It's not exactly a thing you just "know" to begin with. You either open the shortcut first, which costs a lot of time and simply isn't worth it, or you cast a vague spell, which you only knew to do because you knew that the bug behind the door can be killed that way, which you only know is the solution to the problem because you looked it up. The issue with dark souls, and fromsoft games in general, is that the sidequests and solutions are extremely poorly hinted at. I understand not wanting to "hold hands", but their quest design is simply ridiculous. Not even a LITTLE hint?
