This is my first "souls" game and I love it. I was a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games. However, since Morrowind they've just gotten easier and easier. The combat mechanics and graphics have gotten smoother, but even with the difficulty at max, if you know what you're doing by mid game you're pretty much the most powerful character in the game and everything else becomes just a cake walk. I've been dying for an open world game set in a mythical, medieval type world, that was actually a challenge and took skill but was also fun. This game continues to deliver that with every new area discovered, with every new dungeon explored, with every new boss encountered.

Around the same with me except Skyrim was my first introduction into the Elder Scrolls universe. I completely agree and I actually use combat based mods and have increased the overall difficulty in Skyrim so I can still get some challenge out of it. I also have the Dark Souls Anniversary edition for PC. I think I need to create a new character cause I think I made a mistake. My current character is slow LOL. I’ve tried DS on Xbox but only gotten to a certain point. Elden Ring is beautiful and challenging and I enjoy it(well even more so since I got the remove vignette and chromatic aberration mods because CA gives me a headache and Vignette is better in pictures imho).

I've lost count of the number of times that I've gone into a new area in souls and failed, thinking, 'how the hell am I supposed to do this?' Then you learn the enemy attacks, try some spells or gear that you picked up etc and next thing you know you're running rings around them. My best advice for people is that lost runes don't matter. You'll get them back. If you need runes for levels or purchases then just get summoned for a boss a few times.

Depends on context, "one mistake and die" is ok for example against an extremely telegraphed attack that send you and email, SMS and requires you to accept the attack in order to do damage but if you are perfectly balanced and something random and common 1-shots you it kind of feels cheap. For me the "cheap" attacks i've seen are the grab from the iron maidens being too fast and having an odd timing and active frames for too long and in one dungeon there is one boss that is all about scarlet rot but the room is so small and the boss so big and hard to see I was having a hard time avoiding his almost 1-shot grab

I remember chatting with my flat mate once about his initial experiences of Morrowind. He said "phew, it took me a while but I managed to clear the first area". It turns out he murdered everyone in Seyda Neen immediately after leaving the boat and getting through customs because he thought it was like Diablo or Dungeon Siege where only enemies can be attacked. Although I found it astonishing (and hilarious) at first, it really goes to show that some people have some pretty serious preconceptions about how games should be played based on other games they have played. I think this video is similar; the angry reviewer is probably just so used to playing games where NPCs can't be attacked that he didn't even think to leave Varre alone.

See this? This shit right here? It's why these games are good. They challenge you. Hey here's this big unreasonably hard enemy. Whatcha gonna do? Fight them and die, get butthurt, or realize you can come back later when you're ready? Because eventually if you persevere regardless of your plan, you will win. And that joy of overcoming something you thought impossible will stay with you. It's a joy only those who have done it can understand. So, new player, are you ready to suffer, cry, and experience a blatantly unbalanced but ultimately fair experience in the name of achieving that bliss you can't achieve otherwise? If yes, welcome to from soft games. If no, have fun elsewhere. This isn't for you.

Bruh imagine if Miyazaki made losing levels a dying mechanic in the next game, a death means losing a level, then in Ng+ it makes you lose 2 levels then increases with every Ng+.This would basically turn any fromsoft game into jump king,and I feel like any game with a difficulty level is trying to make the game harder artificially instead of just having a fromsoft base game without any difficulty settings unless it matches with the story theme or is found in or after base game completion.Difficulty levels doesn't even make sense unless integrated into the story, and it helps with the feeling like the game is relatively organic or natural.

I'm 14, and have never played a Souls game before. Elden Ring is my first Souls experience. I love it. While dropping your runes upon death is a little annoying, the satisfaction of finally beating that one boss/enemy you keep struggling with far outweighs the annoyances that occur.
@felixsylvester4266
@felixsylvester4266 2 жыл бұрын
The dropping of Runes does sadly feel like a bit of a holdover from the older titles that doesn't fit that well into Elden Ring. In the Open World you can always easily get your Runes back so it doesn't add challenge. But during Boss Battles it is now basically impossible to get them without picking them up for as many times as you die to the Boss. If you haven't played the older titles you probably don't know this, but there was an item you could use to teleport back to the Hub area or last Bonefire and it could be used everywhere-including Boss rooms. I'm not sure why Elden Ring lacks an item like that. Anyway, hope you enjoy the game! If you really crave more gameplay of this sort after finishing it, I recommend either Bloodborne or Dark Douls 3. Bloodborne has the best bossfights out of all their games imo, while DS3 stays consistently very good, but doesn't quite reach the highs (or lows) of Bloodborne or Elden Ring. Dark Souls 1 is also still great, but feels a bit outdated and slow by now.

