1/30/2016 glitch works. the timing is everything. you have to use the item you're trying to dupe close to the end of the animation then go to the menu to dupe it. Thanks for the glitch man!

This functions with any animation. If you're doing this for souls, you can use use the animation of one soul, into another, and continuously. Nevermind, he mentions it in the video.

+MrQuelquDeux I didn't yet try the soul dupe,but from what I heard from the other speedrunners,it's hard and inconsistent,needs keyboard.I also watched Distortion2's WR today and little to no duping in there.He did use the fall control/quit out glitch though which is the same as in DS1 XDNo idea how that can be in there.Do they actually not watch a single speedrun of their own games?Exactly the same glitch as in DS1,FROM please ;)

+PeachyMike Yes you are right. I did watch some of the current WR by Distortion2, and I expected the glitch, but he did say it was not worth it. Execution is too hard, and there is no time for it. As the glitch is basically the same as in DS1, I expected to see it in speedruns. Yet, there's surprisingly not that much waiting time. When waiting for doors to open, Distortion2 did a lot of quit outs. And there's very few elevators. Instead he uses the spell to fall with no damage, or prefer to cast a spell or a buff in the elevator rather than trying the glitch. As for the quit out glitch, it's even more insane. Used during doors, ennemy replacement, avoiding death, and even teleportation. There's a moment in the run that if I understood well (it was 3AM when I watched it), he jumps down to another area to die there, then quits at the exact moment he dies, and when he comes back he is alive but down after the fall. I'll have to rewatch that cause that seems unreal. What I don't understand is that most of those glitches were missing in DS2 and Bloodborne. And From used the Bloodborne engine for DS3. Yet all the glitches from DS1 are back... But also different. They are not exactly the same, but very close. It's almost like if they said "it can't be a Souls game without a dupe glitch. Let's put one in there that looks like the one in Dark Souls 1. We won't even have to patch it." Anyway, I'm pretty sure speedrunners will eventually find a use for the dupe though. DS2's dupe glitch was even more complicated and yet still appeared in some runs and categories. Maybe runners that don't quit out will prefer to dupe. Well I hope to see a category like that at least. Because Distortion2 came back to the main menu like 30 times in one run. It does save a lot. 30×2 seconds each time saves a whole minute. But for viewers it kinda breaks the rhythm of the run. For me at least.

+MrQuelquDeux Hmm yeah the moment where he falls in a hole and spawns alive at the bottom,that's the fall control glitch,same glitch they use in DS1 speedruns to save tons of time.Use fall control,fall down anywhere where there isn't a kill box till you hit the ground,then quit out at the right moment (touch the ground) and you're alive and well at the bottom when you load back in lolI've seen even crazier shit today though,on discord in the speedsouls group.Ela (Elajjaz) fell (intentionally) down the map somewhere (just watched a little bit so didn't really see the location) and spawned way down,IN the Old King bossroom for some reason.And remember,fall control glitch is still only just being tested out now cause PC version is new,and some things are different.I think there's a patch coming up today or tomorrow,lets see what they're gonna do :PI heard the weapon they speedrun with (astora straight sword) is one of the things being patched,but I bet they won't patch fall control glitch XDBut to be honest,I kinda see no problem with that particular glitch in all bosses for example.It just shortens the time running past enemies for a bit,the viewer doesn't really miss much :)And the quitouts at doors,they're alright imo.I don't think they take much longer than opening the door,load times are pretty good.Unlike when they did it in Bloodborne,when the loading times where like 30 secs every time.I didn't even watch runs anymore.And the dupe glitch,it would probably get used already,if raw infusion wasn't so strong.Noone needs poins in dex or str atm,just go raw and put everything in end and vgr.Anyway,lets see what the patch brings ;)

