job, which sucks, because Captain Marvel was such an inferior film to have to change it for. With the merger happening, though, there wasn't any saving Dark Phoenix no matter who likes what movie better. Everyone lost in the end but Disney.

(IMO) The Phoenix Force itself should be developed in galactic movies such as “Captain Marvel”, “GOTG”, and hopefully “Nova”. While other Mutants should be involved in more grounded movies in the MCU. I prefer that, over another solo X-Men movie. With these Mutants, the universe should be feel bigger and broader before the X-Men could get their own movie again. Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse should’ve been 2 part movies, if the timelines weren’t so convoluted.
