I know this is pretty late, but I just wanted to say that there is a good reason for any quality build to take 45 dex for pyro speed. At 45 dex, you can combo kick into black flame/great combustion, and you'll cast fast enough that other players are still staggered from the kick when you finish casting.

I've read that dexterity impacts pyromancy speed in a weird way, in that it does so at specific "tiers." 45 is the highest tier, and each tier mainly applies to pyromancy spells of certain speeds. You get the highest impact on the slowest spells first at lower dexterity, and then as you hit certain benchmarks in dexterity, pyromancy spells of higher casting speeds start seeing more of a benefit. At the tippy top, are the spells that are already pretty fast even at the base level (like combustion or fireball), and I think those are the ones that you need to get to 45 to make faster. In the video, it looks like the test was conducted with Great Chaos Fireball, which is more of a medium casting speed than anything. If that's all you were going to cast, then 40 is indeed probably just fine. I'd be curious to see what the difference between 25, 32, and 40 are. In this build, I think the 40 is right on target. If you wanted to alter it to make a speedy fire ninja or something, though, 45 might still be worth it because your combustions and fireball casting will get an edge. I think it all depends on how pyro-heavy your character is gonna be and what kind of diversity of spells that you intend to cast. If you wanted to have a lot of casts on hand and use it more often, it would also mean more attunement, which I guess is off-topic and another build. 🙂 ATM I'm working on a different sort of quality build, but with a heavier lean into pyromancy and less of a focus on physical (I did go to 45 dex, but stopped at 27 STR and used some levels to get 8 attunement slots instead). It's been fun to play so far ... kind of like a Flame Knight. :-) I've got a Black Knight Sword +5 and also a Demon's Spear +5 at the moment, which I swap between, and a couple of favorite shields I swap between. Lots of duplicate fireballs and orbs for range -- I'm lovin' it. Fire Whip got me through Super-Smough, and Great Chaos Fireball helped me take down Ornstein before that. I think my build is almost half fire damage, which has been a blast. After seeing this video, I'm going to start tacking STR back up in NG+, and just start turning into an all-powerful demigod. I'm still far from max level, right? I've got lots of possible stat points yet. 🙂

Every single pvp build that has any room at all for attunement is by default running pyro. Even my wizard and faith builds run black flame just for a little guard break and poise break utility. The nature of how pyro works in ds1 makes every build with attunement pyro capable by default so it shouldn't even have to be stated that its included. This is dark souls 1. It's a given.

Vit soft-caps are 30 and 50, but you're gonna want close to 50, preferably with the ring of casual protection. It's a common misconception for vit or even ALL stats to have their caps at 40, which isn't true at all. ALSO, vit past 50 is still great. I love having close to 60-80 when I'm on a mono-scaling build

That's fine if you can handle it. Level str/dex evenly for the most part and pump some points into hp when you feel vulnerable. Don't forget to level endurance!

it would work fine, you would get great scaling for any weapon with high scaling in strength or dex or both. it would be effective, but not efficient, because if you're only gonna use high dex scaling weapons then your strength would be wasted, you could spend it on something more helpful like endurance or a magic stat of your choice. however, if you're planning on using both strength and dex weapons frequently, there's nothing wrong with quality

how do covenants work like what do you gain out of them and which should you join?

You gain many different spells/items depending on the covenant. I'd recommend going into all of them and finding how many materials you need to level and get all the spells. In the end, you want to stick with a covenant based on your build. For example, a faith build with Darkmoon Covenant ranked can use a powerful Darkmoon Blade buff.

Both of what? If you mean dexterity and strength, then you want to keep them balanced to 40. I'd recommend to find a weapon you like or want to use and use your stat distribution for that first. Then, keep the two stats balanced.

But I was referring to leveling up endurance and vitality. Seeing as you are at 40 for both. I was just wondering if I should level them both at the same time. Sorry for the dumb question, this is my first play through and I got a buddy who tells me to be careful as to where I put my stats otherwise it would be a tough to advance in the game. Right now I use a divine+5 zweihander and a silv. Knight str sword as a back up. Also I use the ring of favour and protection as well as the grass crest shield

Yeah, DS1 gets tougher later in the game. For HP and endurance, it's always more situational. If you're struggling, then put more into HP. If not, then level up your endurance so you'll be able to wear better armor, and swing more, etc.

For 90% of the time I actually never lock on enemies in pvp. Not even in Pve I think. I feel safer that way for some reason and more comfortable

I'm the opposite. In DSR I never lock on to PVE enemies but in PVP it's backstab city if you turn your back; it's just not safe in this game.

Because when you lock on you cant dodge top right or top left without it inputting it as a dodge right into them

Yeah, you can use +15 composite bow or anything that scales with str/dex.

Warrior, but you can also use Bandit, Hunter, or Pyromancer to have the same stats at 120.
