+Snoopy Artorias wielded the shield in the right hand and the sword in the left hand. Item descriptions in the game can deduce that he was a lefty and was highly likely the most skilled swordsman in the service of Gwyn. Before falling to the darkness completely he left his shield with Sif to guard her from the darkness and broke his sword arm in order for him to be taken down by those that would come after.

If you pay attention the shield Sif gives you is completely broken, meaning that the arm he used his shield was the left arm the one who got blown by the impact, and if you pay attention to Artorias armor his left arm has more protection since its the arm for shielding (like the Elite Knight Armor) but the Majestic Greatsword in Dark Souls 2 states the sword's previous owner were all left handed, but who knows, in Drangleic everything is myth, if we consider the chosen undead as a wielder he is actually right handed. But you know, in Dark Souls you make your own story.

I remember when I first fought this boss. On my winning attempt I was totally pumped in the fight, I was so exited to know I was winning and I was enjoying myself until I actually killed him. He let out a horrible scream when he died and it immediately kind of brought me to a somber state. I didn’t have some epic duel against a willing knight. I killed a struggling man who was barely alive in the first place. The scream really got to me.

Same bro. I lost for like 2hrs. one day on NG+3. Then, i came back the next day, and the first fight that day I beat him for the first time. I was in a flow state. I was having so much fun shielding, dodging, and slashing. Then, i killed him and yelled on my last attack. And then, i heard HIM scream. Lmao, it completely quieted mine, and I immediately felt sad. Also, like i had just peaked in boss battles.

Sonicmasterxyz, That's worthless and limited to a temporary time frame. Poise as it existed previously was removed in an effort to make the game more like Bloodborne but it fails at doing that due to the slower combat of the PC while enemies are Bloodborne-esque. As a result, Bloodborne remains superior. If they wanted Bloodborne 2, they should have made that instead of making a Souls game just to appeal to fanservice with a linear world, harming the replayabiliy that the series is known for.

Grunkle Havel ring and favor&protection ring and you will scroll like a ninja with havel armour. I killed him with havel armour+zweithander+artorias shield soooo easy

It's not about dodging...I have beaten him with my endurance build and blocked every hit of his including his triple-combos + backflip at once with a black knight's shield +2 with ornstein's armor for mobility WITHOUT havel's ring. Sif and Magnus were also easy with this shield. For Gwyn, I had to upgrade it to +5 to be able to block all his atacks + to get spare stamina to hit him back. It might be the easiest way to beat the game, a lot of endurance points and a good shield. Black knight shield is the best in my oppinion because of low weight, fire-resistance 95% and you can also parry with it.

Louaios he was the first to take arms to defend it too, his lore is very moving just like artorias' was. ornstein actually is similar to the two as well now that im really thinking about it with him being faithful to the nameless king in ds3. i think they're the most valiant of all of the bosses and characters in the game... but the ivory king's armor set is and always will be my favorite. i actually main'd the IK set with artorias' sword in ds2 which made for pretty good fashion souls screenshots

It's not, actually. Artorias' gravestone is guarded by Sif, and Sif's bossfight is where Elizabeth is in the DLC (Sanctuary Garden). That bridge after leaving the area? is the one leading to Sif in Darkroot. Maybe his tomb was moved, maybe Sif is guarding more of representative tomb or something idk.

That is true and I cannot explain it. Maybe the place he died was inteded to be where you fight Sif and it was an oversight of them? Because you can clearly see the resemblance on the entrance to Sif's arena and Sanctuary Garden, yet Artorias' arena is a long way from there. I could comment on the sword's size but... well, Sif also got bigger. Things get big for no reason in the Dark Souls universe. And the body with the ring is most like Ciaran too... it does look like an oversight.

Ramsey Bolton Havel's set is meant to make you a poise tank, dishing out high DPS while withstanding what the enemy is putting out. A spear is usually used for 1 handing with a shield to attack from safety, and has low DPS and poise damage. In addition, since he's 2 handing in heavy armor, he should've had the GCS on his back, if not getting rid of the shield entirely. He's basically doing the "student of all, matter of none" approach, and it wouldn't have lasted on anything but the first NG.

Just fought him for the first time today. Not knowing his backstory too well I think it was sad that he as well as Sif, his faithful companion, had to be slain in order too progress. Amazing how your first playthrough you cheer after beating a boss and the next you are saddened because you now know who they where and what led them to that moment. The beauty and despair of Dark Souls.

Knight Artorias is my favorite fight in DS1 and like, my favorite overall character in the series. Rocked that armor and Wolf knight gs in 3 as soon as I could get it. Helps that his and Sif's story is one of the most tragic ones too

Honestly estus healing in ds1 and ds3 was pure cancer. Even with the addition of life gems in DS2, I found the slower healing of estus and life gems to be vastly better balanced.

my favorite battle of the entire game, it made me feel the same feeling that I felt the first time I played the game, because the battle is not about going strong into combat, it is about being as fast as Artorias because if you don't attack in the right moments, Artorias will take advantage of the opportunity to take a lot of life from you, in addition to preventing him from doing that charged attack, otherwise he will get stronger and do more damage, that combination of damage and speed makes him almost invincible, a very good boss that puts test everything you have learned during the game

This fight becomes so fun if you do it with lil poise and armor. Yeah I died alot at first but when I got use to his moves, the fight was intense and it was almost like choreography. Also that adrenaline rush lol

Honestly Artorias was pretty easy for me, but I enjoyed his battle so much I quit right after he died and restarted solely so I could go back and fight him again. I've fought Artorias at least 40 times since. Always love the big guy.

I'd argue that's a downside of modern Souls: everything's gotta be fast and flippy and use big anime-esque moves. Artorias was cool 'cause he was a unique entity in that, maybe alongside Gwyn as well. Now it's just the norm, and even faster with way more moves.

There's unused dialogue for Artorias but I'm glad they omitted it from the game. It makes Artorias more of a tragic character. A knight who sacrificed his body and humanity to save a friend.

I remember this fight took me around 35mins, was light rolling with Heater Shield and Ligthning Uchigatana, just slowly chipping away at his health. One hit after he did every combo, never felt more proud of myself for defeating the Legendary Sir Artorias
