Dark is a straight up work of art in the truest sense of the word. I cannot recall the last time a piece of fiction has affected me the way Dark has! Really looking forward to your S2 and S3 thoughts! This essay was wonderful, thank you!!

Rewatching the series, and one of the best things about the show is a combination of the acting, and how real the characters are written 😤 They may be fictional characters, but they’re all brought to life as if they really do exist in our world 😅

Haha I said that when I watched first season ... and after that I said that for season 2, and then I finished season 3 (finale) and what I am saying now is that it’s the best show ever written/produced. The music, the scenery...everything is perfect from start to finish. Never believe anything else :p

Nice analysis here. With one major exception for me: I don't see see the antgonism between the "loving provident god of judao-christian tradition" and the "cruel inconsistent theology of ancient paganism" at all. In my opinion these two are on the same side in the DARK scheme of things. The essential conflict is between fate and free will. And it doesn't matter whether you believe that fate is defined by god, a pagan idol or time itself.
@ShadeoftheEvening4 жыл бұрын
Nicely put. Belief in "they way things are meant to be" isn't just Judeo Christian theme. There are ways to argue for and against determinism. Personally, I lean towards a little of both. We do have free will, say stopping doing drugs, but was raised Catholic, am Empath, I I don't think some things in life are just coincidence.
@CortexVideos4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah I personally lean towards both but as you mentioned the conflict between free will and fate is what is central. I did link most of my video into that when centralising my examples in the story and the links to the way time in used. But completely respect your opinion.

I consider myself lucky to be able to binge-watch all 3 seasons at once. Considering its complexity, mysteries and addictivnes I would have to watch season 1 again before watching season 2 and then again first 2 before seeing season 3 :D Also this show is one of my favourite one on the netflix due to manythings: great characters, well thought story and storytelling, sci-fi elements intertwined with biblical themes and perfect ending that does not feel like it was rushed. PS: Found your channel after watching 1899 so need to see what else do you offer

And this is just season 1. Seasons 2 and 3 are totally freaking out. And the show always follows an deterministic approach like old Greek mythology. Whatever is foretold to happen, will happen. And there is no way to avoid it or make it undone. Never. By trying to avoid your fate, you fulfil it. Like Macbeth. There is no free will, Laplace's demon is active all the time. Well, there's one exception... ;-) And that's how the show is built up: Season 1: What happens? Season 2: Why does it happen? Season 3: Why does it have to happen?
@CortexVideos4 жыл бұрын
Nikioko that has me incredibly excited for the rest of season 2 and 3. It really is fantastic television making.

@@CortexVideos And is very deeply thought. To fully understand most of it, you must be proficient both with philosophy and modern science. You have to know Schopenhauer and Einstein. I can't say more, because that would spoil too much. But one thing: It takes you up to the penultimate episode to understand, what is really going on and in the very last episode you get the solution. And everything makes perfect sense in the end. Don't fear an ending like the one of Lost - that won't happen.
@pseudonymousbeing9874 жыл бұрын
Spoilers from here: Dude what the hell is this comment? Why are you spoiling the entire show on a video about season 1? Why are you telling the content creator things that happen and how they go? Why are you ruining the intruige and mystery? You're not nearly vague or general enough to hide behind "oh but I'm not giving out details". It doesn't even matter if you were even more vague. Even giving people any kinds of hints or thoughts about stories they haven't seen changes their perception and experience. Spoilers aren't just plot points. Feelings and tendencies and such things also affect the experience. Let a person see things for themselves untainted by anything. Please refrain from an endeavour like this in the future.
@Nikioko4 жыл бұрын
Pseudonymous Being Short answer: because I don‘t. I spoil nothing that isn‘t from season one. I say nothing that the creators themselves didn‘t say in their interviews about season 1: if you write a story about time travel, you automatically get the question of determinism or free will. And when you have seen season one, you know, which approach they chose. So please refrain from such ridiculous accusations in future.
@pseudonymousbeing9874 жыл бұрын
@@Nikioko Really trying my best to refrain from cursing here. And spoilers still apply: What do the words "always follows" and "there's one exception" mean other than blatant explanations of how the show as a whole plays out? It's completely unnecessary information. When did the creators confirm there was one exception or that things were always happening in some way? Your comment in simple terms said: the entire show will be about absolute unbreaking determinism for 3 seasons and there will be one exception to that. That is information that is in no way whatsoever outright set in stone by season 1 nor by the creators. And how do you justify the final part about the questions the seasons answer? (btw I don't agree with that breakdown anyway)

Why do you think it’s in limelight as it was first aired in 2017?
@CortexVideos4 жыл бұрын
Do you mean in the limelight now? What I was saying was that it has slowly built it's audience over time and I still think it deserves more attention today. It did get an audience but it wasn't as large as some as the other shows out there during S1, that's what I was getting at.

I think it's because it's so well written, it fits any time. I didn't start watching it until recently. A friend recommended it. So glad she did!! There wasn't a whole lot of push from Netflix. Not like Umbrella Academy, etc. These writers have a deal with Netflix. Next show is 1899. Probably releasing late next year.

Just wait till you keep going!! Going to get better❤❤ I was sucked in from the beginning. The casting is amazing. The mystery of the disappearing children makes it on a more human level, plus showing what has happened to the families. There's a line about things in the future affecting the past...I'm of the impression that Noah and Suc Mundus, but Noah especially believes God controls time, but there are ways he can alter it. When you find out what's happening with the time travel, you'll be impressed. I did watch DEVS and Westworld and this show is leaps and bounds above them. There is one character I think could be using her free will, but I go back and forth on it. I didn't enjoy watching it with the English dubbing. Enjoyed listening to German. I've begged my daughter to watch with me. My friends and co hosts on channel have seen it. I might do vids and discussions. There's SO MUCH!!-

Mmmmm, I saw all seasons and in the end, despite having excellent technical side and cast, I was dissatisfied and disappointed. The creators did all the best to make a complex and challenging narative, and that is all. For me is too much praised and given too much compliments.