PeachyMike Thanks for the details ! I didn't know it worked the same in DS1. I knew about the Gwyn skip in the old any%, but I didn't know about the fall control glitch to teleport and avoid death. Probably why it blew my mind. I definitly aim at watching Elajjaz's PB. I love that guy, I was just waiting for his times to get a bit closer to the WR. Cool to hear he brought something new to the table, that isn't in the WR yet. And yeah, I think 1.04 is coming today, but I don't know if it's a game update, or just the servers. The game update should not be long to arrive if it's not it. But I might be wrong and maybe it's the game update. My point on quit outs is just my opinion. I just feel like staying in the game (even if it's just to wait there for the doors to open), helps to keep the rhythm of the run for viewers like me. I totally understand that it saves a lot of time though. So obviously it's important to do. I just wish the quit outs were not as major in the mechanics of this speedrun. For Bloodborne for example, I only watched some All Bosses runs, but I feel like there wasn't nearly as much quit outs as in DS3, that's why it was okay to wait so long during the loading times (they were patched, but it was still longuer than here I think). I might be wrong, I didn't watch one in a while. That's just my opinion though. And I totally understand that other people don't mind the high amount of quit outs !

Still works on PC! Just swing weapon and before it finishes animation PRESS USE button and then right after HOLD START button all before move ends. Then use darksign and if it says you'll loose souls, then don't use.

This shouldn't be called an "item duplication" glitch. It's more of an "infinite uses of certain items" glitch. Not as catchy, but item duplication implies you're creating more, but you're not. You're effectively making the game think you never used the item. Although, it's funny, I'm going through the game with the Dragon Head glitch (reverting back to 1.00), and this glitch isn't possible, so clearly something they patched cause this glitch to be created.

This glitch still works atleast on PC as of 10/22/2015 One thing that isnt clarified that wel in the video is that the item you are attempting to duplicate has to be an item with a yes/no prompt when you attempt to use it so a normal soul of a lost undead wont work because it has no yes/no prompt when you attempt to use it but boss souls homeword bones firekeeper souls all work because they ask if you want to use them

Damn :/ its not working for me . I'm trying to do it on the Xbox and doing a slow roll, and pushing X towards the middle part of the rolling animation then opening my menu and using my flask but It won't ever show the confirmation of using the soul. Not sure what I'm missing

Been getting a lot of similar comments lately,all on xbox so seems to be a problem with it on that :/ If you do a slow roll,you need to do it at the end of the animation.Try out when is too late,so when it just gives you the option to use the soul before you can open the menu.Then try doing it just before that so very late.If it works,that's the way to do it then.Press X and then start quickly right at the end of the animation as late as it allows you to.Let me know,cause it's strange how all of a sudden xboxs players have a problem with it while PS3/PC players don't ...

Chigga King_420 perform an action like a roll or a backstep and during the animation use item you want to replicate (you wont get a message during this but its working) then press start and use the darksign if you did it right it will ask you if you want to use the first item, if not you get the darksign message. Good luck to you. quick edit: when you do the animation its best to wait a quick second before pressing the use button and then press start to do darksign

***** No,but when you have the dupe glitch down,and you want to heal,you can quickly dupe a firekeeper soul :P That heals you and puts 5 humanity in your counter (and it raises defenses and resistances) so there's no real need for humanity anymore.you can hold on to the humanity you pick up in case you wanna use one quickly but,no need to farm any imo when you can dupe a firekeeper soul

I've been trying to get this to work for a little while now and I've already wasted a few homeward spells by going too fast, but if I load up the menu in between before it finished it just asks me[when using the Darksign] if I want to use all of my souls and humanity as if I were using the Darksign. Not patched yesterday,should work. It's a timing thing,hit start right after "X" or whatever button uses an item for you,then find the right timing to do that.If you use a parry,you don't have to wait so parry,press "X" and then start to open the menu right away. If you use a slower animation,do all this towards the end of the animation. The idea is to que up the usage of the soul,or homeward bone/firekeeper soul late enough so the game ques it up when you go into the menu.if you do it too early,it won't get que'd up and you'll just use the item in the menu instead. So play around with the timing a bit,you'll get it eventually

Use a shield instead of rolling or weapon swinging. Parry with a shield and right at the end of the parry(before you draw your arm back), press X/Square and immediately press start. Then select dark sign, if you select the wrong thing in the menu, you have to restart because it won't work if you back off of an item.

