Let me tell you a story. I was in my room, thinking. All my first person shooters became too boring to play, so I was stuck. I wanted a more medevil, melee combat revolved kind of game. Then it came to me. Dark Souls. I knew about the games existence, but in terms of what it actually was, I had no clue whatsoever. So, I looked it up at the microsoft store, and there it was. Dark Souls |||. The price was 79:99$, which bummed me out, but then I said fuck it, and went to the closest store I could, and bought four 25$ xbox giftcards, and entered all four codes in to buy the game. It was when I got to Gundyr that I'd felt like my money was wasted. I was pissed. More pissed than I'd ever been at game since overwatch. However, after taking a good long break, I thought to myself, "You know what? I've made this mess myself, so I'm going to god damn play the game the best I can!" Later on, after finding some fire bombs, learning the game mechanics, and boss moves, and a few deaths, I finally defeated Gundyr. I don't think I'd ever felt more alive. I breathed a sigh of relief, and went to firelink shrine. From there, and then on, Dark Souls became one of my favorite games. I found upgrades, materials, and farmed souls to upgrade my stats, and I decided to go for a low VIT, high DEX & STRENGTH, assassin type build. Everywhere I went was a mystery I wanted to unravel. I asked myself questions like, "What happened to this place? What's behind this door? Who is this onion looking knight?" No game has ever made me actively search for clues to the answers of the world I was in. Everything had a story. Even the weapons I wielded. I took up the covenant of the Watchdogs of Farron, and decided... I would become an Abyss Watcher. I'm so glad to say that the game was worth so much more than 80$ when I beat it. Best...Game...Ever!!!

Never played bloodborn and I'm only at the beginning of sekiro (so far sekiro looks more difficult in comparison to the beginning of ds3 but I didn't progress enough to rank it difficulty wise). As a Souls veteran, as someone who fully understands and has done everything in the trilogy, this guy's gameplay is an affront. I can name a flaw in every clip he shows, and it's understandable to make a few mistakes when you're new, but he doesn't learn. A major error in clip after clip is that he engages enemies without any stamina. That little green bar at the top left corner is the foundation for every combat encounter in every game, it allows you to block, kick, swing your weapon, roll, and anything else needed in a fight until it's depleted. When Hippo goes in to fight, his stamina is almost already gone because he's running around when walking will do fine. Another misstep in his battles are his overuse of rolling. 8:48 He rolls backwards twice when he could just walk backwards, and he proceeds to roll three times into a wall. A vital skill in these games, Three especially with it's faster pacing in combat, is stamina management, deciding when to roll, attack , or block is crucial in battle. You don't want to block or roll too often because then you've got no energy to attack, and by attacking too much you don't have the stamina to get out of the way of a counter. Furthermore, he only seems to analyze the end result of each fight rather than the smaller errors and triumphs. At 6:25 he again enters a fight by rolling, consuming more stamina, but more importantly it is what he's saying betrays what is depicted. He says, "As soon as you make one mistake you're fucked" but in the clip he makes several mistakes that he adapts to and gets himself out of. After defeating the first enemy in this encounter he has run out of stamina, but he instead of rolling away in a frenzy, he calmly walks away. To briefly expand on stamina management, another useful technique in battle is the sidestep, circling around the opponent without consuming any stamina, and this technique is employed here to back off. He the rolls twice, which again, never play an ace when a two will do. The fight continues, he stops, noticing that one of his opponents has begun two swings and the other is far away, he takes the time to get back his stamina and swings, while he defeated his target, he hit the wall as well, leaving him staggered. He takes a hit but is able to make use of the roll by escaping a second strike, albeit with one roll too many. He then wins the encounter by hurling a fireball from far away. With several ups and downs he is able to escape victorious, but because he is tunnel visioned into only seeing that he won, and not the several errors leading up to his victory, he does not learn. One of my favorite aspects of the Dark Souls franchise is the ways in which many narrative and gameplay mechanics are beautifully married. Here I bring up Hollowing, a constant process in the Accursed Undead which hollows a bearer of the curse more and more as they die until, after losing all hope, they turn into a full Hollow. Hippo has become a Hollow.
@AnimeisGarbage5 жыл бұрын
I was waiting for someone to make this comment, I've gone from DS3 to DS1 and finally DS2. I've fully mastered most of the areas in the available games to me since I'm on PC and I even got Sekiro 5 minutes after release on steam. His gameplay is painful, souls is near and dear to my heart and I think I'm qualified to say that the games aren't difficult, they're easy, but their learning curve is massive. I've refunded DS3 thrice, but I finally stuck to it and continued to play every souls like in my reach, from Nioh to Surge, DS2 being my favorite for the sheer amount of effort they put into the scale of the game and all the traditional RPG elements they added. I've been on and off games like DS2 for the pvp and I recently took up Rust, the game has taught me a lot about loss and seeing this tied with my recent experiences really solidifies the fact that Hippo will forever be stuck in a loop of willfull ignorance and it samples cases of people like this outside of the internet to shed light on this bottom feeder.

