Dark Vanilla Fragrances: Delicious, Smoky, Toasted, Spicy

Oh dear. Vanilla 28. It promises so much but it smells cheap and flat on me with APPALLING staying power and projection. I have it but won't repurchase. My favourite dark smoky vanilla/cocoa scents are: Gold Myrrh Absolute by Carolina Herrera (imagine the collected steam from a thousand mugs of hot chocolate forming a thick cloud which ushers in theeee most divine myrrh note you've ever smelled), Absolute Aphrodisiac by Initio. Leather and vanilla with that same thick smoky character rather than a syrup. I also have Oud Bouquet, having bought one of the last bottles from Harrods (it's now permanently discontinued as far as I know). I didn't like it at first and almost tosssed the sample (same thing happened with Rania J's slightly phenolic, deep resinous amber masterpiece 'Ambre Loup') but I'm addicted to smelling both of them now; Oud Bouquet to my nose is toasted marshmallow, sweet nutty praline, a nearby deep pond of rosewater and that beautiful, sweetened oud shredded on the forest floor. For some reason Insulo by Jeroboam divides a room too, but for me it's a gorgeous slightly burned toffee mixed with the smell you get when you open a bag of caramel-liquorice sweets. Moreish and has no dupe with fragrances like Relativement Rosso (spelling, sorry) and Sangre Dulce being far too charred and bitter. That toasty, caramelised character can really be taken too far within a profile, can't it?

Valkyrie is fantastic, I agree! When I first smelled it I thought it was too sweet but it quickly grew on me and now I’m rationing my decant lol

Nice! I actually have Dupont's Vanilla & Leather and still layer it occasionally. But you've definitely put me in the mood for Vanille Havane this evening! Now there's a vanilla scent. Bummed about finishing my decant, but maybe it'll encourage me to get a bottle. Too true about the TF packaging too. Bit of a joke at that price actually. Great seeing you again Maria! ❤

Leaving comment before i watch because i know its gonna be good and i love vanilla note in perfume, meanwhile dior poison girl is my favourite scent with vanilla, but on my skin its more like im standing in front of elegant french bakery during christmas, rather than noir feeling

Love this list! I have a tricky time with vanilla, but I'm always trying to find one that works for me. I've been really curious about Myrrh Assoluto - I do love a myrrh note. ❤

Great video! I love both the valentino myrrh and valkyrie but I d choose Valkyrie as well! You should also try Vangelis by SD. A beauty 😍 I think my favorite kind of vanilla is bourbon vanilla in fragrances!

Hi Maria, love your content - you are so informed! Before you splash the Penhaligan's cash, - I have an Extrait of The Bewitching Yasmine from The Perfume Parlour UK clone house (it's called Spell Flower which I just love)! . Did a side by side a couple of weeks ago, I would say near identical. The PP version is stronger.. PP's prices are very low, and they ship worldwide. I am now a PP addict though so be careful! :-) When you mentioned Miroir des Majestes I remembered I had a very small tester bottle and looked it out. There is very little left in it and the orange blossom has amped up to nuclear level. I don't get along very well with Orange blossom - it's almost taking me to Maroussia Slava Zaitsev vibes! Would love your thoughts on that one - I have a full bottle that I have never worn. I think its the orange blossom thats putting me off. Do you find any similarity with MDM & the Maroussia? Sorry if I have gone off topic! Keep making this fantastic content, so appreciated. With Love from Scotland

There is one I’ve been anxious to try, and it’s called….Dark Vanilla! It’s by Montale. Top note is Spices; middle notes are Leather, Cambodian Oud, Patchouli and Sandalwood; base notes are Vanilla and Amber. Only thing that concerns me is the oud, as I’m not a big fan of the note if it’s really noticeable. I’ve heard very nice things about this fragrance though.