+wayward Well as I still watch DS1 speedruns,I can assure you it still works the same.It's harder with a female ( twohand with those,but even then there's areas where it mysteriously will not work with a female) so start a male character and try with various animations is the best tip I can give you as timing is important and maybe you lost that a bit.

It took me a bit. But after some practice i get it almost everytime. But now i feel bad because it undermines the entire point of the game. If you want to do it though i suggest you do a heavy roll the press the use button followed immediately by start. Than select the darksign. If it says lose all souls and humanity you were either too early or didn't press use at all. If you get a prompt to use the item before you open the menu, you were too late. If you did it right then when using the darksign it will ask if you want to use the item instead of the normal lose all souls prompt. (The darksign will NOT kill you if you do this.) Remember this only works on items that have a yes or no prompt when you attempt to use it.

Well,if you overuse this glitch,the game gets too easy indeed,that's why people shouldn't use it in their first playthroughs,they'll miss out on the rewarding feeling of making it on your own eventually. It's a great glitch to create PvP builds with though and try new things.For me,i have a busy job and don't have all the time in the world anymore to farm for hours just to create a PvP build that in the end isn't what I expected,so by using this glitch at least things like that go fast,and you don't waste a lot of fun PvP time :) I don't play this game anymore though,Dark Souls 2 FTW ;)

Several people commented about the same,but as far as i know all of them got it to work eventually so lets see :) First of all,try with a male character,it doesn't go so well with females,although it works too. Then get 99 homeward bones to practice. When you have those,put on some heavy armor.Then to practice this,try rolling.It's very easy with a fatroll :) So roll,hit the button that uses the item in the item slot (the homeward bone) about halfway through the roll,then immediatly hit pause. Then use the estus instead,it doesn't have to be darksign and when you're at a bonfire it doesn't matter.It works with empty estus too btw. That should work,try it.If it doesn't work,try "using" the item in the item slot a bit later,then hit pause and proceed.It's just a timing thing,but with fatroll or midroll most people seem to find it easiest. Hope it helps :)

yep,instead of the roll or parry or swing,you can use the animation of the soul popping after the first dupe,works fine :) You do need to be a bit more careful then to not use the soul. At 4:19 I actually do that,slowly even so,not hard :)

It should still work.Maybe try with a parry,or different weapons.Read the advice I gave the others here,It's been so long since I played DS1 so it's hard for me to remember the exact timing I did it with. But with a parry you can't be too quick normally so try parry,hit X or whatever button uses an item for you (B on xbox?I forgot :P) then right after hit start and in the menu you can take your time.Use estus to practice,close to a bonfire so you don't lose anything

It does not work on XBOX 360. You will not have the option to use item, they cross it off for that reason.

***** I am sorry, but this is not true! I just used this glitch myself moments ago on my Xbox 360. I go up to a wall and parry with a regular shield. When I see the sparks, I press X and then Start on my Soul, I use the Binoculars right after the parry animation finishes, and I am asked to use the Soul. I can confirm this works. This is also much faster then farming the foes in teh Forest Covenant.

Yesterday someone confirmed that it still works yes.Try to que the soul later in the animation (maybe use a parry,since you're too quick anyway it seems) so it gets que'd for sure,then hit start quickly after that,and try and see what it does.Once you have que'd up the soul and hit start before game asks you to use the soul,you should be good.It's a timing thing,a lot of people said the same thing you say but,eventually they come back and say "Hey it does work!" lol Hopefully same for you ;)

And read chileperson98's comments,those are from yesterday,he says he did it on xbox with slow roll,towards the end of a roll. But any animation should work so just try it at the end of an action

It's been so long since I did it,playing DS2... But it should go like this: Do something (maybe the parry animation as you can't be too quick then),then hit the button to use the soul or bone and go into menu right away (before the parry animation is finished).Then use an estus to do the glitch to be safe.if you get the use item confirmation you should be good. I remember it's not so hard,but getting it the first time takes some practice with the timing. But like I said,it's been a while since I did it.It still works though

2/24/2016 Still working on 360, just duped Soul of the Moonlight Butterfly. If you're having trouble on a female character, remember to 2 hand your weapon. and remember this only works with items that give a yes/no option to use, ie. boss souls, fire keeper souls, homeward bone, etc.

