The combat mechanics and graphics have gotten smoother, but even with the difficulty at max, if you know what you're doing by mid game you're pretty much the most powerful character in the game and everything else becomes just a cake walk. I've been dying for an open world game set in a mythical, medieval type world, that was actually a challenge and took skill but was also fun. This game continues to deliver that with every new area discovered, with every new dungeon explored, with every new boss encountered.

I've lost count of the number of times that I've gone into a new area in souls and failed, thinking, 'how the hell am I supposed to do this?' Then you learn the enemy attacks, try some spells or gear that you picked up etc and next thing you know you're running rings around them. My best advice for people is that lost runes don't matter. Depends on context, "one mistake and die" is ok for example against an extremely telegraphed attack that send you and email, SMS and requires you to accept the attack in order to do damage but if you are perfectly balanced and something random and common 1-shots you it kind of feels cheap. For me the "cheap" attacks i've seen are the grab from the iron maidens being too fast and having an odd timing and active frames for too long and in one dungeon there is one boss that is all about scarlet rot but the room is so small and the boss so big and hard to see I was having a hard time avoiding his almost 1-shot grab

Fight them and die, get butthurt, or realize you can come back later when you're ready? Because eventually if you persevere regardless of your plan, you will win. And that joy of overcoming something you thought impossible will stay with you. It's a joy only those who have done it can understand. "it's unforgiving..." You know what, besides losing runes/money there isn't really any consequences to dying except the occasional checkpoint where you have to run for a bit. The deaths are NOWHERE NEAR as bad as the original Souls games where you have to have specific items or else you lose a huge chunk of health, to the point where it wasn't worth going back to human if you knew you were gonna die. I'm almost 200 hours in and I've only gotten maybe 3-4 main bosses, I keep exploring and I love helping random players

Bruh imagine if Miyazaki made losing levels a dying mechanic in the next game, a death means losing a level, then in Ng+ it makes you lose 2 levels then increases with every Ng+.This would basically turn any fromsoft game into jump king,and I feel like any game with a difficulty level is trying to make the game harder artificially instead of just having a fromsoft base game without any difficulty settings unless it matches with the story theme or is found in or after base game completion.Difficulty levels doesn't even make sense unless integrated into the story, and it helps with the feeling like the game is relatively organic or natural.

I'm 14, and have never played a Souls game before. Elden Ring is my first Souls experience. I love it. While dropping your runes upon death is a little annoying, the satisfaction of finally beating that one boss/enemy you keep struggling with far outweighs the annoyances that occur.
@felixsylvester42662 жыл бұрын
The dropping of Runes does sadly feel like a bit of a holdover from the older titles that doesn't fit that well into Elden Ring. In the Open World you can always easily get your Runes back so it doesn't add challenge. But during Boss Battles it is now basically impossible to get them without picking them up for as many times as you die to the Boss. If you haven't played the older titles you probably don't know this, but there was an item you could use to teleport back to the Hub area or last Bonefire and it could be used everywhere-including Boss rooms. I'm not sure why Elden Ring lacks an item like that. Anyway, hope you enjoy the game! If you really crave more gameplay of this sort after finishing it, I recommend either Bloodborne or Dark Douls 3. Bloodborne has the best bossfights out of all their games imo, while DS3 stays consistently very good, but doesn't quite reach the highs (or lows) of Bloodborne or Elden Ring. Dark Souls 1 is also still great, but feels a bit outdated and slow by now.

Yup and the other problem is that everybody thinks that every single game has to be for them. If you don't enjoy the game as it is, just don't play it. Simple as that. It is not the developers obligation to then change the game just to include every single person. Also, the debate about the difficulty starts everytime fromsoft releases a new game and it is just the same shit over and over again. When are they just gonna drop it? It is the essence of the games and honestly i gotta say that Elden Ring really is only as hard as you make it for yourself. You can play mage and blast everything, you have op ashes that can help out a ton and if everything fails there is still the internet to look stuff up. There are so many options to make it significantly easier if you really want it that bad. Nobody forbids you from using those tools and if you are still complaining about it being too hard, then maybe you are just bad at playing video games. Are people not used to die a few times to a boss? I really wonder what kind of games those people usually play.
