From my experience, "re-writing" associations is only a daunting task if done consciously. Most levels of awareness are not superficial; but once accessed, can be extremely helpful in retrieving useful information (both personal and transpersonal) and even facilitating profound psychological and physiological healing. Significant change can even happen in a matter of seconds, and doesn't need to be self-generated, although most healing is. Learning to function consciously with direct or peripheral awareness of these levels in the moment (many of them outside of any time domain) is a challenge believe me, but can expand the mind in ineffable ways. It's also how people go crazy. 😆🤪 Best to adapt slowly, like with olfaction. 😉 Ps, why not give smelling perfume in lucid dream states a try? 😁

I am sceptical of any fragrances produced after 2010. It is all amber woody, isobutyl quinoline, iso super cheap cocktails done in 1 minute for mindless consumption. Buy local and vintage instead. Pre-IFRA or non IFRA- compliant.

New sub here! Best wishes from Scotland! On a deep note, I struggled with the type of addiction that can kill. Luckily I am wayyy on the other side now and doing well. Yet I feel FOMO is a lot of what drives people to perfume addiction. I am happy to stick with samples and small decants then treat myself twice or thrice a year on a full bottle. For myself, I could never blind buy a full bottle. That would trigger me to my past self. ( although I never got into debt in the past, I just spent the absolute max). Yet people have different levels. If a blind buy and maybe another buy once a month is within your budget and gives you joy then there is no harm. We all have things we are passionate about! No harm if it is not hurting your life. Hobbies are joyful! If it hurts your wallet or social life ( not seeing friends or family because you overspent) or one constantly beats oneself up ( buyers remorse and guilt) then its a problem. Luckily this kind of addiction will not lead to death, thank god! xx In summary, life is way too short and so much pain in the world not to give yourself a bit of joy in the form of one of our beautiful senses, smell! xx

Thank you for educating those who do not know WHO he really is and WHERE he came from. I've followed him for over 30 years and have 30+ Les Salons Du Palais Royal Shiseido vintage bell-bottle falcons of which in my opinion is their best packaging. AND I have many many more. While his Feminite du Bois/resin/fruit range put him on the map in the fragrance world his white florals are the crème de la crème IMO, and not many reach that level with exception to FM Carnal Flower. Fils de Joie is a projection bomb lol, one spray fills a room and I love it! SL, FM, OJ and LAP are the core of my collection. Niche is my jam! Carnation = Lorenzo Villoresi Garofano, amazing! Nice review, you have a new sub.

After some years following perfume youtubers, I'm one of those who have fallen into the rabbit hole, but luckily I've come to a stop all by myself, when I naturally began to feel nauseous at hearing the same blabber over and over. Most of all, it was the desperate, at time even slutty attitude of those who had sponsors or discount codes to push, they all felt so ... uncapable of selling their "products" without sounding pushy, false or just desperate. Today, on the rare occasions when I still listen to those fragheads, who cannot really hide the sad fact of their OCD, I can't help feeling that these people lack dignity and a healthy sense of reality.

I love fragrances since late 90s. It has been almost 30 years for me and I accumulated 70 bottles of very special scents for this time. Perfume is a luxury item, buy 2-4 bottles a year and treasure them. Develop special memories with fragrance and anchor them with memories of special places and people.❤

I enjoy all as well, memories, aromatherapy, music, I have 60+, never more, and I use all of them in seasonaly rotation. Lately I have got rid of 15 bottles I was bored, I had them for 10years+ and have noticed my taste has changed after menopause, so I invested in 10 new scents, I need maybe more 3. And no more. It is never about collecting, I also do not care what is in. I have no debt, so why not enjoying olfactory music pieces?

Fascinating and in depth review! Serge Lutens was my gateway drug into the fragrance world. The Sheldrake signature ‘fruit and woody’ blanket was genius. To me, it was almost as if he was trying to recreate an Oud note without oud before others came around to the idea. I do find that the packaging differences can indicate different strengths (export vs bell jars) and sometimes, reformulations.
@MariaMeliora
@MariaMeliora 6 күн бұрын
oh thank you! Reformulations are always a topic of interest. While they can bring new dimensions to a scent, they sometimes alter the original composition, and sure enough it is never explicitly disclosed. It's a delicate balance that fragrance brands must navigate, often driven by changes in ingredient availability or regulatory guidelines. I suspect the superstitious views on repackaging are born from that fear. Thank you again for sharing your insights! It's always a pleasure to engage with fellow fragrance enthusiasts who appreciate the intricate art of perfumery 😘🌺❤
@YaYa-ke1zr
@YaYa-ke1zr 6 күн бұрын
@@MariaMeliora Yes I agree… it is not the fault of the perfumer nor the brand when reformulations occur. There are restrictions that they must adhere to. However, reformulations have very real impacts. At one point, I had a full collection of the different packaging for Chergui (Palais black, SL white, SL black, in export bottles vs Paris bell jars, green juice, brown juice, purple juice). Each revised packaging was a unique version of Chergui, however, each same packaging was identical to others with same packaging. However some scents smell exactly the same throughout the packaging changes (ie Daim Blond). That’s one of the beautiful things about Serge Lutens: the mystery. The ingredients are always top quality, similar to the old Chanel formulas. None of my old ‘Palais’ bottles have turned. They are as strong and dense as they were on the very first day.

I don't think it's a mental illness. It's fun to collect, but because it's so accessible it can be impulsive. Like, I wouldn't say someone collecting baseball cards or watches necessarily has a mental illness. But like anything else, it ultimately could be, depending on the person's state of mind.

I've been unsuccessfully trying to encourage people to do their homework on sweat since the early 2000s. 😄 But it's tricky to overcome deeply seated and continually advertised misconceptions. Unfortunately, once those chemicals become absorbed by clothing, no amount of ventilation, time or wishing will get them out. They need to be washed, otherwise you risk contaminating an otherwise clean body, especially when it warms up. Not sure I'd go so far as to insinuate that powerful [non-toxic] smells lead to receptor "death" though. Transient desensitization certainly and perhaps even a degree of masking if mucosal congestion follows (both forms of dysosmia), but actual damage to olfactive cells, their membranes or associated nerve pathways is rare and oftentimes the result of disease processes, inhaling/ingesting known toxins, caustic materials or infections pathogens. Lengthy power-sniffing sessions of pure ethanol or isopropanol might do it; but perfumes...not likely. Thank you for advocating not overwhelming people with your fragrance though Maria. I feel like popular cultural fads (not to mention seeking attention) can sometimes overcome basic courtesy. Barring the use of elemental rationality, I really wish people would take advantage of their transpersonal and transtemporal perceptions more often. It isn't difficult to project a part of ourselves 'ahead' of any situation to get a feel for the outcome of present decisions, all within the span of a few seconds. With enough practice, it's a habit that can even save our lives. Loved the vid. Here's to those pleasurable Cool hwhiffs! 😂