I think this has been patched out. I can do this with the homeward bone, but if I try it with humanities or souls, it just continues using the item while in my inventory. EDIT: nevermind, it works with anything that has a confirmation box, like boss souls. I was trying with normal souls lol

I started a female character for the first time and I've been unable to perform an item dupe (even though I can do it consistently on male characters). Is there some specific trick for female characters?

It's confusing lol,when I said it didn't work on female characters some people told me it does work.And indeed,on my PS3 it does,but then again, in some areas it doesn't. And for some people it works everywhere,for some people it doesn't work at all with a female while they have no problem with a male. So all I can say is,it's weird and no idea why it is like that :P

Yep,still works.Try it at a bonfire and use estus flasks,that's the easiest way cause that's the first item in inventory. It requires a bit of timing but it's an easy gltich though once you get it once. Maybe I didn't explain it as good as I could,but it's harder to explain than it is actually doing it :P So you just need to swing weapon (or roll,or parry even,that also works),then hit the button to use the item you want to use (probably after about 3/4th of the swing),so the game buffers that.Then right before the text pops up just press start,just before the swing ends.Then use an item from the menu and it should work. When it doesn't work it's usually when you do a swing,and press the button to "use" the item too soon,then it takes too long for the swing to end and it doesn't buffer the next thing so it just does what you chose in the menu afterwards. Just try with different weapons (or a parry) to find the timing,you'll get it eventually. Oh and are you trying with a female character?I heard something about some glitches not working with female characters lol,but I forgot all about that,didn't even try :P So if that's the case,try with a male character and let me know please,I need to really make a note in the video somewhere then :P

The New Me actually, even if i basically press the button on the LAST FRAME of the animation before it uses it, it still doesn't work for me, that is to say, i'm two-handing the same weapon you are, i'm a male character, and i'm pressing use soul/start even later than you are, and it's still just drinking estus instead of using the item, or the start menu doesn't open and i just use the item without duping it i've also been trying this for the better part of an hour now... hasn't worked even once... this is either EXTREMELY difficult... or patched... or i'm just doing it wrong and your explanation is incorrect... what i've resorted to doing is: attack/whatever mash the FUCK out of the use item button until a few frames before the end press start as fast as possible after that mash the crap out of A to use an estus flask as soon as possible after that half the time my timing is off and i use the item i'm trying to dupe the other half the time i use an estus flask so yeah... it doesn't work, i've tried the catalyst, the zweihander, the morning glory, with and without shield, one-handed and two-handed, fire keeper's soul as well as homeward bones, and NONE of them work

Sirius Black I dunno why it doesn't work for you,it seems to work for everyone else... I meanwhile saw it on all versions,so dunno what to say... When start menu doesn't open and you use the item that's cause you're too late with the start menu,so try perhaps doing it quicker...But it shoulda worked at least once just by accident now if you tried a lot so,all I can say is : Weird... The New Me well i get the feeling part of it has to do with windows 8... i've been having weird-ass stuff happening with dark souls ever since i installed it, ranging from xbox controller getting mis-mapped (dpad down not doing anything, RB being mapped to start, B only working when exiting menu's), to agression mod having enemies aggro to eachother instead of me, so i guess this isn't anything to be surprised about

lol that's a bit silly ;) You can be as slow as you like after you hit pause,you can keep it paused for half an hour if you want :P So as long as you make sure you hit pause nothing can go wrong :P I must admit,happened to me also though,trying to be too quick to get them souls ;)