Yup and the other problem is that everybody thinks that every single game has to be for them. If you don't enjoy the game as it is, just don't play it. Simple as that. It is not the developers obligation to then change the game just to include every single person. Also, the debate about the difficulty starts everytime fromsoft releases a new game and it is just the same shit over and over again. When are they just gonna drop it? It is the essence of the games and honestly i gotta say that Elden Ring really is only as hard as you make it for yourself. You can play mage and blast everything, you have op ashes that can help out a ton and if everything fails there is still the internet to look stuff up. There are so many options to make it significantly easier if you really want it that bad. Nobody forbids you from using those tools and if you are still complaining about it being too hard, then maybe you are just bad at playing video games. Are people not used to die a few times to a boss? I really wonder what kind of games those people usually play.

It's pretty weird that one has to do that. If you are supposed to learn that "I shouldn't attack that guy", then the game should give the player a chance to get away when he respawns.
@trexypoo
@trexypoo 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderhugestrand it’s definitely possible to evade him after he’s aggro’d and you have to hit him like 3 times before he becomes aggressive so it’s pretty difficult to do by accident but even still I was just saying in his scenario if he aggro’d him and couldn’t just run past without getting killed he should’ve just started a new save since it was like less than 5 minutes into the game

@@alexanderhugestrand why would you attack him anyway is the point lol I mean yeah sure he says you're maidenless but it's literally just a video game npc. I'd say the fault is more on the player than the game or the devs at that point but oh well.

Its not weird at all. The guy is not hostile at all, literally stood there at the site of grace welcoming the player and giving them tips on how to progress. Let me go back in time to the legend of zelda link's awakening on the game boy. If you steal from the shopkeeper, the next time you go into his shop he has some electric gun or something and 1 shots you (cutscene, not even possible to fight or survive). That is far more unforgiving than what happened to this guy and that game was literally made for young children XD@@alexanderhugestrand

Though I'm currently waiting for DLCs to be announced/confirmed, I find it insanely hard to hate games like Elden Ring whenever I die to a boss. Obviously it's frustrating, but it feels great to overcome the bosses

Not only that it also helps humble you. alot of games you can just skill through.. Not souls games, there are the exception players of such skill that the general rule of thumb does not apply. but typically you have to earn your victories and souls, blood echo's, sen and runes.

the funny part is that even if you accidentally atack varee ,and pretty much any npc for that matter, at first they shrug it off, and you have to atack them like 4-5 times until they start atacking, so no he went out of his way to try and kill varee. Truly maidenless

I was having trouble with a boss, died a few times. So I took a moment, checked my talismans, changed a couple to suit the fight. Changed my wondrous physick to suit the fight, went back in and killed it first time. These games have always been about dying, learning, adapting and then conquering.

Me and friend going co op through game.. explored academy found renalla died to dog boss many times kept exploring found main boss died so many times on first phase. Slowly learned patterns and adapted finally reached second phase it was hard learned about summon and kept retrying. Then we swapped weapon to them having blood and us rushing the golden aura people no longer being scared after solar flared was able to skip her tombstone phase (which was what killed us the most without realizing till we spotted it out) then we were finally able to phase 1 her after two phases of golden people. Did phase two for 20 more times( additional to phase one learning lost count) till we beat her and it felt soo good after so many hours learning it. Then we did it on other persons since aggros different took 15 tries to kill Now we just dont know how to use the rememberance at all so trying to figure that out but its been a blaaast

I think everyone remembers their first time attacking an NPC - accident or not. That's a lesson you only need to learn ONCE. I'm a very casual player - I'm a working mom - and I love it. I've actually had to ground MYSELF off the game bc I've spent almost 200 hours in it already and have only gotten to the beginning of the snowy area. I'm not even mad, I'm just enjoying the journey and scenery 💖💖

True, not as bad as their older games too. You have to Actively attack an NPC 3 times to aggro them so It's not like dropping your controller will do it. Played demon souls on ps3 and laid the controller on the shoulder button near an important merchent. Not a good day.