Well no actually, it's hard to make you more immersed in the world, and to make your victories feel more rewarding. "Hard for the sake of being hard" would imply that the difficulty was just thrown in for no reason other than to be hard, which it wasn't.
@ottogofast38825 жыл бұрын
Loser dude it’s dark souls, you don’t have to try and defend it. The game is hard specifically to annoy you, there’s nothing else to it. You can continue to live in that fantasy world and make up reasons for why it’s hard but you know it’s bullshit. “It’s hard to make your victories feel more rewarding” is a bullshit excuse. The enemy placement in the dukes archives for DS is fucking annoying and the developers do it just so you will die, literally no other reason. The channeler doesn’t spawn behind you with an archer in front of you and an ambush from the side to “immerse you into the world”... not saying the game isn’t fun or enjoyable but I’m not gunna sit here and let you defend it just because you love the game. I love the game too but it’s hard for the sake of being hard, it’s literally a game that tests your patience and mental willpower that’s all.
@LittleWeevil5 жыл бұрын
@@ottogofast3882 except the creator of Dark Souls, hidetaka miyazaki has stated that its not hard just to annoy you, he did not create dark souls just to make a hard game. he started with the world and story and the difficulty just naturally came during development, because according to him, the world of dark souls seemed like a harsh and unforgiving one to him. dont know why you're trying to make Dark Souls look more simple and shallow than it really is.
@ottogofast38825 жыл бұрын
Loser the world and lore is vast and in depth but the gameplay is pretty fucking simple. Sure it’s his game but did he personally choreograph enemy placements for each level? No. The game punishes you for no other reason than to test your patience and willpower. They don’t give you quest markers, they don’t explain anything, etc. the game is literally designed to provide a challenge. Good game but quit trying to defend it. I like the game too but you don’t see me making shit up to excuse the game for being difficult. Playing souls games make you a stronger person mentally but it doesn’t immerse me into the world or make me feel accomplished, especially when you lose a big chunk of souls. It makes me realize how much time I wasted on the game, it distinguishes who can accept the defeat and restart from the bonfire for the 30th time. That’s why a lot of people quit the game, you gotta be a certain type of person the play through these games. They didn’t make the game hard to “immerse you into the world” fallout does that easily without providing challenge. The game is simply difficult, no rhyme or reason to it. He’s been making extremely difficult games his whole career, that’s what he does, that’s what his fans want.
@LittleWeevil5 жыл бұрын
@@ottogofast3882 I suppose me quoting the actual creator of the entire franchise is me making up excuses. now, what you mentioned about immersion, I think that the difficulty does enhance immersion, it makes me pay more attention to the world and makes me more focused on the game, which leads to me getting immersed. Now, you mentioned how the Fallout games can immerse you without the great difficulty, I never said that a game NEEDS difficulty to be immersive, it depends on the game. Dark Souls wants to immerse you in a harsh and unforgiving world, while in fallout, while it isnt a world i would call pleasant, is a world where the great tragedy has already acurred and people have started to move on, its more bout having adventures in a new world rather than exploring a miserable and dying place. also, the first 2 fallout games can actually be quite difficult at times. I dont really see why you're trying to discredit a mans artistic intent, simplifying his game from an Immersive and engaging experiences to "difficulty with no rhyme or reason", which it isnt by the way, the difficulty is fairly well paced and gradually rises as the game goes on, there is certainly rhyme and reason to it.

@skydom8205 жыл бұрын
LuckyHorseshoe 4 well, ibh how ds1 is made definitely fucks you over in every aspect, bloodborne does it in a similar but simpler way. Papa G was really a boss that was harder than all first mandatory *tutorial* bosses but other than that I think bloodborne may be around same difficulty as ds3, let’s not forget abou bosses like O&S or the four kings that were hard because of strategy elements really put in well on those two fights, the bosses that I REALLY struggled with in bloodborne were, ebriatas, papa G, orphan of kos and Lawrence

Yep I used to be bad too. I died to gundyr around maybe 10 times. I've played hack and slash games like dmc, so that probably helped a bit. But yeah dying to gundyr is the hallmark of a new player. As of now, I am beating the dancer with a +2 broadsword at low sl before vordt :D. Let's just say I got gud.

Lol it's honestly best just to get 20% resistance in everything, unless you plan on doing a poise pvp build with a greatsword or ultra greatsword. I found the lightest armour that can get me to 20% absorption for everything including magic is the assassin armour, knight legs, dancer gauntlets and wolnir's crown.

@Ness_and_Sonic5 жыл бұрын
@Kyle West I've died a lot of times in both those games, but maybe it's just my style of making observations first and try to compile a strategy with each try. Could also be the fact that I used a controller over mouse and keyboard.
@Ness_and_Sonic5 жыл бұрын
@Kyle West I couldn't adapt to keyboard and mouse, so that's why I use a controller. Partially because I don't have a lot of room for a mouse and partially because of the number of keys on a keyboard make it intimidating to me.
@Ness_and_Sonic5 жыл бұрын
@Kyle West No mods, I just clean out a room and take a little time to make observations of adjacent rooms. By the way, the game is on Switch now. (Not sure how well it plays as I got them on Steam for the Payday 2 content.)

A couple months ago I finally beat ds3 and within like 3 weeks I played through to get all the endings. Then I decided I should finally beat sekiro after giving up twice last year, took me awhile to finally get the skill to kill guardian ape and then I went up against owl father and had to throw myself at him for like 3 hours straight and when I finally beat him I felt so fucking accomplished. Killing the last boss was hella easy in comparison to my experience with owl father. But I finally beat the game and instantly started a second play through and then beat all bosses for a second time in like half the time. Only died to guarding ape, owl father and isshin twice. I got gud, and I’m so glad it did the game is so fucking good and it’s made me hella interested in Japanese history shits super interesting.

Some reasons why demon souls is the hardest: Clunky mechanics Bad camera angle (All soulsborne games have bad camera angle its a tradition for fromsoftware) No bonfires. You die, you start the area from the beginning. It`s buggy and glitchy. Flamelurker.

I'm gonna admit, Griffins content is kind of repetitive. I don't mean this in a bad way, I like his content. It's just that he talks about the same topics a LOT, and he doesn't like to take criticism either. Which I find quite strange, like whenever someone tries to genuinely criticize him or even just insults him he kind of just throws it back in their face. He isn't even that creative with it in my opinion.
